The coupon honour depends on the checkout operator. I went to store at Gepps Cross in Adelaide today to avail the discount and I was told to go away as I cannot use the coupon from Oz bargain. They insist that I show them email received from SPOTLIGHT in order to receive the discount.
Eventually, I have to drive to another store to be served.

  • Refused at Melrose Park, SA store. Staff even said they will not accept the "ozbargain" voucher. This was with image on phone. Anyone have better luck with it printed out? Or does it have to be the actual email?

  • +3

For those of you having trouble with using the 'ozbargain voucher', here is the voucher emailed out by Spotlight to VIP members

It even says to 'present this coupon at your local Spotlight store'. I would still recommend printing it if you can, but if you cant, just argue that at the counter.
    Hope this helps!

  • Foyya, thanks for all the info you've provided so far. I used it successfully last week, but today was told that I could not use it a second time. Can you confirm whether it is single or multiple use?

    • +1

The terms on the voucher are a little contradictory. It says it is 'single use only', but then it says it can be used once 'per customer, per day, per transaction', implying that you can use a coupon once every day. You should have in no way been denied the use of the voucher because you have used it before, a week ago. Putting aside the total illogical act of refusing to allow a customer a valid sale, they went against the terms of the voucher. It is not like the barcodes of the voucher are unique (they're not, they're generic) so there is no way staff can say that this voucher has already been used. There is no tracking of the voucher through the VIP card so staff cannot identify that you have already used one even in the same day!

So, to answer your question, it is multiple use.

At risk of repeating myself, this voucher is a boon for Spotlight. It draws customers to buy more than they usually might to reach the $100, as well as promotes more foot traffic and goodwill (hopefully!). Spotlight should, in theory, love for you to use this voucher every day that it runs and even for you to print it off for your friends to use as well! They will even release the voucher in national newspapers, if they haven't already, before the sale ends.
Unfortunately, the spirit of this is sometimes lost in staff members who work here day in and out, due to internal inconsistencies of management and conflicting visions and values from the top. So, if you get denied the use of this voucher, fight it. Read out the voucher term of 'once per day', question the logic of denying a customer a valid sale, or ask for a manager. You shouldn't have to do this, but unfortunately that's the way it is at the moment.

      • Thanks, I will try again. Hopefully someone different and I'll just say no if they ask this time. If it helps your reporting up, the voucher is the difference between buying what I need from spotlight Vs elsewhere.

  • Any idea why it's not working for me?

    Error message:
Failed to apply promotion code to cart. Kindly fulfil the requirement and re-enter the code to redeem.

    • Which code are you using? If the original code doesn't work, try the code in the post above with the email voucher. Make sure you are signed in as a VIP. Make sure you have spent $100 or more, it won't work if you have $99.99. Make sure you don't have any items in your cart that are excluded, e.g. Home appliances.
Hope this helps. Let me know.

      • Thanks. It worked but the item I want is out of stock at the spotlight stores near me.

Yesterday Customer Care told me a shop (>30km from me) has at least 7 units. Today I called the shop directly to double check to make sure there's stock before I drive all the way there. They had to put me on hold and physically check at the shelves, and they told me they couldn't find any. I asked if they can check from their system, they said no coz it's not accurate. The system might say they have stock but they actually don't have it.

Sigh…it looks like I can either drive all the way there to check for myself or buy online and pay $19.90 for shipping :(

It sounds a bit backward that the store member can't check stock from their system?

Also, I tried calling Fountain Gate (vic) directly and it was diverted to Customer Care. Apparently their phone wasn't working since last week…

        • Staff can do a stock overview but it is often the case that our stock levels are incorrect. This is why I always caution customers, if they are told by another store or by the website that a particular store has stock, to call the store first before going there. It shouldn't be this way but due to a various number of problems (stocktake mismanagement, inaccurate invoicing, mislabelling of products, etc), unfortunately in this case, the staff member was being honest.
However, your local store can take an order for you and get the item sent from another store or from the supplier to that local store. This is what I would recommend doing to avoid lengthy driving and shipping costs. It may take a bit longer for you to receive it but it is of no cost to you - Spotlight pays the postage and you pay for the item only when your local store has received it.
          Hope this helps. Good luck!

        • @foyya:

Thanks for the advice! My item is a rug. I will try my luck with my local store. (But I'm also prepared they might refuse if I mention I would like to use this $40 off promo code)

        • @xwon123: when they take the order they should honour any current sales. This includes the $40 off voucher. When they write out the order form, make sure they write the price with discounts and even ask them to staple your printed out voucher to the order.

        • @foyya:

Thanks very much for your help! :)

I have just placed an order. They said it will take 2-3 weeks and I'm happy to wait. They wrote a note on the order form to say I have a $40 off coupon. Hopefully I will get my rug!

P/S: there's no order number or reference number on the order form. I never bought anything from Spotlight before. Honestly I think Spotlight has a lot of improvements to do

        • @xwon123: no problem. I hope it works out for you!
And yes, Spotlight definitely needs to be brought into the 21st century. It's slowly catching up.

  • Sorry to hijack the thread.. so is it 25% off on sale prices?

    • Hi, I'm not sure I understand your question. This voucher gives you $40 off your total of $100 or more. This includes items that are on sale. So if the item/s you are buying is/are on sale, you would get that discount and then a further $40 off the total transaction. Hope this answers your question!?

      • Oops.. this was in response to the Sheridan outlet sale.

  • OP, may I know why I can't use the code? Tried to buy a kettle and a blender, and a polyester thread just to make it over 100. :(
error: Failed to apply promotion code to cart. Kindly fulfil the requirement and re-enter the code to redeem.

    • Doesn't work for home electrical appliances… as per the T&C's

      • Ah I see. I tried the same items a week ago and it worked. should have bought it then…

  • Expired :(
Plan to go to the store today but too bad……

    • +2

The voucher is still valid until end of day today

      • +2

ops may be i did something wrong my side here.
Spotlight should be proud of having a good staff liked you, keep the good job on mate!

      • its not working online anymore

        • +1

Sigh. It's almost as if Spotlight doesn't want your money!
          Try calling customer care: 1300 305 405
And please feel free to constructively vent your frustrations here
I'm sorry there's not more I can do!

        • @foyya:
just called 1300 305 405, nice service there.
the guy said lots of people were calling today

just give ur vip number and voucher code on the phone, then send a screenshot of checkout error to their email.
          they will sort it out.

        • @wodaidai:

well he told me to send a screen shot of the voucher which i did and they will try and honor the promo after it expires

        • +1

@easternculture: Hmm, I don't like this 'try' business. Seeing as the voucher is still valid today, they should definitely honour it. Don't let them tell you otherwise! The first guy seemed to have his wits about him so i'm sure they'll figure it out in the end. Or just fix the website…

  • Tried to use it last night, didn't work, got an error message. Sigh. Disappointing.

  • Oh crap, forgot about this…
