Can't say that "mobile phones have killed watches". People's choices have changed acknowledgeing mechanical craftsmanship is more valuable than pure technology. I.e. Quartz movements.

this isn't a radio watch, its GPS so should work everywhere?
Yes. GPS will work everywhere (not inside building though).
The one that require atomic time is "Radio controlled" one.
Though if you are obsessive for accuracy for radio controlled watch, in Australia you can still use JJY Simulator websites (produce audio signal that mimic the atomic radio clock signal in Japan).
