  • damn, 4.7 inch phone must be like a mini in 2017

Yeah, as I said, it's replacing my last Samsung, which is literally called the S5 "mini".

For some of us, this is actually a particular advantage of this phone: it's what we old folks call "phone-sized".

I often use my phone as a phone, not just for facebook/youtube/reading/games, and I often carry it in my pocket. So I actually prefer the smaller size, and have to look around for "mini" phones like this.

some of you are crazy if you think smaller is an advantage for a touchscreen smartphone.

your eyes must hurt so bad looking at such small screens all the times and texting aswell.

        • +6

That's the thing, we aren't look at our screens "all the times".

(and it's like 2cm smaller than the average smartphone in width and height, certainly not small enough to make anyone's eyes hurt).

@ItsMeAgro: Once the convenience of being able to keep them in your shirt pocket becomes an issue we practical types start to struggle. Though I do think these larger chunks of things are ultimately winning out. I blame the younguns'. Practicality seems to evade in many a case. Great phones but the trend as we have all seen, is that the larger ones are the way to go whether we like it or not, capability and technically wise anyways. The only point I can give to the larger ones is indeed that you can more easily see what is on the screen. Damn the practicality! RIP.

  • Terrible camera on these A model.
Photo looks fake af on low light.

    I have had the A3 2015,2016 and now 17.
It is a great phone for the price.

Hopefully Samsung and the like don't just decide next year to make this compact phone around 5 inches and keep same body size. It would be refreshing if they instead kept the screen size the same but made it with smaller body. I mean the G6 is barely much bigger than this phone body size wise but still manages to fit an inch bigger screen. It's going to be interesting to see if the trend of bigger screens continues, and people who prefer the smaller phone only end up with 5 inch models available.

there is an A5 which is the australian version and has band 28.

even the moto g4 plus has band 28.

if you don't want band 28 for the optus and telstra 4g , then might as well buy a xioami .

    • Yeah I was really hoping for Band 28, but… my current phone doesn't have it, and it hasn't been a problem at all. I never even noticed it.

A5 is the bigger size, so no point for me.

And Xiaomi haven't yet proven themselves reliable enough to last for 5 years or more (like my Samsung Galaxy S2 has) since they haven't even been around that long. If, say, a Xiaomi costs $200 but lasts for 2 years, while a similar Samsung costs $300 but lasts for four, then Xiaomi are actually more expensive in the long term. (Kids who mostly use phones for games and such might still prefer to upgrade every 2 years anyway, to get a better CPU and such. But less-frequent upgrading is actually an advantage to me, since the time it takes me to properly research and buy one is worth hundreds of dollars).

  • How do you get to $281.60? On eBay, checkout price after CYBER code is $313.60 (still a good price, though)

  • Looks like they increased the price!

It was 350 (CYBER code discount made it 280) but now it's 390.

I guess we bought a bunch and alerted them that some of their customers were getting good value, so of course they had to increase the price to prevent that!

I'll have to mark the deal as expired.
