  • I bought a new NEC SVGA projector for $500 from HT 7 years ago. I'm kinda surprised that the prices haven't come down much further… heh. :)

    • I would say you got a huge bargain. I paid over $2,000 (distrubutor cost) for the Infocus X1 SVGA DLP about 7 years ago.

I am keeping my eye out for a deal on a 1080p projector..

      • I think the RRP on my NEC was only about $1,499 or so (i.e. it was an entry level model), and was 3LCD rather than DLP. Still a bargain at $500 on clearance, but it probably doesn't really compare to your Infocus X1. :)

I'm on the lookout for a 1080p projector bargain here too, funnily enough!

  • compared to your Nec, this is probably better spec, smaller/lighter/more energy efficient/more features etc this is DLP, contrast is better than your average pc monitor!

    • Yes, true (my NEC is 3LCD rather than DLP). 7 years is a long time though, and I wouldn't recommend an 800 x 600 projector to anyone nowadays. :)

yeah, but the resolution is terrible!
    Absolutely unhackable for gaming/computing/movies.

Just buy a second hand data projector from a public service reseller. Much better quality/resolution and average price of about $200
(just be sure to make sure the bulb has at least 1000+hours left on it)

I actually haven't used my 800 x 600 (SVGA) NEC for about 2.5 years now simply because the resolution doesn't cut it anymore.

Where can I find those service reseller?

    • Also interested in where this service retailer would be. Looking for a projector to output TV/movies from my PC for the missus while i game. :)

  • Does anyone know how good this projector would be to watch a DVD or even TV on a projector sreen or even a white wall?
