Nice price..It's really loaded up with Ports too.

Bless my eyes I see VGA and a HDMI output.

  • This laptop is LIT!

  • +1

    Network port +1 from me

The only possible downside I can think of is that it's probably a TN panel. But at this price getting full HD + an SSD is already great.

      At the price point, meh
TN panels are more than good enough for a cheap laptop

A review for those inclined on the Display

    Display

The Aspire E5's 15.6-inch screen features a reasonable 1080p resolution, but despite very strong synthetic test numbers, it provides dull output and poor color accuracy.

    Acer Aspire E5-575G-53VG display

When we tested the E5-575G-53VG with our colorimeter, the laptop reproduced an impressive 143 percent of the sRGB color gamut. That's miles ahead of the Notebook 15 and F555UA, which clock in at 63 and 64 percent, respectively, as well as the 89-percent category average. Unfortunately, in this case, the gamut number doesn't tell the story.

In practice, the screen is quite dull, with just 195 nits of brightness. Considering that the category average is 250 and competitors like the Notebook 15 (220) and F555UA (223) are much brighter, the E5's panel makes for some disappointing video. I watched an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and was routinely underwhelmed by the dull reds and yellows of the characters' uniforms, as well as the generally gray pallor of the whole ship. The Aspire E5 made the usually inviting Enterprise-D look like the least fun ship in Starfleet.

    MORE: Best Acer Laptops

Likewise, the Aspire E5's gamut number does not translate to great accuracy. The machine scored a Delta-E error rating of 3.26, where closer to zero is better. To be fair, that score bests the 4.44 category average and the 3.5 showing by the Notebook 15, but falls behind the 2.3 rating on the F555UA.

After testing and retesting the color gamut, my co-workers and I were surprised that the screen looked so inaccurate. However, we did all agree that the colors looked radically different with the screen tilted even slightly backward or forward, and that when viewed head-on, everything was a little washed-out. Chalk it up to the low brightness and high Delta-E score, but the display is just not great.

There aren't many screen options aside from adjusting general brightness, so what you see is pretty much what you get — and you won't see much if you angle yourself more than 45 degrees away, incidentally. The Aspire E5's screen still gets the job done, for the most part. Considering the screen's rich gamut, though, I had hoped for much better.

If it's that weak in brightness it's highly unlikely it's an IPS panel, so as people said it's probably a TN.

Not for me but for powerheads or people wanting for video editing it's a good buy.

I personally bought a xiaomi mi notebook air 12.5 for the same price a few weeks ago

      • From where did you bag that mi notebook deal?

And how good is mi notebook? Thanks

        • Banggood. And pretty fraxkin nice build and operation. Got the gold colour which isn't too gaudy actually

        • @adrianhughes1998: I was looking at that too… 4GB ram only though seems pretty rough

        • @Xizor: it's more than enough considering the processor power and SSD used. If you are doing video editing then yeah you're doomed.

        • +1

@adrianhughes1998: I found even regular multitasking gets screwy with that much RAM unfortunately.

        • @MxBlue: again depends on your user needs, on my old laptop with a core i3 3rd generation, 4gb ram wasn't enough and for the browsing i did in Chrome i needed to go to 8gb, which i did and that fixed it. however with this Xiaomi so far so good with lots of Chrome tabs.

    • The screen looks poor from this video -

Those numbers and the interpretations are incorrect.

So this TN panel gets a supposed 143% of SRGB. This makes it one of the highest spec LCD monitors ever produced. With those numbers it must kill all the other colour spaces as well.

While 195 nits is not great for a device you may desire to use outdoors(300 seems to be the goal), it will burn your eyes out indoors(120 is recommended brightness).

They didn't even attempt to callibrate the display, instead he just kept retesting, looking for a different result. What? Then had to ask others if it looked OK? What? Then again why calibrate when according to the review the display is pretty much perfect. What?

  • DDR4 ram nice
    1 year limited warranty :/

  • I recently picked up a variant of this with dedicated graphics and kaby lake processor (E5-575G-57D4) on amazon for 589usd delivered

Sorry! I hadn't done much searching and wasn't sure if it was such a great deal at the time so I thought if I posted it on ozBn I'd be laughed out of here.

Ah what a community… Fear of being ostracised even at an online forum. That's quite sad and the people of ozbargain should fix this. Because you are not alone

From specs, it looks like it a M.2 SATA SSD … not 2.5" as per post.
Which means its even better cos it leaves the 2.5" drive bay free for your own big mech drive

  • Intel HD 520 Graphics isn't a great one

    • +1

For normal (non-gaming) use it really doesn't matter.

  • -2

The price for specs is nice. I bought my laptop 2 months ago with weaker specs for 650. Wish i could swap somehow

  • This is great. But might see what easter brings.

I just purchased this laptop's little brother off Amazons for $349.99US [-6% cashrewards] with a 275 Gig SSD and another 4 Gig of DDR4 ram. Due for delivery today.

    Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM 15.6-Inch Full HD Notebook (Intel Core i3-7100U Processor 7th Generation , 4GB DDR4, 1TB 5400RPM Hard Drive, Intel HD Graphics 620, Windows 10 Home) $349.99US

Comes out to around the same money with slightly less cpu power, slightly better graphics [though not by much] , a 1TB data drive plus a 275 Gig SSD and the same 8 gig of ram.

It's worth noting that since I purchased the lappy, Amazons put the price down to $329.99US then back up to the $349.99US a few days latter.

    • Just wanted to say, thanks for posting this. i would have never have found a laptop like this if you didn't post it.

This was pretty much the laptop I've been looking for the past few weeks

      Low power CPU
      No graphics card
      SSD (upgradable)
      1080 screen
      15" screen
      good battery life

and added bonuses were the backlit keyboard, M.2 port, above average battery life, 1TB hard drive.

I'd say this ist he perfect budget laptop for office work/coding/casual use or whatever it is that isn't gaming or video editing.

I've been watching a few reviews of the laptop on youtube, I'm just wondering if you've received yours yet and tested out the battery life?

      • Sorry bigubosu for not seeing your post earlier. About 6 hrs I get out of it until it hits below 20%.

        • No worries, thanks for replying. So about 8 hours of battery life. I guess there are numerous variables to take into account but it's well within my range.

  • It's still able to run current games, right? For example pes 2016 or pes 2017?

    • +1

I would be inclined to say no. Maybe at 720p on low.

Check notebookcheck.net for benchmarks for the hd520.

How does this charge? Us aus adaptor or is this new usb3 charging and you would need a normal usb hub?

  • +1

I still can't bring myself to buy anything Acer. When I worked retail Acers came back in under warranty much more frequently than any other brand, and the build quality always seemed sub-par.

    • Can't say much about this model, but my S7 has been going pretty well.

    • The warranty service is great
      my Acer DLP projector died
      was 1.5 years old
gave me a store credit to officeworks for the value of 898
then bought an epson - has filtering of the fans / lens and lamp area, acer didn't

  • Looks like a fantastic deal for the config! Anyone knows if there would be any import duties applicable if buy this in VIC?

    • i hope not. i already bought it but in terms of price, limit is 1000 dollars i reckon.

      • I have taken the gamble and brought it too!! Let's hope for the best!

        • mine is estimated to be delivered by the end of april 12. what about yours?

        • @baldur: I just got a notification from DHL with my delivery scheduled for today! Surprised it has arrived so quickly!!

  • How I cherish the days when $US1= 1 Aussie dollar it might come back again

  • 2.23 KG .. DAM!

  • How did you pay? I purchased by PayPal and I see 690 dollars in my account.

    • $ 661.95 when I purchased it, not sure if there would be any international transaction fee that would be charged as the payment was made in USD through paypal

      • i dont see two different transactions. i work with nab, normally they show as another transaction if it is paid with a foreigner currency. interesting, i couldnt figure why. still good deal of course.

        • When my transaction went from 'pending' to 'confirmed' the final amount was $ 672.77 + $13.00 international trxn fee..still a good price all up

  • Now 529usd

  • This deal seems to be back on again.

Did anyone get one last time and if so, how is it?

It is only $10 dearer to post to Australia than to actually pick it up in NY (which I will just happen to be next week)

    Thanks
