Yeah, it's OK. Hardly amazing though.
You can get a 1.5TB Samsung drive for $89 from MSY and get an enclosure for $17…
Obviously you'd prefer the 1.5TB WD Essentials. Just saying "amazing" is going a bit far.
+1
No, I think it's an excellent bargain.
The glossy black finish is a definite turn off for me.
$145 for a Samsung 2Tb Story Edition from PC DIY is better value
Amazing deal? I think not.
The only reason I'mn not negging this is because I can't find a cheaper price for this particular HDD. However, the samsung 1.5TB available for $20 cheaper or 2TB for $16 more are much better deals. They are just as reliable and both are using USB2 so there really is no reason to spend the extra for this.
EDIT: a friend of mine has this drive and he says it takes a long time to boot up.
bikram, welcome to ozb and thanks, good deal for those looking for a WD essentials in particular.

It never ceases to amuse me that some folks get their panties in such a bunch over that one fairly innocuous comment! :o
Seriously guys, if this is the biggest thing you have to get in a tizz over, I'll mail you a couple of spoonfuls of cement so you can HTFU! :p
But where are we meant to price match it?
MSY? No, forget that…Fluidtek! :p
It's OK, not amazing. I'm probably spoiled by pricengine's HDD deals.
deal might be "amazing", but your spelling sure isn't!
spelling rectified mate. its just silly keyboard at work and bit of excitement to post first post.
Anybody who starts their sentence without a capital letter shouldn't be commenting on others spelling.
Since nobody has mentioned it yet, I would like to note that Western Digital drives come with some definite down-sides which may not matter to you but have driven me away from the brand altogether.
I have a 2 TB Western Digital drive similar to this one, and I find that it is extremely loud, and constantly overheating: there are many occasions, during normal-load use, on which the drive simply ceases to respond, freezing my operating system (both Mac and Windows) until it is forcibly unplugged. I have two friends with the same model of drive, and one of these is having the same problems with his own drive.
Further, every Western Digital drive nowadays comes with an irritating WD rootkit, which constantly spawns a fake "Western Digital apps" CD on your desktop which just will not go away, and forces you to install their annoying, very-hard-to-uninstall driver package in order to use your drive's features - which then continues to run in the background on your machine. Not only did I not ask for this, but I - for one - don't need another potential security hole in my machine. Not to mention it wastes space, slows down the computer and snoops on what you're doing, constantly indexing and categorising all of the files on your machine.
Even if you think this is a good deal, I would encourage you to steer clear.
Guys they are out of stock for the drive. i went to one of the store they have told me to do a customer order otherwise forget it.
Customer order takes upto 10 days that sucks.
The 1tb one is selling on there site for 159.
THats wired.
Must be some mistake.
Their mistake is our bargain, i guess.
