      R7000 ≠ D7000. 😉

Ahh my mistake :), too quick, coincidentally i am looking for that router and they both look the same!

      R7000 is router only model!
D7000 IS Modem + Router as mentioned in details :)

last week MSY sold D-Link DIR-885l for $199. ac3150 MU-MIMO, seems to be a better offer.

Don't buy this if you value your sanity. Netgear firmware support is a joke.

Source: dropped mine in the bin and became a happier person.

I own an R7000 and I have no idea what you mean … although I would recommend buying the Asus equivalent routers just due to Netgear's woeful security record recently.

      • I'm talking about the D7000 so it's not surprising that you have no idea.

Which is the same device with a modem …

        • +2

@Diji1: As much as you are the same as a person who knows what they are talking about.

The modems and modem/routers have completely different firmware. Netgear modem/routers have terrible firmware. Major functions are broken for months at a time, new firmwares fix one thing and break three others, zero testing is done prior to releases, support for older models such as the D7000 get abandoned and then the exact same bugs are introduced to new models. I could go on.

Don't be ignorant and do some research before trying to start random flames for no reason. Netgear's support forums are a good place to start.

        • @bobjane: Agree 100% with bobjane. This is a terrible modem/router at best. Firmware is a joke and so is support. I persisted for 4 weeks before ditching in bin (i paid $300). Regular drop outs. Wireless devices disconnected frequently and a web interface that continued to say "no internet" during the times that the stupid thing was actually connected and working fine. Threw my old Tplink W8980 back into service and havent looked back.

      • R7000 and D7000 are worlds apart.

Netgear do a half decent job on maintaining their dedicated router line, but their modem+router combos have always suffered.

I only bought this from ebay 2 days ago. So annoyed haha

Cancel, refuse delivery, cry .. etc..

  • Is it better to get this, or the RT-AC68U with a standalone modem? My Archer D9 is shitting itself, and I'm tempted by Merlin on the RT-AC68U… this D7000 is pretty much the same price as the RT-AC68U with the 20% off ebay code lol

    • +1

      Get the RT-AC68U.

      • Thanks!

        • Definitely 100% anything but the D7000! A brick with an ethernet cable jammed into it would perform better.

R7000 or D7000 for Optus Cable?

      • Which for Telstra cable, if any?

        • +2

I used to be on a Netgear WNDR3700v2 with my 100mbps Telstra service. You really need to check that the devices can do 100mbps. This device probably can. But the best solution I have found is to put the Telstra modem in bridge only mode, get a decent router and access point. I am currently using a Ubiquiti Edgemax with a Unifi AC-AP-Pro and haven't looked back. Stability issues gone. Rock solid wifi, no matter how hard I push my connection. Highly recommend. Don't buy Netgear.

  • +2

Avoid Netgear. Get ubiquiti and retain your sanity. Netgear firmware and support suck.

    • can you suggest me whether to get an ubiquiti access point or an asus dsl AC68u? I am with TPG, huawei router(stock), have poor connection in living room and parents room. scrimshaw suggested TP- LINK archer VR600 but I am not too sure about that one's range, while I have seen tons of reviews on AC68u showing that it has amazing range.

If it were me, I would find a good ADSL modem (only modem) and then get a ubiquiti setup to NAT (Ie unifi security gateway) and wifi.
