Over 11,000 Free eBooks - BookDepository.com (Freebie)

461

For all you ebook enthusiasts and aficionados out there! There are 11,000+ free ebooks to be had on bookdepository.com!

Some odd titles there but all free and if you take the time to navigate through the various categories I'm sure you'll find some goodies to add to your collection.

NB: I found that using Firefox was better than Chrome to download these free ebooks. Firefox also shows individual categories within the special offer section. (Tip: Middle click on a link to open it in a new tab - saves a lot of time and lets you download more ;)!) Enjoy!

  • PS: Not sure how to add a picture sorry.

    Nevermind - just added itself.

  • Guess I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, but they're all .pdf, you can't choose any other format such as epub.

You're right, it'd be even better if they would let you pick other formats as well. You could always convert them to epub with Calibre or Alfa eBooks Manager - not ideal I know. The metadata on these ebooks is a bit messy as well… Oh well, like you said ;)

I'm obviously slow - & site crashed before having a good look, but how to browse free ebooks by category

  • Ditto aar's question. Wasn't immediately obvious how to access the free eBook section(s). Any thoughts?

    To snowpuppie and aar

go to that link, open 1 of the 15883 results and there's a green link in the middle of the page which says 'Download Free eBook PDF'
    http://www.bookdepository.com/book/9781406589443/Conditions-…
Here's 1 of the books for free.

  • Perfect. Thanks, meetspin!

  • Has anyone found any good eBooks yet?
The only good eBook I've manage to find so far is 'The Art of War'.

Other than that, these look like books no one else would read or buy.

    (Still gave a +ve though)

For those who want to keep track of your eBooks (even though you might not own an e-reader device) I also suggest downloading an app called Calibre, an eBook manager.

From the half dozen or so I have looked at, it seems these are all books that are old enough to out of copyright.

Actually, this is a dupe. But since the original post is more than 8 months ago, then I won't neg this.

    • I was just thinking the same thing :-)

    • how can you even have the idea to neg it?

    • I did make a search for it before posting and couldn't find it. Sorry…

    Looks good,

Other sites that offer free e books are:
    Project Gutenberg - http://www.gutenberg.org/browse/scores/top
    Project Gutenberg Australia - http://gutenberg.net.au/

And a list of more free ebooks from the mobile read wiki.

    • Awesome thanks for the links :)

  • wonder if these will work on the kobo. thanks

  • can someone post the links to "The art of war" and "The Prince".

    Cheers,

  • Any good calculus or astrophysics books?

  • Anyone have any favourties that you can recommend?

    • I found Iliad by Homer http://www.bookdepository.com/book/9781905432073/The-Iliad
They have a huge collection of ebooks by Plato and Aristotle if you are into ancient Greek philosophy.

Also found countless books by William Shakespeare. You can probably find Shakespeare's entire work on that database I can't even believe it!

      • Nice!

Thanks for the reply! (DLing now :))

I am getting Bram Stroker's Dracula books, and some stuff by T. S. Eliot

I am using calibre to make them epub for use on my android tablet :)

  • Going through 15,000 free books isn't as fun as it seems :p

Crime & Punishment is a great book btw.

    • Agreed.

But reading the ones you have picked will be (hopefully) worth it!

    • Fully agree lol!

Almost certainly, these are all just copies of text from:

    http://www.gutenberg.org/

But maybe the formatting is better…

Note that there are different rules in Australia, so it's also worth going to:

    http://gutenberg.net.au/

    • Not sure if they are on Gutenberg but they will have expired copyright. That doesn't mean there aren't some good books in there but the writing style will be quite dated.
