I bought a Nikon Lens from these guys and they shipped the wrong one. When I rang them they bent over backwards to rectify the mistake, and did so very promptly at no cost. I was very impressed, especially because it wasn't their fault. Nikon had put the wrong lens into the box in the first place. V. Happy with the service.

35mm or the 50mm for the crop body?

I have 85mm for my full frame.

    • +3

35mm is good indoor and outdoor

      • I agree.
        Ended up buying a 50mm 1.8D for $107(work discount)

    • 35mm is good indoor and outdoor

    • I'm happy with the 35mm as my go to lens. Just take a few steps forward if a closer crop is needed.

    • FYI. 50mm for crop body = 85mm for full frame.

So I suggest you get 35mm.

      • RE: 50mm for crop body = 85mm for full frame.

Field of view yes, optics no. That is just the frame size not the optics.

Optically 50mm will remain the 50mm , 85mm has different compression.

        Focal Length:
The focal length of the lens is the distance between the lens and the image sensor when the subject is in focus, usually stated in millimeters (e.g., 28 mm, 50 mm, or 100 mm)

        • Fair point there if you're talking about the optics.

But for myself, I have 85mm on my full frame and 35mm on my crop. Sony A7ii + Sony A6000.

@windows7: I got the similar combos with different bodies
          Nikon D610 + 85mm 1.8g Nikkor
          Nikon D7000 + 35mm 1.8G Nikkor

  • decent prime lens for a beginner? (i have a d3200 dslr)

are there cheaper lenses (say, from Tamron) that are as about as good?

    • +1

yes, some people go to Nikon for this lens (no equivalent from canon)

No exactly. Sigma has crop 30mm/1.4 which is superior, tamron has full frame 35mm/1.8 VC, both are times more expensive.

      • okay, thanks.

with regards to cropped/full frame lenses, does it matter when my d3200 has a cropped sensor?
will i get even more cropping?
does my question even make sense? ;)

        • +1

no, this lens is designed for cropped sensors (aps-c sensors are called cropped because they're smaller than 'full frame' dslrs (the sensor is smaller by a factor of 1.5 for these), so 35mm on this would = roughly 52.5mm on a full frame etc for field of view I believe). what it means is that if you connect it to a full frame, then the corners will be vignetted out. it's the right lens for your d3200 and a great cheap addition to prime lens photography.

        • @seraphim2017: thanks again for the explanations :)

    • +1

you can find old version of sigma 30/1.4 for same price, its better but has possibly AF issue.

      • thanks. i'm quite dependent on af so i think i'd better stick to the nikon lens

  • +2

This is a great lens. I have even used it on FF - with minimal vignetting.

    • Do you have any samples ? I never used my 35mm on my fx body

  • Any good deals on a Nikon beginner SLR at the moment?
