  • I bought a 64gb one on eBay from futu for $25.80 or so, why doesn't this one need a dust cap? Are dust caps even needed on flash drives anymore?

    • +1

I think most dust caps were lost within a week. Plus this one is designed to go on a keyring so increasing the chance to lose a removable dust cap.

  • +2

I have a 64gb and a few 32gb ones, love them to bits. Transfer speeds are legitimate USB3 too. Gonna buy quite a few of these. Thanks!

  • I have the 64GB from the last HN deal. They are slower when compared to a Transcend or SanDisk - also they do get quite hot when lotsa read/writes

  • +1

Thanks mate. Will grab a few. Currently using some 8gb usb2 ones from a previous Harvey Norman deal. Great to out photos on for clients.

    These will even be better.

  • +1

Thanks for the link, and just FYI, the Sennheiser HD451 Over-Ear Headphones for $48 is a pretty good deal too!

  • +3

Worth noting these things (probably like many other USB 3.0 drives) are slower in the lower capacities. My 16GB Samsung Bar gets 13-14MB/s Writes. My 32 Samsung Bar gets 22-24MB/s Writes. So people saying their 64GB is nice and fast, I'm sure it is fairly decent at the larger capacity, but they're certainly slower at 16GB.

    • Thanks for mentioning that I had no idea sammys 16GB were like that, Sandisk's Ultra 16Gb flash drives write consistently @ 20MB/s.

    • I've never heard of anything like this. Do you have any proof to back you up?

      • -1

It's correct, just go look at any SSD review.

Why is the earth still sooking? Had a little 2 y.o tantrum over deal credit like it matters.

Proof ozb is lightyears ahead of buckscoop

    • I don't see him sooking today…?

      • -1

Bad choice of words. Why did he sook off and never return. Why didnt he grow up.

        • Has his own reasons

Can be easily done sometimes with too much negativity.

    • Its a matter of principle.. Its really a loss for members on here, which is unfortunate. Remember that this a community site largely, although there are some paid staff. Credit is important in order for the person to keep contributing. I hate new comers who post deals getting shut down as it just stops them from trying in the future when they find something that may or may not be a deal.

      • Gotta admit I was shocked when I saw ozb is ranked 83rd most visited site in aus.

I hate new comers who post deals getting shut down

What do you mean? Only time ive seen this is if its broken a rule or is a crap bargain.

        • 'crap bargain' a new member posts a bargain thats..well not really a bargain and gets ripped a new one by some members instead of politely pointing it out.

The 64gb version is $25.20 delivered from futuonline with the ebay deal.

or the same model for $8.80, probably more of a deal as you dont have to leave the house, apart from going to the letterbox

80 cents extra to avoid dealing with a Harvey Norman staff? Now thats the real bargain.

      • +1

Thanks for that, was going to get one from Harvey Norman but I hate going in there so the extra 80c is totally worthy it

      • +1

+1 - I will spend the 80c so I can avoid Harvey Norman staff, lol

      • Thanks a lot, just ordered on eBay. I didn't wanna spend time going to the shop, much appreciated!

      • Thanks for this. It would have cost me $2.85 in fuel collecting from my nearest HN so still saving $2 plus don't forget 1.25% cashback which brings it down to $8.66!

  • +3

Just be warned that the lower capacity drivers are a lot slower than the 64GB and 128GB drives. The build is really nice but the transfer speeds are just mediocre for a 3.0 drive. I have the 128GB model, it reads ~110MB/s and writes 100MB/s then quickly drops to 30MB/s, random speeds are pretty average too. Not bad for the price but the PNY turbo is actually faster if potentially less reliable, you just have to watch out for the bait and switch with these drives as there are a few variations out there of vastly varying performance.

    • My 128gb is about the same with write speeds, still a decent drive

  • It shows as $8 - but in the cart it shows at full price…???
    Limit 3 per customer fyi

    • Oh = could it be they know I'm in WA and its not technically Saturday yet???

  • Cheers just grabbed 2, already have a 128gb version of this but now I have some spares I don't mind lending/losing

  • good deal

  • +1

This is great however it gets a bit hot, and very hot on my macbook :/

Speeds are fast and Drive is well built
