Hi all, I saw this come up on my Google Ads and thought of the extra kit via redemption. So I guess 2 kits for $78 is not bad in my books. Here is the link for an extra kit via redemption.

Can save 5% by purchasing from their ebay store using the C5OZ or whatever the hell it is

    • BE AWARE: I bought via ebay store and now it fails the serial number validation test on the D-Link product registration page. Their blurb says does not include purchases made via ebay or from a gray importer. :(

      • Are you sure?

I did the same (purchased this from TGG eBay store) and I had no trouble submitting my claim. It's only been a few days so I haven't received my bonus kit yet though.

I think it would be worth contacting either TGG or D-Link.

Also, the blurb about ebay purchases being ineligible says "unless the store is a Verified D-Link Partner"

        • Thanks for that. Yes, I do intend ringing the D-Link number today.

  • whats the MKR voucher for ? how do i get it ? i never saw that or i missed it :(

  • Apparently this unit performs worse than the av200 standard http://www.trustedreviews.com/best-powerline-adapters_round-…

    • I wish I know how to test this. I am using a pair of Belkin AV200 at the moment. I needed a few more around the house and forking out for more AV200 adapters seems a bit of a waste. I just replaced them with the AV500 from this deal and will add more when the redemption comes through. Seems a bit more responsive, but could be placebo effect, cannot scientifically determine this for sure.

The downside is that the network port of these adapters are at the top and not much smaller than my AV200. But they do have passthrough.

  • Hypothetically eg as in asking for a friend….. could you use these to share a network between 2 seperate houses each with thier own independent power supply (eg sharing with a neighbour)?

The use case is we both have outside power points but getting a cable through the wall is tricky so if we each have one externally and internally could we use that to network our houses. I know there is no (240v) power transmitted over the ethernet cable once these things are plugged in. It sounds plausable to me but thought I would ask the internets for suggestions/advise on this.

    • Hmm… you may have to ask an electrician. I would think that sounds too complicated for what you are trying to achieve. The advantage of these adapters is that you will not need to run wires in the house since running wires inside an existing house is difficult.

If you are trying to just get the internet to the neighbouring house, why not just run a really long outdoor Ethernet cable? That would ensure you get the full network speed as I believe the signal degrades the longer the electrical wires are with these adapters. If running wires through the walls is tricky, maybe look at housing a wifi router outside in a pvc box since you already have outside power points.

      • it's mainly an issue due to where and how we woudl need to penetrate the walls or "my friend" would (hypothetically) definately go with a cable direct between the properties.

I was thinking that as a single set in a house its out and in eg config could be router -> dlink -> power cable -> dlink -> TV
what Im' proposing is router -> dlink -> power cable -> dlink (outside house1) -> ethernet cable -> dlink (outside house2) -> power cable -> dlink in house 2 -> switch

granded it a few more hops….

Wifi is what I'm toying with at the moment but I thought this may be faster, hadn't considered putting the wifi outside, not a bad suggestion!.

I think it would be more useful to get a very good Tri-band AC router and repeater. If your neighbor sets up the triband repeater strategically to your router, it should perform better than Powerline adapters.

  • Where can I get a $20 MKR voucher?
