  • Quality on the Power banks are really bad. My wife went through 3 similar ones within 6 months and all failed to charge after some time. Not worth the 5 bucks.

So every time I buy one I have to go back to Aldi 2 months later and get a replacement? That's the definition of stupid. Spend the extra money on something worthwhile.

        • not if you give them away as gifts - and don't you already go to aldi more than every 2mths? :)

@bchliu stated his wife went through 3 similar ones - ie. not the same as these

where else - and at what price - can similar sized ones of better quality be bought?

@tonester: So give away terrible gifts that are going to break in 2 months? No thanks.

          As for better ones: http://www.banggood.com/BlitzWolf-BW-P2-3350mAh-Mini-Portabl…

        • @tonester: I've found things showing 1A, 1.5A and 2A so I'm not too sure. Either way, the Aldi one only does 1A so even with the lowest stated voltage it's comparable.

        • @potplanty: except the aldi one is less than half the price with a longer warranty :)

        • @tonester: Also less capacity and I doubt nearly as much protection. Plus I know that the Blitzwolf ones use Panasonic 18650 batteries whereas the Aldi ones most likely use an unbranded 18650 (if not a few AAAs in series).

        • @tonester: I had bought similar ones from DSE before for about the same price. Underneath the branding, it is all made by the same OEM, with distributors then slapping a badge on it. That's how the industry works - it all comes from the same factory. I did take it back to them twice since it was under warranty. The guys chucked it to one side without even asking a question and plucked another from the shelf and gave it to me there and then. They were treated almost as rubbish by the retailers and hence why they are literally worth 5 bucks or less. In fact, I've been to a few ICT trade shows where vendors gave this out for free since it literally cost them no more than 2 or 3 bucks to get in.

You can go spend the 5 bucks and keep going back for the next 2 years. Unless your time is cheap to wait around a refund every trip, then the value of this is not really 5 bucks as such.

        • @bchliu:

+1 re freebies being cheap :)

        • @bchliu: Also petrol, car maintenance, time. That all adds up to far more than spending the extra $10 at the time of original purchase

Also, yes they probably all are the same cheap shit made by the same company but I guarantee you they're not Panasonic 18650s. Those batteries are expensive compared to some generic "Ultrafire" branded 18650s.

        • @tonester: Maybe the 10000mAh do but I doubt this one does. Either way my point stands in regards to Blitzwolf using the best 18650s on the market.

    • yes, i agree!
