  • Anyone know if this is worth it?

  • ill get at most 25,000 points on basic cover :| thats with the assure app install

    • -4

Wow is that per months? I might just switch if that's the case.

      • haha no just on signup or moving over to them

        • -1

How long did you have to wait to get credited the points?

        • @nightelves:
Pretty sure the T&C's state about 90 days.

    • I quoted for mid to high cover and that only gives me 30,000…

  • Whats the value of QFF points at the moment?

    • +2

1c per points as sold on Ozbargain

  • -3

What a pompous name…. "Hi sir, which fund are you with?" "Qantas Assure"….. :/ "Qantas A Shoe??" "Assure" "I'm Sure"….

  • +6

It looked good UNTIL I saw this:

"Qantas Assure health insurance is issued by nib health funds limited "

    Don't walk, RUN RUN AWAY

As it has been pointed out MANY times in previous deals that Nib has had, they are a very very dodgy health fund.

    • Some of the lowest rebates of all the health funds
    • The only health fund left that has a 'No Gap" policy rather than a "known gap" like all the other funds…..which means you will a)be required to pay the ENTIRE fee of your surgeon, anaesthetist, assistant etc instead of just the gap and then you'll only get a fraction back (not even the full MBS fee!). So that means your out of pocket gap fees will be a LOT HIGHER with Nib often in the hundreds and hundreds of dollars.
    • patients having their surgeries declined last minute as they refuse to cover them for what they deem "non surgical" conditions even though the surgeons insist that is the accepted treatment
    • unethical business practices. Heck they're even involved in cosmetic surgery tourism and all sorts of other shady practices.

I personally would NEVER EVER support their business. Clearly qantas is getting a kickback from Nib while they screw you over, to be offering these incentives.

Here is another article on them:

"Medibank and NIB spruiking some of the worst 'junk' private health insurance policies"

      Don't go to YOUI either!

      Youi - we'll get you

    • +1

And here is the Choice magazine findings on them.
(Note GMHBA improved their policies last year and they now rebate at AHSA rates as a known gap fund so their listing their as one of the worst no longer applies…that title well and truly belongs to Nib!)

      https://www.choice.com.au/money/insurance/health/articles/ho…

      "Worst:
These have more services for which you have to pay extra costs than average, across all funds in 2013/14:
      GMBHA
      NIB."

    • Really ? I thought they were mostly the same for Top Cover policies ?

      • +2

Absolutely not. The level of your cover dictates WHAT you are covered for not how much and how. So top cover might cover you for e.g. your hip replacement BUT when the surgeon, anaesthetist, assistant charge their fees, Nib billing policy is that the patient MUST pay the ENTIRE invoice and then Nib will only pay you back a portion of just the MBS fee. This is unique to Nib, no other insurer does this.

so for a major operation like joint replacements, obstetrics, cardiac etc, your out of pocket fees with them can be in the thousands of dollars…..50%+ more than with other funds…

        Here is another example:

Surgeon cracks down on NIB’s low payments
        http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/health/surgeon-cracks-down-…

    • Before you jump to conclusions, have you actually verified the Assure and the NIB rebates and gaps are the same?
From my conversation with Assure earlier this week, I was under the impression they were different.

  • What is the best health cover company to use then?

    • +2

There isn't one that is "best" as your individual circumstances may vary but there are definitely some to steer clear of in that they are among the lowest paying (and therefore potentially the highest out of pocket fees):

      The ones to avoid

      • Nib
      • Latrobe Health
      • Budget direct
      • Frank Health insurance

(Medibank is now rapidly declining and reaching those above)

Check out some of the smaller funds that are part of the Australian Heatlh services alliance as some of the good funds:

Thanks. I am with medibank and have noticed that they are declining so looking to move.

    • same is the case with me. Will be moving very soon.

  • +1

Switch over, wait for points, switch elsewhere? Isn't that the ozbargain way?

    • that what I was thinking of doing, though I only want the basic cover without extra so trying to find out how much points that would be

  • Any recommendation on which health fund I should move to? Looking at basic hospital and mid or high level extra cover.
I am currently with FRANK and I think they are now quite expensive to go with so would like to find something with better value.

  • Anyone know if qantas assure will be run as a separate entity? (or will you receive an NIB card and speak with NIB call centre)?
Looking to switch from NIB to QA… could get messy

    • This deal is not available for NIB customers.

      • Serious? Is it in the terms&c?

        • +1

          Yes. See above deal description.

  • Note that the 100,000 points is only for TOP level cover which goes into the $1000's. For basic singles cover the bonus points offered to me were only 15,000.

The value for money of the cover itself sucks too, my quote was $200 more than current provider and with less inclusions…

    • Well is quite cheap considering credit cards need spending for $3000 for 50K points. Top hosp and extras is only $273 pm in total for 3 months…

      • +1

when you spend $3000 on a credit card you receive $3000 worth of goods or services in addition to the points.

    • can you see this before paying ? I tried but couldn't see how many points I would get.
[edit : just saw that I won't get any points if I don't get any extra, if I take basic hospital and basic extra I would only get 10k points]
