I am all for the kitchen gadget, I have a number myself, but just how hard is it to cook a pancake in a frying pan that you need to buy one of these things.

I think its more the "set and forget" mode of cooking thats attractive about this. You can walk away and (probably) not burn your house down?

    • We have something similar to this sitting in the cupboard.

Always just use a frypan because it's easier to clean.

    • I been doing it for years myself but I find it easy when you have 1 child studying and I am suppose to help him. Second 3 years old wanting attention and on top of that their mother not being home. I could make pancakes for both of them at the same time. They are fussy eaters so we cook pancakes quite often.

Also idea is to help elder child to allow cooking although he may not have right consistency of the mix (we do not use premix).

    • Maybe you buy three of them, and have a stack read to go in 5 minutes?

Picked this up from BigW a few months ago for $25 (on sale).
    Also makes omelettes a breeze.
Cleaning up is as simple as giving it a wipe over.
Downside is finding room to store it in amongst all the other kitchen gadgets.

  • Agreed that a frypan is much better anyway, IMHO. I never really saw the attraction of a space-wasting appliance that could only be used for a single application.

awesome! Exactly what I need to compliment my crepe maker and pikelet maker.

What a waste of money and space.

:) - I do not have those but I plan to use this one for other things e.g. a veggie chilla (made of chickpea flour) and few other similar things. Who knows I can also make chapati on it (will try)?

You also need to buy a waffle maker, brownie maker and milkshake maker 😌

      • 😌 - Interesting list…does smoothie makers count and those air fryers also count? I have those and we use every day.

        • If it can only used for smoothies, and not a general vitamizer, then you need a different appliance. My Vitamix can puree a brick so it is good for pasta sauces, soups, etc as well as great smoothies.

  • I have a pancake maker in my cupboard, it also cooks omelettes and fried rice… I call it a frying pan.

  • If this is anything like the Tefal one, then the pancakes turn out to be more like the Japanese Dorayaki. Like a UFO saucer, thicker in the centre and then thin at the edge. Because of how its like a sandwich press the pancakes don't end up as light and fluffy as when they can rise unrestricted.
So what I've ended up doing with these, is putting about 2/3 of the batter in, then a blob of jam or any sort of filling then putting rest of batter over it, then closing the press. Turns out really good!
