-

Excellent price for new local stock and currently the cheapest price around. Comes to $649.91 after the 20% off and delivery fee included. Price has remained quite constant over the years at $800-900, and hasn't been this cheap for about a year now. The cheapest price was $580 at Gerry's closing down sale, but you're unlikely to see those kind of prices again.

This lens is part of Olympus' Pro M.Zuiko line. Top quality glass, hermetically/airtight weather sealed against dust/water/freezing, weighs 382 grams, and is known to be extremely sharp.

This is what you will get in the box: LH-66 Lens Hood, LSC-0918 Lens Case, LC-62D Lens Cap, LR-2 Rear Lens Cap, Instruction Manual, and Warranty Card.

Also, if you're looking for a new camera bag, the Tamrac Jazz Zoom 25 is $19.88 delivered after the coupon code CYBER is applied. I was looking for a new bag, and according to this review on BH Photo Video it can hold an E-M5 m2 with a 12-40mm attached. Other reviews from Amazon and this one on Youtube were pretty convincing too.

Great price for a great lens.

  • This lens almost never leaves my camera (and I have four others) Get it if you can.

PS: $1199 for the 40-150 Pro is a good price also.

    • I only replace it with a Panasonic LUMIX G 20mm f-1.7 ASPH for portraits and low profile party photography.

There are also a few left from camerastore.com.au which comes to $627.20 after the 20% off. Free delivery or click and collect available:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/201731321291?_trksid=p2060353.m27…

Just bought one last night! Also hoping to claim GST on TRS which will bring it down to $570. Couldn't pass on such a great deal.

    • Fantastic price and very nice find!

    • +1

It should actually end up being cheaper as the invoice from camerastore.com.au will still show $874. The eBay 20% off is applied as a credit to the seller and not a discount from your purchase. At least that's how it should work and that's how previous purchases with eBay sales have worked for me on invoices.

If this is true, then it'll be another $71.72 refunded to you when you do TRS, bringing it down to $555.93.

      • Even better! Thanks for letting me know.

  • Great lens, have one and covers 80% of my shooting

  • Wow nice price. Only just on-sold mine last month for $700. Very nice lens although I found the range a little restrictive for travel. Placed a preorder for a GH5 kit with the new PL12-60mm which I think will suit my purposes a little better. Mirrorlessons just put up a review comparing the two and claim image quality is all but identical, which is encouraging as the Oly is superb. Will be interesting to see how it fares.

    • Haven't really felt the need to go longer for travelling, definitely lots of occasions to go wider, which is why I also take the 7-14mm 2.8 with me

      • Don't you guys find it too big/heavy (unbalanced) for travelling? Found myself using primes when in Asia/Europe. Using E-M5.

    • +3

It's the 4/3 line, so nothing to worry about in terms of MFT.

    • What?????

    • +3

I think they only end the old 4/3 line, not the Micro 4/3.

      • only if he does understand m4/3 is not 4/3…

    • Right. EM1 Mk2 just launched. If anything, the MFT line is ramping up.

  • worth selling kir lens 14-42 and buying this instead? hope it comes back in stock at the cheaper store.

    • +1

I wouldnt risk it for $12 bucks. It could sell out at teds too

    • That's what I'm doing! Can't comment on the 12-40 quality as I haven't received my order yet, but the M.Zuiko pro line is regarded as the pinnacle of Olympus' lenses - just about the best you can get for the micro 4/3 system. And while the kit lens is really good (here's a nice picture based review by Robin Wong), the 12-40 is a premium upgrade on all levels (range, sharpness, quality, faster.)

      • I have this 12-40 for over a year and I can comment about the quality - its simply amazingly sharp piece of glass. Biggest downside? Pretty relatively massive.

kit lens 14-42 would be tiny in comparison.

      • robin wong is a paid Olympus shill..good luck getting your photos up to his level

    • +1

That is exactly what I did when the previous mentioned sale was on

      Best thing I ever did!

    • back in stock at camerastore eBay shop

  • +1

Hardly see this lens on sale! Professional quality lens. Found my friends one great for portraits at very sharp at 40mm at f2.8. Huge upgrade from the kit lens

  • +1

Does anyone have any comparison photos of 14-42EZ vs the 12-40 pro? I am already pretty amazed by the kit lens, it is huge upgrade from Galaxy S6 smartphone camera. Just wonder how much better it can get and if it is worth the expense. I guess I could sell the 14-42 for about $200 in used condition. Have to say I love the small "pancake" size, super portable. I am not doing any serious photography, just enjoying it as a hobby and hoping to do do some travel in the near future. I am very tempted because it seems like a good deal given that someone above sold their used one for $700. I will probably order this tomorrow.

Although I don't have the 12-40 pro, I do have one of the compact 'kit' zoom lenses (and used to have others, before I gave them away), and also the Olympus 14-54 Mk II (f/2.8 to f/3.5) zoom. I only occasionally use the 'better' standard zoom.

Could I suggest, especially if compact camera kit and travel is important, that you consider lenses which are VERY different to your current kit lens?

      For example

      1. 'Disney-zoom' style lens : does 'almost' everything in daylight conditions e.g. Panasonic 14-140 mm (the only lens my father ever uses, including taking photographs of flowers in neighbour's front garden, without having to walk into the garden)

      2. 'Portrait' style lens : wider aperture than your kit zoom, usually f/1.7 or f/1.8 e.g. Panasonic 42.5 mm (also reasonable 'macro' capability), Olympus 50 mm

      3. 'Macro' lens : if you like flowers and insects e.g. Panasonic 42.5 mm, Olympus 60mm (the Olympus 60mm also does double duty as a reasonable portrait lens, if you don't mind standing far away from your subject)

      4. 'Wide angle' : the cheap and toy-like Olympus 9 mm 'body-cap' lens. Explore a new dimension to photography. Could be useful if photographing the outside of buildings in Europe (architecture-type photography), although you need bright light or a tripod (as only f/8), and there is no autofocus (but this wide at f/8, you barely need any focusing).

I think any of these lenses is, if you choose one which fits your style, able to open up a new-world of photography in a way exceeding that of simply having slightly wider aperture.

btw - I'm not a big fan of blurring everything in the photograph, anyway. Interesting subjects deserve interesting backgrounds.

      • Thanks for your detailed response. I think I'd like a macro lens the most, and apparently the 12-40 can do macro quite well. I was in Camera House not long ago and they told me the first lens I should get is the 12-40. I like the sound of those ones you listed and will keep them in mind, but I think I'll bite on this for now. Can sell it for same price it seems anyway if I decide to change at a later date.

    • It's mostly a matter of a constant aperture over the focus range.

2.8 at the 40mm distance is very nice!

  • It's okay, too heavy/big to leave it on my E-M5 when travelling.. usually my 17mm f1.8 stays on it.

  • Great deal ! I'm also looking to buy a View Finder 4 for my Olympus PEN EP 5, does someone know where I can purchase a cheap one ?

  • +1

Found I used this lens more while travel for the convenience of a zoom and the top notch IQ. However, didn't use it much outside of travel mainly due to the size and weight of it.

  • +1

Worth replacing my Olympus 12-50mm lens with this one?

    • I assume you mean the stock one. Yes, if it's in your budget.

  • A must-have lens at a great price!

back in stock at camera store: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/201862195543 $627.2

  • My Ted's order still hasn't shipped, ordered on Monday. Wish I waited for camera store now, and would have got the higher Cashrewards as well..

  • Update: Just received my order. The Ted's order has a L-shaped air bag that protects 2 sides of the rectangular lens box. Unfortunately wish it had been on all sides, as 2 sides of the lens box had no protection. That being said, the Olympus lens box has a lot of protection. Cardboard stilts, and bubble wrapped. Comes with a tax invoice for $809.90, GST $73.62 for those interested.

    • How long did they take to ship your order?

      • +1

Paid on the 14th. Got a Ted's 'Delivery is on it's way' email on the 16th with shipping info. Arrived today, on the 22nd. Edit: also according to the Shippit information, on the 15th they'd already placed an order with Auspost, and the next day Auspost picked it up.

        • Mine still hasn't shipped and they didn't respond to my message I sent yesterday. A bit annoyed because they say items normally ship in one business day and I was hoping it would arrive by Friday. Kinda wish I held off and waited for Camerastore to get more stock considering they ship with express and offer a cheaper price. I had a good experience with buying from Ted's eBay in the past, not sure why the delay this time.

  • Thanks OP - great deal.

  • +1

Got msg from teds, sold out and awaiting more stock. Would have been nice if they updated the listing or let customers know but anyway, no other option but to wait now that the sale is over and camera store sold out again.

    • Wow Nubz, thanks for sharing your experience. I might think twice about Ted's in the future, although I don't think I'll be buying any camera equipment for the next 10 years. I think you've been treated quite unfairly - from your comments it seems like Ted's displayed more stock then they actually had (whether human error or greediness) to get more sales, then basically put the out-of-stock orders on back-order leaving you without a lens for what looks like 2+ weeks from your most recent comment. Honestly a dirty way to get more sales than they already had, and a bit sour especially now that you've got to wait for the backorder, and they essentially stopped you from getting the better deal ($40 cheaper with next day delivery). I think the very least they can do for you is get you express shipping with a huge bubblewrapped box - I mean, what would have happened if you were going overseas and needed the lens, or wanted to claim back GST? And cutting off communication/giving you the cold shoulder is pretty rude to a customer who just spent $800 on your store. Best of luck mate, but it seems you've got the short end of the stick on this one. Do you have a nearby store? If so, maybe going in, or calling, and being politely disgruntled, but also firm, might get you more tangible results.

      • Thanks for your support jaffar. It is pretty disappointing and rather poor service. I just can't seem to win with eBay lately. Ted's are very slow on communication if they bother to respond at all, I just sent another message now asking them for ETA on when it will arrive and told them to upgrade the shipping to express. Unfortunately I do not have any store nearby to me. Seems like it will end up taking over two weeks from time of order to when I receive it. They probably have automated systems which manage their eBay listings, but still, they could have advised me a bit quicker or updated listings manually. They have quite a few negative reviews on ebay for various issues like this and some people being sent used items. Hmm. Makes me think twice about ordering from them again too, but will wait and see how they handle this first. If they get the stock tomorrow and express post it i'll be happy.

  • +1

Their stock was delayed again until around the end of this week apparently. I sent them a message asking them to express ship it as soon as stock arrives and they haven't responded to me. Really quite disappointing experience from Ted's this time around, if they had responded quicker in the first place I could have ordered from Camera Place for cheaper + free express shipping before the 20% sale finished. Interested if anyone else is in the same boat and if you also requested an upgrade on shipping due to delay, and their response?

    • Still waiting too, unfortunately I placed my order just before camerastore.com.au came back in stock.

Estimated delivery is 28 Mar - 4 Apr so I have yet to contact them, hoping I won't have to!

      21/3 Order placed
23/3 Marked as SENT on eBay

      • Did you receive a tracking number? My tracking number wasn't available on eBay, but rather on an email sent to me by Ted's.

        • No tracking number on eBay nor any emails. Maybe I shouldn't have my hopes up…
Lucky I'm not in any hurry for it.

Edit - Just messaged them for a tracking number. Let's see what happens.

        • +1

Update - Received the lens on 31/03/17

    • Placed my order on Monday 20/3, so far item has not been sent yet. Contact seller on ebay only to be replied with automated message. This sucks, since I do plan to claim back GST. I hope I can get it before easter holiday.

      • Yeah they give automated message and might only respond after multiple prompts, terrible communication. I contact them on twitter and now they say stock will arrive next week!! How can they get it so wrong each time.. three different stories I have been told now. Last time I buy from teds camera on eBay. Glad I didn't have a holiday planned!

  • latest message from them. They still didnt answer my question about the shipping uograde, hopefully as quick as possible means that they will upgrade it to express..

"Our apologies for any delay in getting back to you. I have checked on your order for you.

Unfortunately we received an abundance of orders for this product at the same time during the sale and did need to order new stock from Olympus directly. We were hoping to have that stock earlier than now and have just confirmed with Olympus that the stock was delayed slightly and is now due early next week.

We apologize for the delay and if this has caused any issues for you. We will be trying to get this out to you as quickly as possible."

So looks like it will be around a 3 week wait from time of order to receipt..
