Earn up to 100,000 Qantas Points for Joining or Switching Your Health Insurance to Qantas Assure

60

100,000 is the maximum number of sign on Qantas Points that can be earned upon purchase of combined Top Hospital and Top Extras Cover for Couples or Families before 03/04/17. Each Qantas Assure Health Insurance policy (excluding Extras only) has a maximum number of points that can be earned upon purchase, which can be found here. Points will only be awarded to the primary policyholder after the policy has been held for 60 continuous days. Not available to existing Qantas Assure customers.

It's back! Last one was back to Oct 2016. Now looks even better as only 60 days and you can get 100% QF points, instead of 90 days or sth.

I still think is worth it due to the fact I have a $110pm health insurance, so I just joined the top for both, costing $272pm, another $162 for 2 months bringing total $324 extra for 2 months, getting 50,000 bonus QF points, IMO is worth it.

So are you going to switch again after 2 months?

    • Yup, that's what I always do. From Bupa to Medibank, to NIB, to AHM and now this…

      • What about waiting periods on benefits?

        • +1

Your already acquired benefits always transfer with you

I did a quick comparison to my current Health Insurance.

I currently pay $199.60 per fortnight for family top hospital and top extras, with defined benefits (usually pays way more than 75% back).

The comparative policy with QANTAS Aspire is $304.53 per fortnight.

So, if I joined Aspire for the required 60 days I'd pay $899.40 more than my current HI. This values the bonus points at 0.899 cents per point. If I forgot to move back to my previous HI, then over a year QANTAS Assure would be about $2,600 more expensive. Ouch.

A QANTAS Classic reward seat BNE-SYD = 8,000 points, so using the bonus points for this flight would cost ~$72 one way. Current special deals from QF on this route are $115, so some savings to be had. Probably not worth it for the hassle though. YMMV.

I don't think you got your calcs correct.
      You are paying $104.93 p\fortnight more, wouldn't that be around the $104.93*4 = $419.72?

      • yes, you're correct, I made a mistake. Unfortunately, so did you! It's not $104.934, it's $104.934.286=$449.70 :-) But you were much closer than my error (I used 60 days/7 days a week instead of 60 days/14 days per fortnight).

I quoted "around" and used simple maths to simplify things.
All good mistakes happen, just clearing it up so others were not misled by the deal.
Personally I'd rather get these deals via a credit card signup but great deal if you haven't already got private health cover.

    • You won't forget to switch back. Assure are incompetent. I signed up at launch last year. Transferred away the day I got my bonus

    • Hi Tim, Can I ask which health insurance company you are with at the moment?

  • gonna sign in too

  • Is there any reason why you couldn't hold more than one health insurance policy with more than one insurer at a time? Other than the ridiculous expense, of course.

I'm considering taking up this deal for 60 days to get the points but can't be bothered changing from my current insurer than going back again 2 months later.

    • Good question i was thinking of that as well, anyone have an answer ? ;)

I believe you can purchase both policies at one time without issue.

However, if you are looking at the discounted price after ~25% government health insurance discount, I believe it would only apply to one policy. (If you tried to claim for both it would be reversed in your tax return.) Thus, the ridiculous expense may be even greater than you thought.

      Can you have 2 polices?
      - Yes

What if I need to make a claim, that both policies could cover?
      - You get 75% payout from ONE insurer

      Reason?
      - Government regulations

What if it's a claim that only one covers but the 2 policies are similar (eg 2 health insurance policies)?
      - I didn't ask so have no answer

      Source?
      - What I think QANTAS Assure rep told me over the phone

Got quoted $427.89/mth for myself and partner. Can't seem to justify the difference when we are currently paying $170 with BUPA on corporate discount.

    • How much is the corporate discount? 5% or more?

      • don't know, got given that figure when I joined couple of years ago thru my company rep.

Those on couple insurance, wouldn't it be better to get 2 x singles and get the bonus points twice?

    • I think it's because singles bonus pt is only half @ 50K pt maximum. And 2 single policies seem to be a tad more expensive than 1 couple policy.

    Dupe?

Medicare & home dentistry. Door knob & ball of thread. Problem solved.

  • quoted $493, currently pay $367 with defence health. upper level hospital (need pregnancy cover) plus mid level extras.

would get 80k qff points, worth about $800.

if you need to keep it for 61 days it'd cost me $378 extra, plus the hassle. not worth it i reckon.

  • Can anyone clarify if the price they show prior to purchasing includes the government rebate. Ie, if it says $270 for example, will I actually be out of pocket $270, or will the government rebate bring the actual cost down by 25% (or whatever the rebate currently is) to about $200?
