Kogan 49" 4K LED TV - $359.20 Delivered @ Dick Smith / Kogan eBay

1071
CYBER

Have been looking for a new TV recently and when I saw this deal I figured it was too good to pass up.
Looked over some reviews for these and seemingly they do an adequate job, except for the sound, but I have a soundbar to plug in anyway.

You can also get the 55" for $440 from the same store if you so desire.

OP, do you know what the model number of this TV is?

  • Ah man, bought this from their website for $450 a few weeks ago! It's not bad. I haven't been able to watch anything in 4k yet but 1080p Netflix looks pretty good. Colours could be a bit better but spend a bit of time in the settings and you can get it looking alright.

    • +1

Do you know if it has chroma 4:4:4 as in does it look blurry or sharp as a monitor?

      • No idea. I haven't (and can't at the moment) tried it out with a PC.

  • how much does 4k bru-ray prayer cost

    • +2

$350+ from typical retailers for dedicated players, or you can buy an Xbox One S which price varies.

    ^^ 100 dorrar

  • How good is the up-scaling on Kogan TV's? Couldn't find much on google about it.

  • How would I return this TV if I wasn't happy with it?

    • Apparently if you keep the original box they will come and collect it, and either repair it or send you a new one.

      • +1

Pretty sure the ACL, says you don't need the original wrapping and nothing a company says can overrule the ACL. Don't quote me, i'm not a lawyer.

        • +1

Change of mind isn't covered by law

        • @tomkun01: bigmaccheese appears to have been talking about faults and repairs, in which case the ACL does cover.

        • +1

@BradleyDS2: what? Flaminglemon specifically said if he wasn't happy with it. Not if it has faults. Start a new thread.

        • @tomkun01: then bigmaccheese mentioned repairs, so it appears (big emphasis on appears) as though he interpreted the question by Flaminglemon as asking if he could return the TV if he wasn't happy with it due to a fault, since if bigmaccheese interpreted it as if he wasn't happy with it but there is no faults, then he wouldn't talk about repairs as they would be unnecessary and pointless.

Sometimes you get something, then you're not happy with it due to a fault, in which case ACL covers you even if you don't have the original box. I believe that was what Johnny was saying.

        • +1

@BradleyDS2: Yup. You're right. I had a TV that had too much light bleed the second it was out of the box. Thus my being unhappy.

What about outputs? Want to connect to a soundbar and my current Aldi (bauhn) has no helpful outputs.

    • Coaxial and 3.5mm

      • +3

Worth noting that the 3.5mm output is line out and not a headphone jack & plugging into it takes away volume control from the tv. Fine for a soundbar, not so fine for connecting headphones directly.

        • Thanks for that. It's little practical things like this that makes an appliance a pleasure or pain to use day in day out. I prefer not to have to connect the 3.5mm every time I want to amplify the audio externally. I don't have a receiver or soundbar which takes hdmi.

    • Dude, your paying under $400 for a 49" TV, you're lucky it's got HDMI 2.0! haha

I wonder what an equal spec TV costs samsung to make? I bet it's not too far off what it costs these guys. It would be nice to know though.

  • bought 1, thanks op :)

    • How narrow was the delivery window? Do they give you a choice or at least notification of a day to expect.

  • Can anyone say what the footprint of the tv stand is for the 55" model?

I'm trying to ascertain if it will fit on this?

    • Here's what I know from the chat operator:

"The distance of the legs on the front is 1014.9mm while the back side is 894.2mm"

Kogan also seems to have a 14 days change of mind returns policy for their home brands, that covers this TV.

    • +1

the 49" one I ordered was delivered yesterday. However, it doesn't fit the LACK bench in that link.

I inverted the legs to face inside, the TV stand is still very stable, and fits perfectly, but looks a bit odd though. I used the child straps provided for extra security, just in case.

  • Hi, Do anyone know which type of panel does this tv use (Samsung or LG)?

  • +1

    Decent for Switch use?

  • +1

Rupert Murdoch would love this deal.

  • +1

Why don't they just let Dick smith rest in peace

    • +2

They bought the name, why would you buy a name then retire it immediately?

  • What's the best value 4k player (Netflix + Youtube + downloaded content) to use with this?

    • +2

Maybe an Xbox One S? Depending on what deal you get, you can snag one for ~$300 or less.

    • Lots of cheapo Android TV options below $100. Just pick one with good reviews.

    • Get the Xiaomi Android TV device. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/297194

  • Damn code is not working, only tells me after I commit to buy

Update : it worked when I used the website, but not when I used the eBay app. Strange.

Thanks op, been waiting for a cheap one since DS stopped the 40.5" for $350

  • Note that if you use the voucher code you can't pay via credit card for this, only Paypal (was news to me!)

    • +2

But you can set up credit card as payment method in paypal. And that gives you all the extras that come with credit card payment (price insurance, extra warrant etc- depending on your card of course).

  • Looks exactly like the JVC 49" that was going for $328 late last year from Big W however re-badged Kogan.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/284415
    Cheers

    • It look similar but if you look closely it is not exactly the same.

JVC is 48" kogan is 49". The brightness is also different.

      • Ah OK.

I should have looked closer rather than a glance :-)

        Thanks for that

  • +1

    Perfect timing, thank you :)

    • I would also like to know this ;)

  • Can anyone recommend a good budget sound bar to go with this, preferably less than $150.

    • The HTCT 80 from Sony is decent. However it costs around 240 (after 20% discound @Dick Smith eBay store. Could be some better deals out there though, especially if your willing to go for seconds.

    • +1

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Samsung-HW-K360-Soundbar-130W…

This was just posted. Was $199 on special already, $159 after 20% discount. Generally good reviews.

      • +1

Yea, i pulled the trigger on that deal already.

        • I picked up this soundbar yesterday and tried to install with signify 55" TV I bought this week. Will encounter same issue with this TV as both TV have no optical out. I have to order an optical in to coax out converter.

        • @andyman1908: I actually got this TV instead . Not sure if i am gonna encounter the same problem or even need the sound bar but heck, got the sound bar anyway cause it's cheap.

        • @highdealer: looks like you might. Listing shows only coaxial out.

        • @andyman1908: received the converter yesterday and does the trick. Make sure u buy the coaxial in, optical out type.

  • Just a note for anyonw considering the 55 OP mentions. It uses an LG panel instead. Not sure how much of a difference it makes. Just a thought.

  • Arg. So tempted to buy this, but the missus reckons a branded TV (Sony/Panasonic) would be much better. :(

    • +1

I think she's right. Spend a few hundred more and get something you can actually see in a store. I recommend a Sony with Android TV. I haven't seen any Panasonics with Android TV here yet, but I know they're on to it.

I'm getting this for the bedroom, primarily for watching things when the main TV is in use.

  • Kogan 49" 4K LED TV delivered $359.20

Screen area (rough estimate since no dimensions for without bezel)

    110.5cm x 8.6cm x 63.9 cm

    110.5 cm x 63.9 cm = 7060.95 cm^2

    7061 cm^2 / $360 = 19.61 cm^2 per dollar OR 5 cents a cm^2

Please check my working out and let me know or correct me if I have made any mistakes or spread any misinformation. Trying to get a friend good $ per screen area or real estate for all the good Ozbargain 4k tv deals.

Initial rough draft for tv speculations and price estimation calculations.

  • Anyone tried using one of these TVs as a monitor for a PC?

  • if youre thinking about buying this tv without looking at it first, and are hoping for something great. think again. i made this mistake. sent it back. wanted to use it with my ps4, the colours are dark, it lags ALOT. High definition? yeah not really. ended up buying a samsung 8 series. Cheap just doesnt compare

  • Anyone else have any info about playing games on these things?
Bit worried about lag. No game mode.

  • +1

Received mine today and initial impression is positive.
I am using it in my spare room as a second TV and it is perfect for this purpose. The sound is below average and sounds tinny, but the resolution makes up a bit for it. Lag when changing channels and accessing menus is about average, maybe a second or two longer. Menu interface is the stock standard dated looking one that seems to get used on all cheap TV's.
Overall if you want a rock bottom priced unit with decent but not exceptional features go for it. If you have realistic expectations, you may be pleasantly surprised like I was.

    • Agreed! the only problem I have is the sound. Max Bass is still no Bass.
It doesn't worry me too much. It does have a headphone output. I may buy myself a good sound system to connect it to later.

      • I couldn't believe how bad the sound was. I hooked in an old aldi bluetooth speaker through aux and it sounded better. I guess a soundbar is in my future…

  • I need one for my guest room it should be Ok at this price for occasional use.

  • [resolved]

  • I don't know what the quality control on these is like but I've already requested a refund… Freezing and display errors frequently during use(sometimes fixed by a quick power cycle)

  • I received my 55" NON-agora yesterday, terrible sound so I'll get a soundbar but picture isn't too bad.. (at least compared to my very old 37" LG.

Someone mentioned ideal video settings for these tvs to get best picture. Given I barely understand what the terms mean nor really what I should be aiming for any tips would be appreciated. Google didn't help…
