    3gb ram is nice

16gb flash is kind of eh…

    • +5

Supports microsd so I don't think that's too much of an issue. I have heard people cracking their Xperia phones just by putting them in their pockets though.

      • +3

Is this like their tablets but, where they disabled the expanded internal storage for SD cards?

        • I have no idea and didn't even know that was the case until you mentioned it.

        • +1

@PainToad: I think for some it's just an automatic reaction when they see your username. I don't think its fair to you either.

        • +1

Yep, this phone does not support Adoptable Storage. Although there are ways around this… See here.

        • -4

          @djsweet:

I really hope that someone I was trying to help, but voted me down, brought this phone and enjoys its limited storage.

Although there are ways around this… See here

Lots of reported bugs with this on that thread.

        • +2

          @PainToad:

The sheer volume of downvotes made me laugh - here, have another upvote.

      • +1

Sony happily repairs such cracks as long as they're minor*, though it's sadly through fonebiz - a kinda shady company.

*The cracks most experience are really minor hairline cracks - nothing too serious.

      • Lots of apps don't work with SD storage such as offline Netflix.

        • +1

Can confirm that the latest version of Netflix has the option in the app settings to choose external storage as a download location

      • +1

        You're joking right?

        • Why did you vote Bagit down?

        • +14

@JimmyTheMan: Clean Master is very much spyware. That's one app that everyone does not want to have on their devices.

      • -2

This doesn't just deserve a negative wave of votes, it deserves to be deleted. Jesus christ.

        • +2

          Hi Jesus.

        • -5

          alright m8

        • -4

          What's wrong with clean master?

        • @BagIt: Using programs like this actually make android phones less efficient and most of the time worse than before the use of them. (I could go on with many more reasons but you seem like someone that doesn't favor logic judging by your comments in this deal)
Oh yeah.. and I don't even know why you're suggesting it..

        • +5

@dfaktz: Fair enough, sorry about that.

        • +12

          @BagIt:

          Fair enough, sorry about that

I'm sorry Bagit, but i'm still not happy with how this was resolved.
          Stand back.

          @dfaktz:

Using programs like this actually make android phones less efficient..

Well, you could have said that earlier and we could have avoided this pickle.

I could go on with many more reasons…

No, please don't, Jesus Christ please don't.

… but you seem like someone that doesn't favor logic…

Now dfaktz, or Jesus, or whoever you are, that's just being nasty.
Stop that, and be nice to folk.

How does this phone compare with other similar phones, I mean value for the money?
And their rrp seems over inflated if they can drop from $700 down to $300!

    • +12

Indeed, a quick google shows you can buy them for low $300's everyday

6" is massive, more tablet than phone.

Going to buy a Chinese brand next, superb bang-for-buck, which one though, most likely a XIAOMI.

      • +3

I would do the same but consider the radio bands compatibility with Australia also if you need to travel so you need and international phone.
One only thing I don't like of Xiaomi (like some others) is the in built battery which limits my freedom.

        • +25

One only thing I don't like of Xiaomi (like some others) is the in built battery which limits my freedom.

How on earth does an inbuilt battery limit your freedom?

        • -8

I have Xiaomi Note 3. It is good phone> It got a huge battery and If you don't install a lot of apps and give permission to everything it will easily last you a couple of days. The only problem is wireless connectivity. 5g does not work for me and this is a known problem.

          @Send me ur-deals:

          Because he can't change it

How does it LIMIT his FREEDOM! You can charge your phone on the go with a powerbank, I do it all the time and it doesn't LIMIT my FREEDOM.

And you can change it, just that it's a more involved process that is a tradeoff when you accept a phone that is a few mm thinner and tens of grams lighter.

        • +23

          @imranauz:

5g does not work for me and this is a known problem.

Of course 5g doesn't work for you, the phone doesn't have it and even if it did there isn't a network to use it on!

        • +2

Buy a Xiaomi Powerbank currently on sale. They were made to go together

@dealhunt: Amazing how a simple comment like "It's my choice" earns 12 negative votes. You should see me having a go, it would probably get me 100 negs by this mob.

        • @angre: We live in a democratic country so leave them express their sadness and uneducated mind.
But I also believe they're in business with this deal.
Same thing happens on Reddit, let me try again and see if I get the 100s prize.

        • @Maverick-au:

Well I meant 5Ghz wireless band. It is fine with 2.4 Ghz band.

        • @imranauz: It's a known issue… with Custom ROMs based on Nougat? I'm on a Marshmallow ROM on my RN3P and 5GHz Wi-Fi has all been peachy.

Not sure about MIUI because I haven't used it in ages, but Marshmallow's been great.

      • +3

Go the Mi Max. No regrets. 6.4" and loving it.

        • +1

          That's what she said. ;)

      • +12

If Sony is the same price as Xiaomi then I would buy sony. At least you get future updates of Android and better support in australia in comparison to MI phones.

    • there are a heap of new models from Sony coming out, thats prob why its reduced.

    • +1

Grey market Samsung galaxy A series are bang for buck. More reliable build than xiaomi too.

      • +4

Samsung "A" series appear one step up from the "J" series. I'm assuming the "J" stands for "junk" given the specs of most I have looked at, and the "A" for 'acceptable', but they are nothing to write home about.

        • The price for the build quality is notable. If "a" is for acceptable, then "s" is for standard. I can accept 60% off the price of a standard model for something that does 95% of the job.

        • @freakatronic: Fair enough, but I'm comparing the Samsung standard to my Nexus 6 and Oppo Find - at the similar price point, they are lacking, but hold their price because of brand recognition. Admittedly I got the Nexus at far less than the comparable to S5 price Motorola/Google wanted for it, but feature for feature, you are paying more for a Samsung than many other models, and when it comes to the j and A series, I don't believe the comparative value is there.
I may be biased - my first decent spec phone was a Samsung nexus, taken rather than an S4 as I was expecting to get timely udates. I hadn't counted on Samsung being in the mix and feeding it's updates of 'vanilla' android through the providers and offering no update path outside of those channels unless you rooted, then both Google and Samsung walking away from it 18 months after release. My 2014 Motorola nexus is running official Nougat, the S5 of the time eventually got to Marshmallow - and is staying there.

    • Struggles taking low-light images and 16GB are the only concerns. Good phone otherwise if you can overlook the above.

  • For the spec its price is quite meh. If you want a big phone with decent spec go for xiaomi max

    • Been hanging out for a decent deal on one of these for some time now. Probably missed one.

    • +21

Xiaomi Max has 2 year local Australian Warranty? Or 23Mpix camera? Horses for courses and would prefer the Sony over the Xiaomi any day. Last time I checked, with courier delivery, would cost $300+.

      • +4

Exactly. MI vs Sony. I will pick up the Sony any day.

        • +4

Especially if you care about audio quality.

      • +1

Camera sony wins everything else xioami does. Sure doesn't have two year but one year from reseller. Doesn't bother me got mi max for 260 delivers.

        • -6

Sony has amazing customer service if you have an issue. Xaomi has an Asian man with a box that has a screen printed on it saying hallow?

        • @Slippery Fish: just stating the facts, everyone knows there is a risk buying from overseas.

And my god, that is incredibly racist.

        • -2

@adrianhughes1998: why do you find it racist, its a phone from China hence China support that does not exist.

Just fed up reading xaomi is the only phone to buy being screamed at anyone who belives differant…

        • +3

          @Slippery Fish:

why do you find it racist

Perhaps it's the 'Xaomi has an Asian man with a box that has a screen printed on it saying hallow'?

Not sure what phone you have, but I'd be happy to wager that it was built in China like most phones are.

Then there is the unnecessary dig at their ability to speak English with the 'hallow' crap. Let's see how you do speaking a very different language to your native tongue. However you could argue that's just your bad spelling which is also quite evident. It's "Xiaomi" and "different" by the way.

        • -6

          @IceCreamBandit: lol keyboard warrior…

          Warriors…. Come out to plaay…

Its not racist its how Kim jong il talked in team America, thats the sorta thing I had in my head at the time.

Before drawing sword ensure there is a quest to go on ya knob.

        • +1

@Slippery Fish: you sir are a blithering idiot.

So if one watches a movie and there is racism, must be ok right? Can't believe someone is that stupid to use that as justification.

There are many other brands that come out China - Elephone, Doogee, Leagoo, Oukitel - could go on and on forever. As [@IceCreamBandit] said, most phones are built in a factory in China no matter what brand they are.

        • +1

          @Slippery Fish
hell even the almight iphones are made in china!!!

        • -1

@adrianhughes1998: why stop here you hypocrit, the only way to wipe out racism is to wipe out all but your own race. Is it convenient for you to fight me but at the same time to hard to kill all other races for your greater good.

God I love a good troll.

        • +1

@Slippery Fish: we were all throwing in our opinion about either the Sony or the Xiaomi phones, but YOU, yes YOU had to make the racist comment.

Stand up and take responsibility for your actions, and stop being so immature.

        • -1

@adrianhughes1998: someone had to be first, you cant have racist without race.

You need to settle old man, youll have a heart attack

@Slippery Fish: go be with Pauline Hanson then if you're so into it. No-one on this thread agrees with your bullshit anyway, just like being in the minority and being irrelevant.

        • -1

@adrianhughes1998: lol you must be a little man, I can actualy take one small joke without bending over for the anal insertion of political correctness you seem to love.my joke was barely offencive your just thin skinned.

Ps im one of the least racist people you will actualy meet, unless im trolling people like you for fun.

        • @Slippery Fish: I'm sure you are rolls eyes. I keep getting upvoted and you've been downvoted to the tune of what -10 now?

Love your justification of how you're apparently one of the least racist people, yet you do it for fun as trolling. You ran out of ideas and intelligence long ago.

  • -2

I'll swap my as new iPhone %s for this….any takers?

  • +2

I got one last sale, specs and battery is standard. But what the Sony XA stands out is superb built, feel like a thousand dollar handset and not budget one. Camera also very decent. I'm happy with it.

    • +1

This is probably the best phone for selfie lovers, very little out there matches the front camera especially because it has a front flash.

      • any other phones out there comparable for the selfie crowd?

        • Oppo f1s.no front flash tho.

    • Also worth a mention that the selfie camera is the best in the market.

    • But the case is plastic is that right?

      • +1

Metal casing, not the plastic junk

  • How does the camera compare to the Xiaomi Redmi note 3? Redmi note 3 camera is not good, so looking to change. Thanks

    • +2

cant really compare sony to xiaomi for the camera
You also do realise numerous people have said the redmi note 3 camers sucks in low light

Sony of course is going to be better in camera
Sony build quality might be better
I do also like the Sony themes / OS System

Xiaomi has a better custom rom community / decent amount of support / XDA community
Sony would be a better out the box phone and most likely does Band 28 too

  • +3

This or the moto g4 plus 16gb at officeworks for the same price.. Thoughts? No fingerprint sensor on this is a bummer though..

    • +3

I'm fairly certain that people only buy this phone because of the camera, I bought the Moto G4 Plus because it's a midrange all-rounder that can do quite a lot of things

      • +2

This certainly sums up the debate nice and clean. Completely correct. You can throw Nexus 5X's into that arguement too. If your phone is still going strong, hold out, the end of this year is going to see some pretty nice stuff coming out.. and with that, prices dropping on others.

  • single sim other wise its pretty good

    • +2

In this day and age of unlimited calls and 10gb+ plans for 30 bucks, who the heck needs 2 sims?

  • +7

6 inches screen and 2700 mha battery, good luck

    • +13

Sony has some of the best power saving algorithms by far compared to any other Android brand. a 2700MAH battery will perform better than a 3500mah stuck in a Samsung given the amount of crap that they run in the background processes. The battery capacity is only one indicator - its also about how it gets used and Sony does it very efficiently.
