    wait, paying $150 for $5?
    how is that a deal?

    • Hi tuzii, the coin is a limited edition collector coin. The RRP is $150.

        still doesn't answer the question of:
        how is that a deal?

        • We are offering free shipping for this product. A saving of $9.50.

          @DirectCoins: We come here for bargains. Charging $150 for $17.20 worth of silver minted as a $5 coin does not become a bargain just because you don't charge extra for shipping. Not everything belongs on OzBargain.

        • @PJC: Thanks for the feedback. Limited edition collector coins are not for everyone. This offer is for those that may wish to purchase this official product and take advantage of free shipping.

        • @DirectCoins:OzBargain is Australia's foremost bargains website. You have not posted a bargain …

          The RRP is $150

          … and you are well aware of that.

        • @PJC: The offer is for free shipping.

        • @DirectCoins: Free shipping on $5 coins priced at $150 comprising $17.20 worth of silver is not a bargain. Not just because I say so, but in over 4 hours your post has only 1 plus-vote. You have joined OzBargain, not OzShipping or OzAdvertising or OzNumismatism. We come here for bargains.

        • @PJC: This product is not for everyone. Thank you for your feedback.

          @PJC:

          Regardless of whether this is a bargain or not. A happy coin collector will pay the price and in years to come have the last laugh when they flog it for $$$ more than they paid for it.

          Agree, not a bargain per se.

          @bricabrac89: Collectable, like Pandora…

    Got excited when price was $5 and then it increased by a mere $145 :)

    • +1

      Inflation can be bad at times!

    • Apologies, $5 is the legal tender amount.

      • So if you went to cash it in as legal tender you would only get $5 for it?.

        • yes, but you'd get more for the silver content, which also is less than $150, which is currently $17.2 an ounce, which is what this weighs. the value is in the condition (Proof) and the rarity, "Maximum Mintage: 2,018"

        • +2

          Yes, but the value is in the fact that it's made of silver, and is limited issue - not in the face value.

          The Royal Australian Mint (government organisation that makes all the coins) mint these coins, and there are only 2018 being produced.

          It's also available direct from the Mint but carries a shipping cost of $10.

          There's also a gold coin for $800 that has free shipping direct.

          @Trantor:
          So the deal is $130 premium because limited edition

        • +2

          @tuzii: pretty much, unlike stamps which you mostly buy at face value, coin collecting has become consumer based and well the only ones making money from it are the mints and the dealers, it's why I stopped collecting.

  • Not a deal, you can get the 2006 version for only $85 http://www.quicksales.com.au/ad/untitled/7689024 :D

    • The mintage for the 2006 coin was 10,000 coins. This release is limited to 2018 coins by the mint.

    … more money than sense

  • It would take many years to make a profit from this.
