Might want to check out the Highlander USB PVR STB instead. Also records to USB, and has a wide variety of file support (including MKV).

I own a highlander (picked up in January for $49.95 from Clint's Warehouse) and its been the best $50 ive spent. Definitely better value than the aldi set.
