Don't these heat up a fair bit ?

    • Many reviews say they do. Not sure how bad it is though.

Most of the FE cards have been known to get hotter than their non-reference counterparts but they will still operate within safe temps. They still have situational use for either:
      1. Air-cooled SLI in a mid tower (or smaller) because they exhaust air out the back.
      2. Water-cooled SLI because they may be easier (and cheaper?) to buy water blocks for
      2. Small builds like mATX/M-ITX where you want the air to exhaust out the back.

Otherwise they'll be fine for any build really. That said, the non-reference ones don't cost much more, have better cooling and are often overclocked so are generally preferred.

      • Exactly, just fitted one of these to my Node 202 case replacing a 980ti.

If I had a tower I would go for an quieter aftermarket model that dumps the heat into the case, but for a smaller case it is perfect.

Out of box without changing any power or temp settings it sits at 80 deg C, at 100% power, much better cooling that the 980ti it replaced … running at approx 1770MHz (ie it overclocks itself to max allowed power in)

        • Exactly, I will need a founders when my Sentry ITX case arrives.

          A fellow sentry backer!
          You get white or black?

        • @Chirpy: Awaiting my Sentry in glorious white my friend, you?

        • @KLoNe:

I'm also getting crisp, clean white.

          Should look great

    • Good find. I personally prefer PC Case Gear, MSY or Mwave since they have stores here in Australia and pretty good warranty.

What's Newegg like in terms of faulty items/Returns?

      • agree local always better, no idea but been a fair few newegg posts in the past so must be ok

  • Good price… however the reference turbo cooling is always a pain and will be relatively noisy.

Picked up one of these from PLE at this price a few weeks ago. Glad I did great card .. right up until it partially died 12 days in (constant noise artifacts on the screen). Took it back on the Saturday, they tested it and got the same results and then replaced it as DOA (after making a song and dance how it was outside the DOA period). For those wanting to save a few bucks buy shipping it in think hard about how long you can go without your card for.

  • Grab one with better cooling. Strix was available for 1150 during the ebay tech sales and scored very well.

  • Damn, looking for a discounted EVGA 1080 GTX FE, not Ti :/

  • Hmm still have 2 months until birthday…. to buy now at $999 or wait for potential price drops!

Electronics, generally speaking, drop in value over time, so wait.

  • $750 and I'm in. Give it 10 months.
