        • +3

          Your mum has expensive taste

        • @nightelves: Yeah I know. It's only skincare she has expensive taste in though. I blame my aunty for getting her onto Chanel skincare.

Luckily I have staff discount! :D

      • +2

I'm sure she spent a lot more than a paltry $150 raising you.

  • Nice! So good!

      • +12

I saved 20% this morning by not shopping at the 20% off tech at eBay sale. Bargains everywhere!

    • +5

I shopped at DJ's online last week as it was the cheapest place for the Breville Slow cooker I wanted, the BSC560 for $119.

  • +6

    • +1

      • LOL

  • What happens when you have 2 offers saved and valid on an Amex Card? On my card there is currently a new card offer of $40 get $10 back, does it stack with this one?

    • Yes.

      • Thanks, do you know if DJ Online has split payment facilities?

        • +2

          No

        • +1

@kerfuffle: You don't know or you know they don't?

        • +3

@sween64: They don't do split payment.

        • @kerfuffle: How about using multiple gift cards for a single order online?

Edit: Yes. Up to 5 gift cards then the remaining balance on a single credit card. FAQ

Yes, you can use up to 5 cards; any combination of David Jones Gift Cards, Celebration Cards and Insurance Cards. You will have the option to split payment by using a Credit Card to pay any outstanding amount on the order. Online purchases using David Jones Gift Cards, Insurance Cards or Celebration Cards can only be made in AUD.

    • Is that targeted?

    • Does anyone have any information on the spend $40 get $10 back?
      Thanks!

      • Its a new card offer, normally get it when you sign up to a new AMEX card (but not sure if it happens 100% of the time).

  • +1

this works for gift card purchases?

    • +5

You must be new to this. Yes.

      • This works for E gift card purchases?

        • +6

          No

        • @Turd:
can i ask why egift card purchases won't work?

only difference is the checkout is via "http://shop.davidjones.com.au" (not HTTPS: as for physical card purchase)

        • @ash: Billed/charged to different provider. a 3rd party if you wanna call it that

        • @Turd:
          gotcha! thanks

        • @Turd:

I know Entertainment book or corporate reward gateway websites won't work.

But how about going through DJ directly? This seems like a new feature.

          http://shop.davidjones.com.au/djs/en/davidjones/gift-ideas/e…

        • @lilkid28: But you arent going through DJs directly.. Look carefully!

        • @Turd:

I must be blind as I can't see.. checkout page to enter CC details still on shop.davidjones.com.au

        • @lilkid28: hmm just looks different to the normal DJs cehckout. Try it and see.. lol

im not game, as I like the physical cards

  • +2

Also 6% cash back with Cash Rewards.

    • +1

Doesnt apply to gift card orders but you can use gift cards to buy items to get the 6%

      • So if you shop online you'll get 6% cash back at some stage.

  • +6

Excludes Paypal. So make sure you key in the Amex card details.

    • +1

Why would you choose to pay with Amex via PayPal? Is there a perk I'm unaware of? I've only ever used PayPal to pay with Amex when the store doesn't accept Amex directly.

      • +6

You'd do that in cases where you don't want to expose your card details to the third party site. Only PayPal knows your Amex details, this way you can be assured no one else gets your information.

The other situation would be for additional points during bill payment. Amex platinum edge gives you only half a point per dollar on certain bill payment categories, but if you channel your payment through PayPal, you usually get the full points rate.

        • BULLRUN

        • Thanks for that, didn't know about that bill payment trick! Handy stuff

        • +2

@Smol Cat: Not to mention, Paypal has buyer protection. This is in addition to the AMEX benefits (extended warranty, etc) so more double dipping on the benefits.

  • +2

I've got both this offer and the 'David Jones Welcome Offer' ($15 back on $40 spend) saved onto my card. Does anyone have any experience if these 2 credits will be triggered at the same time when spending $150?

    • Ecooo

    • +1

      yeah should get it.

      • you sure?

        • Yes

    • How do you get the welcome offer?

      • I believe you get this offer when you activate a new Amex card.

  • but what can you buy at DJ….

    • +33

There's a handy website at www.davidjones.com.au that lists the items they sell - and even allows you to purchase them! Fancy that!

      • +9

That's light years ahead of Repco's website

  • +5

Woohoo, finally an AMEX credit offer I might have a chance of using. The AMEX offers have been pretty dry this year so far.

  • +3

The best option seems to be to buy classic gift cards online. They've got a $150 denomination. You can make a transaction for each AmEx CC you have available. To avoid the $5 delivery fee add a low cost item. Eg Underwear possibly NSFW @ $2.75.

When you purchasing them item you actually want you can use up to 5 gift cards and a single credit card to pay the balance.

    • Thanks for the great info!

    • YMMV but I've managed to use 20 gift cards in a single transaction. The receipt was easily a metre long.

Kerfuffle could confirm but I don't think there's a physical limit on how many cards to be processed. I reckon it's more around if the person wants to keep swiping for 5-10 minutes and holding the queue up.

      • +1

You can use as many Gift Cards as you want in store but you can only use a maxmimum of five Gift Cards online.

        • Can you use gift cards to buy gift cards? online i mean

        • @Turd: No idea; sorry.

        • @Turd: yes, and you can also in stores.

        • @julzihead: NICEEEEEEE

        • @Turd: Why would you? To extend the expiry out by 12 months?

        • +2

@sween64: Yes that and having 1x$750 card is better than having 5x$150 cards

        • @sween64: Depends on you luck, last time they will not let me, they told me "you cannot use gift card to buy gift card".

        • +2

@Purple: If you have that problem, just go to Customer Services. They'll do it for you. You can definitely buy a Gift Card with a Gift Card in store.

        • You can go to Customer Service and ask them to combine the cards into one single card. I went to pick up an order and the lady offered to do that for me when she saw I had so many gift cards, she even extended the expiry date starting from that day too.

        • +2

@kerfuffle: Thanks for the tips, kerfuffle and hongtien20.

        • @Turd: I hope you did this today. There's a new "Receive a bonus $25 David Jones Classic Gift Card* when you purchase $250^ worth of Classic Gift Cards online" offer.

        • @julzihead: orly? 250 is a lot of gift cards lol. That's handy though! Still $5 deliver. buy a small item and win!!

Bonus cards must be used before 30th June 2017. admmm

        • @Turd: Effectively paying $220 + $1-3 item for $255 worth of gift cards. Percentage wise, just the $150 Amex cashback offer is better. Can get 10% off egift cards anytime through various portals.

        • @lilkid28: it's $275 or 20% off.

        • @wxyz234: You're right, but expiry 30 June 2017 on the bonus $25 is very restrictive unless have need for purchase soon

        • @Turd: So I have received a few $150 gift cards from this deal and I still have a few amexs left to spend. This is what I'm doing now; buy a $250gc + a $50gc = $300 (with a bonus $25gc) + some socks from bonds (40% off) for free shipping, then pay with one of the $150gc I received earlier + $150 from another amex. Hence I receive $325 worth of gift cards by spending $260. This is a bit of work but great if you've got something expensive planned to buy from David Jones. I am planning to spend the $25 gift cards before 30th June. But I can always go in store and combine them for a new gift card with 2 years expiry.

        • @julzihead: 20% off not bad!

    • Do you know of any cheaper or similar priced item?

      • +1

I found it by selecting either all items or all sale items and sorting by lowest price. The items with no price and a $0 price are sold out.

  • +1

People still shop at DJ these days? to me, it's a dinosaur waiting for extinction..

    • They have pretty good deals imo, even for people trying to save money to buy Sydney properties.

The fact that no one shops there makes their discounts and offers much better!!

    • +2

They have their purpose. The only example I could think of is buying Miele appliances when no one other than Miele's own outlet would offer any discount.

      • +1

Miele not for ozB like me…I'm more GVA, LG, Samsung & Hisense lol

    • Their staff are generally more relaxed when it comes to price matching. I would normally use PM and these Amex deals to maximise savings.

      • +1

Unlike Myer who will try and knock back any and every price match request with arbitrary, made up on the spot excuse and these guys will genuinely try and do something. Even if they can't match it, getting close (~about the cost of freight from Peter's, for example) I'll still go ahead with them.

        • I would agree from my last experience where they refused to price match their own website. Got DJs to price match in the end….

  • Thanks - offer saved on 8x AMEX's

  • +1

The only issue is david jones stores make Harvey normans look honest.

  • -4

Does DJ's sell Coles / Woolworths giftcards?

    • This is a joke right?
