its ridiculous that this card is not even clearly better than 1060 and it has been released a few weeks ago.

yep. not worth it by any measure.

nice table of results here, which is nice to see the 3GB vs 6GB 1060 and also 970 all in one table:

What? What are you both on about?

For a potentially cheaper card (once it drops below the initial RRP) it outperforms the 1060 6GB in more than half of these games! Faster, for cheaper?

Unless you're going for NNs and need CUDA (as OpenCL doesn't have good libraries yet), the 580 is just a better card! Also has an extra 2GB of VRAM, if you're running massive textures or something =P

There is the power argument, but personally I don't find it overly significant for a GPU - personal preference argument here I guess.

Also, I'd take this over the NVidia for FreeSync, which is cheaper than GSync.

I think you found the green guys!

It's a little better than rx 480, so why are you being a fanboy?

        • What do you mean "potentially cheaper"? Either it is or it isn't, and since the price hasn't dropped then no it's not cheaper at all. So you have a more expensive card being either on par or only slightly above the 1060 6GB. I say again - not worth it.

          This isn't OzPotentialBargainMaybeNextYear lol

On Amazon you're looking at usd$235+delivery, or au$350+delivery on static ice for the 1060 6gb.

For those above that want it spelled out. The 1060 is slower and more expensive. In today's dollars. The 1060 - not worth it.

Also add in the cost of a gsync monitor if you're that way inclined.

Also, so not a fanboy. I own a 970. The straight up numbers show the 580 is better value than the 1060. Fanboyism would be defending a slower, more expensive product…oh wait, that's awkward.

  • Can someone explain to me how warranty is with something like this from Amazon? Or if you are able to get extended warranty that covers international orders? The price difference is a lot compared to australian sellers, but i'm not sure if its worth the saving if the card were to fail

      • Damn, thanks. Do you think the australian prices will drop anytime soon? Only waiting on the GPU for my pc build but the 580 prices are a rip-off compared to the US at the moment.

Not much in terms of long term. Short term you can get it replaced within 30 days without any questions from Amazon direct (they refund postage etc)

  • Performance very similar to RX480…

      Haha you can even flash a 580 BIOS onto a 480 and have a pseudo-580 =P
