    Also at Woolworths and Coles

    • Just got 2 from Coles recently and it doesnt have the 30 day activation sticker on the pack this time. Expiry Feb 2018.

      • I Bought some from woolies and it did have the 30 day activation sticker.

    • Coles just stopped this promotion today and bumped the $40 vodafone sim up to $20 (from 15). Was just in there hours ago.

    Remember

Activate on your chosen prepaid plan within 30 days of purchase to make sure you can get the benefits of that plan.

    • +1

I noticed that on the package too, but what are the "benefits"? I'm sure the $30 value will be usable until the actual SIM is expired (end of 2018).

      • Activate on your chosen prepaid plan within 30 days of purchase to make sure you can get the benefits of that plan.

        • That kills it for me. Does that mean they plan to change their plans?

        • The "benefits" get changed without notice usually, sometimes better, sometimes not. You will always still get $30 starter credit to choose on whatever offer is current.

Very unprofessional support from Optus, even managed to answer "I am not sure about that" lol…

I'd take his answer with a gain of salt TBH.

  • This has probably be asked a hundred times but can I use the $30 credit on the Play Store?

    • +1

No. Telstra USE to do this and if you're on one of their old plans you still can, but no more sadly.

      • when did they stop ?

      • +1

They still do - just need to pick the 'long expiry' option when you activate.

Not as good as the old plans, but still something.

      • +1

You get recharge/play store credit when you activate a starter pack on PrePaid Plus. This doesn't apply to recharges. Not sure when Telstra will 'fix' this. Whirlpool

You can still get Google Play credit when both recharging and activating a starter pack on other pre-paid plans such as Simplicity, etc.

In reply to PrimalNuke - No. Optus pre-paid have never supported Google Play purchases.

    • I don't know why someone felt the need to downvote your question. I just upvoted it to compensate. Tired of all the downvoting on OzB.

    Kogan is doing $1 SIM's with 14GB data again - https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-voucher-code-extra…

    • Thanks so much. Will buy this while waiting for internet connection.

    • -2

Interesting that they removed the "expires by 31th June" clause.

I hope it becomes a permanent fixture. ;D

      • does this apply to older purchases ?

      • +2

'Voucher expires at 11:59pm AEST on 30/06/2017.'

      • Do you know if I can have two of these Kogan sims activated separately with different numbers but same name at one time on this 14GB offer as long as both are new or ported numbers. Or only one at a time for same name, need to port to and fro each time 14GB is used up with new sim?

        • +1

I haven't been able to so far, which means I've needed to wait until one had completely expired before activating a new one. I'd had a lot of trouble porting out and back in again, so I now just use Kogan as a spare, using it as a wifi hotspot. On another thread, someone mentioned not being able to use their credit card on more than 1 occasion (which Kogan insist on having as verification. I also had this issue with no help or advice from their call centre), so I haven't isolated what the actual issue of 'new' account means as yet. It's been difficult.

When is Telstra going to give us a descent offer ? Grr…

The 30$ OFFtus sim cards are faulty. I have been waiting since 1 week to get the credit

Will I get access to Optus Perks for 186 days if I select $30 Long Expiry Plan?

    • I want to know too.

  • For those who have purchased the recent starter packs with the 30 day limit, has anyone gone past the 30 days from date of purchase and the SIM still worked?

    • +1

yes i did. used one on 50th day after purchase. no issues.

btw the sim expiry is written at the back of pack so just make sure that date is valid.

Well as i said above, i myself activated optus $30 prepaid starter kit yesterday on 50th day after purchase date. So it works, nothing to worry about. Also on the 2nd post the other guy clarifies the same thing from Optus and acknowledge it.

        • @mady123:

Okay. Thanks for that. Sounds like optus might be bluffing about the 30 day rule then.

  • Just a WARNING to people here.Usually Sim Starter Packs have at least 6 months to a year expiry for Optus and Telstra, but sometimes they clear older stock or Rep did rotate or remove older stock.

Because on their ebay listing they state it "activate on chosen plan within 30 days of purchase", that might be the reason they are stating this and

hence clearing out on sale here. I hoop not for people who ordered planning to activate later. I would only get one of these for activating soon without

knowing the expiry date for sure. I might send a ebay message to ask Optus direct and report back.

    • Got one from coles a few days back, expiry is dec 1 2018.

      • Sure, that was Coles not ebay. I have also nearly purchased sims from Coles and Woolworths but noticed a close expiry date, some even expired already. This is an unknown date and they are warning people. I have never seen a promotion like that before, only special offers ending, but after that can still activate as long as within the listed expiry on back.

  • Coles and woolworths often offer $30 optus sim at $10.
Vodafone seldom, telstra only provided half price for SIM.

thanks op bought one for those pesky port in port out to enjoy deals as "new " customer only deals, in particular Kogan 14 gigs for $1 after one month you need to port out then say 2 weeks plus later port in as new customer to enjoy yet another $1 14 gigs

    • Just to clarify, if you port out from say Kogan, and then port back in with them, are you then considered a 'new customer'?

  • Nm

  • Yes
