It's not very fast unfortunately. Its random writes in particular are poor.

    • +3

I should clarify, I was referring to the BAR USB drive, not the EVO Plus MicroSD.

      • That was my fault, I changed the links around after posting.

  • sorry to be "that guy:", but I bought 3 x surge-protected (inc USB) powerboards from Aldi this arvo. $25 each (but I got stung buying some new gardening gloves as well.

    • +4

I must be missing something. What's your point? What makes you "that guy"?

I just wanted to point out that a very similar specced item was available for about 39% less than the item as mentioned in this post. I needed three of these so by visiting Aldi (after being informed by another OzBargain post) I saved $48 (3 x $16) presuming they work equally good.

        • +4

Don't feel guilty for shopping at Aldi. By going through their checkout, you've paid the price.

shmahoo belkin provides lifetime guarantee on the unit and insurance
you should compare the surge specs also before you rejoice

      • appreciate that, thelastnoob

I think the surge protection appears to be identical. And from what I've previously read (I'm happy to be corrected), doesn't the surge protection of all of these types of units decrease with time?

  • Good price on the 128gb. Does anyone know what the deal with the sandisk 200gb microsd cards are? Seen most at $120 price mark but lately some at $70 price. Legit?

    • +1

For the Ultra? Whereabouts are you seeing the $70 ones? Sounds way too cheap.

The best I can see on eBay from any reputable seller is $109 shipped Shopping Square

  • Cool thanks, will be picking up micro sd card.

Also can comment on the surgeboard, I picked one up last month, really good quality, the USB ports pull a decent 2.4a.

Title is a bit misleading though, only the surgeboard is from shoppingexpress, the USB and SD card are from shallothead if it matters to anyone.

    • +1

Nice feedback about the power board thanks.

Shallothead are owned/run by Shopping Express.

      • Oh okay no worries, thanks for letting me know. Still grabbed one anyway :)

Which one is better for my Surface Pro 4 as an extended storage?

    • +1

If you want to free up that USB port, then the microSD card.

      • Better set the USB port free, the USB port has more functions than the micro-SD card reader.

    • Might grab one for my Surface Pro 4 also, great idea :)

    • -1

I would not recommend this type for surface pro 4. Better look out for EVO+ 256GB with 95MB/s for read/write. THe one selling here is really slow, write speed is just 20MB/s

    • how usable is the micro SD in a Surface Pro?

I mean, in an android phone the expandable micro SD cards are not completely equivalent with onboard memory, as only certain components of apps can be transfered to the SD card (but data like TV shows, movies, songs CAN be completely stored on the SD card). Are there any restrictions like this with Surface Pro memory?

      • I use one in my SP3 (64GB Evo+ with similar performance to this), and you can obviously set the per-program install locations to the SD. Not the fastest @80MB/s and with average small/random-file performance but fine for the few lighter programs I have installed.

      • It's as useable as microSDs on a desktop.

You can install things on it, but the internal drive is faster and that's what I'd recommend. I'd use the SD for media and photos, or downloads which are not as speed critical.

  • Been looking for a 128gb card since my current 64gb is almost full. thanks for this.

  • is there anywhere cheaper than officeworks[149.00] for buying the Samsung EVO Plus 128GB MicroSD in person?

    • If you were in NSW/VIC you could probably get it from a computer store for $80 or so, somewhere like here but couldn't find anything for WA. MSY don't seem to sell the plus version at all and only sell the normal evo version in 64GB (they used to have the 128gb).

The cheapest physical store seems to be Harvey Norman $148, Officeworks price beat you'll get it for $141.55. Still triple the price :/ Ignore price beat thing, see below.

      • officeworks doesnt pricematch pcbyte?

        • Oh yeah sorry what was I thinking, they can still beat an online store with delivery and without any discount code. So they could beat say Shopping Square regular price $64.81 - 5% = $61.57

        • +1

@hamza23: well my nearest officeworks all had the 128 micro sd cards as online only so went to harvey norman and got them to price match MSY [who have physical stores] and got the sandisk for $68 which im ok with

  • Seems the price for the Samsung EVO Plus 128GB Micro SD went up to $57.95 after using code?

Checked out your other Tech Sale Deal link and so far Shopping Express has it for $54.71 using code with free delivery.

    • Thanks, yeah they increased it from $52.95 to $57.95. Luckily Shopping Square isn't far away at $54.71, the next best price so updated to that now.

  • Not so great reviews for Shopping Square. Anyone have experience buying from them?

  • If you're buying the Microsd card and need the SD adapter, be careful with the updated link. The old listing (which is now $67.95) included the adapter but this one doesn't.

    • Thanks for the heads up, I hadn't noticed the old listing included an adapter. I've updated the deal with an alternate listing for $55.89 ($1.18 more) with an adapter (the rep said they will include an adapter for anyone purchasing from that listing today onwards).

    • I have heaps of those now from all the microSDs I've been collecting, so tis ok.

  • I went into officeworks yesterday and got them to price match MSY less 5%. Paid $52 for this card. They probably shouldn't have done it - EVO+ vs EVO but try your luck!

  • Looking for a cheap 128gb MicroSD card for my Mavic and Osmo. Around $109 for a Sandisk Extreme. Anyone know anywhere cheaper for an Extreme or a card that runs fast enough for 4K videos?

  • Would this be good added storage for my little $300 dell laptop that's always on sale here on ozb? Inspiron 3300 I think..

    Cheers

  • Is it possible to use one of these 128GB SD cards as an external hard drive?

  • Before buying from the seller, how could I know if their Samsung Evo Plus are genuine or fake?

I hear that most ebay sellers sell fake micro SD cards.

  • Note a seller on eBay is selling 128GB Samsung EVO Plus SD Cards for $55.95 = $45.95 with eBay code CHOCCY (or 5% off alternatively).
    Don't forget cashrewards too.
