They are giving me 25% off on both gas and electricity for paying on time after trying to leave them for origin which after calculations, was cheaper. Also gave me 20,000 flybuy pts when I agreed to stay and will give me another 20,000 in around 4 months time now (was 6 months).
Always signup with another provider and when your provider gets the notification that you are trying to leave, they will fight to keep your business.

you can't get 40% in NSW, or at least I haven't heard anyone getting even close to 30%.

That's what I did when I took up the 25% off with AGL last year… Origin retentions called me and offered me 40% off for 12 months.
Glad you looked at the calculations. % off are inflated so naive folk sign up without understanding the rates vary between offerings and that a hihger percentage off deal isn't always better/cheaper.

Can you please post a pic showing the 25% discount? I just had a call from them because I was leaving offering me 20% off both gas and electricity and that's the best they can do. They gave me 2500 flybuys too. Decided to stay because still cheaper than 32% discount with another but will push for 25% if I can show proof.
