hmmm, i think i'd rather use my xbox360 elite that i bought for 227$ from Harvey Norman :)

    • agreed but as a 360 owner I can say it is annoying at times that it doesnt support x264.

Having said that this 'bargain' at 10% off hardly raises my interest

  • What is the BEEEZZZZ KNEEEEZZZ for 1080p 'plays all codecs' player at the moment?

    • +1

there are so many out there just depends on your personal needs and budget. They all have there problems just depends if there is support from the company to fix them.

  • Noontec v8 moviehome pro + wireless stick for $169.00 from online computer

Does all the above and lets you download torrents without a computer , sweet !

ps no dual bay but why have a dual bay ?

  • Xtreamer is in partership with Mvix which is pretty much one of the first companies out there to realese a media player around 5 years ago. There's been a few firmware updates already for the Xtreamer (see http://www.xtreamer.net). And there is ongoing support to release new firmware updates.

There are alot of media players out there and aacheney is right. It depends on your budget and what (if any) future support in terms of firmware updates the manufacturers are willing to push out. The cheaper ones from our experience usually have a slower chipset, less memory and no firmware updates and we get customers who buy the cheaper units coming to us to buy a "proper media player". I'm not saying to buy the Xtreamer immediately, but do your research and I think its worth paying a little more for a quality unit with the company backing the product with new firmware updates.

    • mvix gets horrible reviews as a device , why would this be any better?

    • gui http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0ZHJjijc6w

Also as a head up this device has a xxx internet channel(around the 1:15 mark on the video) for all parents out there I have been told you can password block this.

It also only has Ethernet 10/100 RJ-45

      • Oh man, Ethernet 10/100 RJ-45.
That is a deal breaker for me :(

  • New 2.40 firmware was just released yesterday!
    http://www.xtreamer.net/downloads/xtreamerpro/firmware/ver-2…

I can concur with aacheney that there is a password block on adult channels as well as folder locking to restrict access.

    • how loud is the fan on the pro?

      • Not loud at all. You can barely hear it from 2.5m away with the audio off. With the audio on, you can't hear it at all. For comparison purposes, its quieter than a PC fan.

    • I have read them both…

Both threads are old, I do understand the problem that Xtreamer have had with the Xtreamer (http://www.circuitcentral.com.au/xtreamer.html), but this is the pro which has been updated via firmware to do the things that they promised, people who have the xtreamer were promised that it would do things (like HD Audio 7.1) which was a limitation of the hardware (realtek). I can understand that the customer bought the device from Xtreamer and not realtek so there is cause for a lot of blame aimed at xtreamer for not confirming that it could do everything that was promised, but I am sure that realtek told Xtreamer that it would.

I currently have a astone AP-300 and I am finding it very lacking in the support area(firmware upgrades), so this might be replacing the Astone. I was trying to support a Australian company but there are so many bugs with the astone over the time, one which formated the internal drive.

  • As aacheney said, those threads are old (around 6 months old) and it was for a different Xtreamer product (the 2.5" version) that said it would support HD 7.1 Audio but then was unable to do so due to hardware limitations.

However, with that said, the new Xtreamer 2.5" Media player now supports HD 7.1 Audio anyway with the new firmware released and the Xtreamer PRO also supports HD 7.1ch Audio.
