  • I've sort of held off these things but now knowing they have ceased production I have some mad FOMO. Are they worth the hunge?

    • Not really. The Wii U also has the same games on the estore that you can play on your tv. It's more for the nostalgia of playing with controller.
I will pick up the SNES version when that gets released in the future though.

      • Wii/Wii U's emulation is actually worse than the NES Classic.

    • +1

I can't really see how it is. It's just software emulation, and only has 30 games. You can get the same experience a dozen other ways for the same price or cheaper. It's just nostalgia of it looking like a NES from what I can see. You can even get a little NES mini case for your raspberry pi along with a NES controller and there you go, same thing but with as many games as you want.

      • +1

It's the controller that makes it.

    • +6

The entire hype around these things seems to be they continually go out of stock, so people buy them as soon as they are available. Every game on the console is available on numerous superior platforms.

      NOTHX!

    • no.
anything else can do emulation better and alot cheaper.

  • +5

Bullshit it's last chance to get one

    • +3

      https://www.polygon.com/2017/4/13/15293030/nes-classic-editi…

It's been officially discontinued… previously they were still making them (albeit slowly releasing), now they've confirmed they are no longer making them.

Rumours there will be a SNES Classic this year though.

      • +1

Keep in mind we talking about a game system that was released in the 80s
And giving they stop making them (again), you can still get them at retail shops.

        • +1

heh, it's the last chance to get a rehash of something that had it's real last chance decades ago.

If people just want one for the nostalgia of the games, there are plenty of chances left, whether it be RPi or a NES Clone/FamiClone of the original.

Would've thought OzBargainers wouldn't be so susceptible to the classic tricks of deliberately "limited releases" and stuff.

        • @dufflover: fanboys go crazy when they see one. That's why deals like this are an exception on OB. Otherwise your post would get removed according to site rules..

      • Since they sell so well, you'd think they'd make millions of them

        • +2

          dont worry, "they'll be back"

        • +2

There needs to be a company that re-makes old tech for nostalgic purposes, they'd make a killing!

        • +2

Actually, econ101 would say otherwise even though your point seems intuitive. When firms make a shit tonne, a bunch of it sits around in inventory and doesn't sell for ages, whatever, price will go down to move units. They can restrict supply such that the decrease in quantity is more than balanced by the maintained price above what would otherwise clear the market. Its the oldest monopoly tactic in the book.

Theres other ways of looking at it in industrial economics which predict the same outcome, but I have a headache and dont wanna look at my old notes.

        • @leTintin: isn't that what places like Typo are all about? lol

      • It could just be spin though. What if they simply discontinued production after realising they've already made more than they could sell? Solution: create artificial scarcity!

      • From what I can tell they continue to come in and out of stock though. On Whirlpool someone mentioned around mid day yesterday EB had stock and then it went back to sold out a few hours later. Now the sames happened today. We could have this happen again tomorrow.

I'm sure soon enough we'll hit that last chance, but it may not be today.

      • Confirmed there's no snes

  • +5

So this is the 10th or so last time to get one?

  • +1

still don't accept gift cards…. stupid

    • +2

I'm sure you could take it in store after purchase, have it refunded and then rebuy with the gift card. Staff have told me they'd do a similar thing in the past.

      • Interesting! I'll run it past them

  • +24

    John Farnham of Games!

  • +2

thats the 6th last chance to get one…

I will get it this time..lol!

(actually I will save the 100 to get the switch)

  • why the last chance is never ending

  • How much for a second controller?

    • Where can we get a second controller?

      • ^^this, hopefully second legitimate controllers exist?

        • They do, but stocks probably harder to find than the console itself. They were $20. Got one when the console first launched.

There's plenty of third party options, and you can use certain Wii controllers too. Some of the third party ones are wireless too and might be worth paying for (check the 8bitdo model)

    • no extra controllers as far as i can see.

    • Oh didn't even notice it only came with one controller. This changes things…

      • +3

you need to buy another NES to get 2nd controller. That's why they're selling like hot cakes and everyone has 2

        • Not sure if that's a joke but they did ship controllers seperatly for $20. There's some third party options (some wireless) and certain Wii controllers work too.

        • @Smigit: dont be ridiculous, there's no wireless controller in the 80s, not even wii….

  • I got one thanks. Tried to do it on my phone but got stuck in a loop about address.. so had to run to a PC
I bought one previously but gave it away thinking id get the next batch. Cheers

  • All gone.

  • +1

    OUT OF STOCK

Just got that while trying to pay.

  • We do not have Nintendo Classic Mini: NES in stock, please select a store to PickUp from or remove the item from your cart.

  • was at paypal and then got sold out message :(

  • Gone!

  • Wow, I got my order in at 10:29am and it expired less than 2 mins later. :D

    • I stupidly tried a promo code and got sold out :(

      • +36

That promo code saved you $99.95

  • daamm

  • +2

First time Paypal asked me to confirm it's me by calling my home phone not my mobile… at 9 am… nooo missed out

  • Jesus that was quick, I was on the page already and was available. Then searching for a wireless controller, back to purchase and sold out!!

  • +1

Don't give up stores are getting a couple too i just picked one up from the store

Maybe get on the blower quickly to your closest EB

Staff didn't even know till i spoke to them.

    • tried non in stock

  • +1

So how many are scalping their Nes Mini?
    Just wondering.

    • -5

This thing will hit the 500$ mark in no time. Some sellers already puts the price for controller at $100 and the console between $400-500.

      • +8

This thing will hit the 500$ mark in no time.

        Citation needed

      • +1

        could go the other way.
when mini SNES is released, if it can be hacked to play more games along with SNES, this would be the much better system!

    • NOPE , not sure ill ever use it though LOL

    • Here's one that sold for $300 4 days ago: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Nintendo-Mini-Classic-Nes-Brand-New-/…

  • price will drop there are a lot going on ebay

  • all i can say is ask some of them properly

they weren't even aware they had appeared online.

so they did some digging and found 2 at my local

  • Almost 1,000 clicks in 40 minutes. I wonder how many were in stock?

    • people really want it

      • From a business point of view, why Nintendo ceased production of these makes no sense.

        • It's good it's a crap toy

      • Don't you mean just one person who wants to broden them?

  • +1

guy i spoke to said the most that the better stores "not sure what he means by better" were promised were 2 maybe the ones with most turnover or CBD etc.

  • dammit. i missed out :(

  • oh man that was fast, glad i got the cotd one :)

  • tease

  • +2

    Missed out again.
Damn I shouldn't have worked at work.
Should have just kept watching Ozbargain.

    • Since you worked and earned money, you should think of paying a bit more and buying one on ebay or gumtree. I am strongly considering it

      • +2

        ^ Found the scalper

        • lol I wish . Couldn't even buy one after much effort.

      • it is sad for those who don't work and don't check ozbargain

      • I'll have to disagree on that.
It's the scalpers who made everyone else miss out.
I only want one to collect and play with occasionally.

      • /facepalm

@grizz_li: have a look at making a retropi (nice little hobby to have) or modding a ps3/x360 instead of this limited gimmick crap.

  • +2

oh no, I missed out /S

    • haha

  • Disappointed it sold out and no one made a "This is RRP" comment.

  • +1

in before the "in before the 'this is RRP' comment" comment… oh damn, too late

  • I purchased one of these in the past just because everyone else was, haven't touched it yet. Still in the box! I guess I should sell it.

    • Would you like to rent it to a brother :P

      • Haha I will probably sell, not rent

  • +1

I was lucky I got one quick enough. Colleague tried a minute later and they were gone.

  • Does anyone have one of the wireless controllers? Are they good?

I got the NES in the last sale, but haven't even opened the box yet :) I need another controller for it, and probably extension cords because apparently the controller cords are super short.

  • RETROPI.
    WAKE UP PEOPLE.

    • I have one of these as well. But I like the idea of an actual NES being my emulation device.

  • -1

Have Retropi and the Mini NES. I prefer the mini nes, have hakchi'd it for a few more games and some of my own hame hacks I did for giggles like level edits and phisics and sprite hacks. The unit looks great, emulation is top notch and latency is very good.

  • +2

great more opportunities for (profanity) to resell this for $200+ .. pffft

  • I have collected several since they first launched, one is the main one I use (and I used it as recently as last night, keen for Punch Out action!) while another is a back up, and another is a back up of the back up (but also used as a display nic-nac on a shelf :). Despite there being other avenues to play the same classic games, I still jumped at the chance…. it's owning a slice of history. I also purchased a powerwave NES classic controller (don't necessarily need another one as I have a few!) so I can use that/wear it out as my main controller, maintain the integrity of the original.

    • +1

Why not just buy an original NES and play that?

      • ikr -_-

  • Can we lobby Nintendo?
