the best 100% peanut butter out there, would recommend to try it over krafts (especially at this price)
Thanks, might pick some up.
And thanks OP.
better than mayvers?
No.
I tried mother Earth, mayyers and found mayyers to be too salty. I would not touch mayyers again.
Mayver's is the best but this is a close second.
It isn't 100% peanuts.
mayvers isn't or pics isnt?
sounds like the owner of the company XD
A bit runny,
But the taste is great !I love it, similar to Mayver's dark roast but I'll go Pic's over Mayver's if the two were the same price. Or just buy both.
PIc's is pretty mad! but there's another kiwi chilli peanut butter i picked up last time i was there. (happen to be here now) so I'm gonna look for that..
Is Really Good Really Good?
because Kraft is available for $2.30 at WooliesYes, but like any other similar products - because it's almost 100% peanuts - the oil can separate so you have to deal with that by mixing it in or the last of the jar can get a bit dry.
Kraft is full of all sorts of other additives, emulsifiers, sugar and other crap.
Pics (like Mayvers) are peanuts with a little salt and nothing more.
I'm sorry to dissapoint you but Pic's also contains sugar.
How can I be disappointed when I'm right?
I have at least 3 jars in the cupboard, ingredients are peanuts and salt, their website lists and explains all that too.
What about the "natural" variant?
kraft has lots of sugar / cheap oils / low end peanuts.
it's really not a comparison
Sorry but people make a huge deal over nothing when it comes to this sort of thing. 100 grams of kraft peanut butter has only 8.4g of sugar. So if you ate 4.5 tablespoons of it (more than a quarter of the jar), that's less than 2 teaspoons of sugar which is the amount a lot of people have in their coffee 3 times a day.
And if you don't care about what you put into your body, that's your life to ruin.
You don't realise how much garbage is added to many foods - it's not just peanut butter, it's virtually every processed food you can pay less for the shit version or pay a little more to have a product without additives. When you're eating this stuff day in and day out for months, years, decades - that adds up to a big impact on your health.
Most people don't realize what Natural Peanut butter is.
It has NO additives. Most have salt but not all.
Sanitarium Natural has no salt, no nothing except peanuts.
What? I'm replying to someone defending Kraft peanut butter that has added sugar, emulsifiers and stabilisers.
@SamR: >Most people don't realize what Natural Peanut butter is.
Why are you acting as though it's some rare commodity that most people don't know about when it's sold literally right next to the Kraft and every other peanut butter?
Because in every NPB thread we have people interchanging PB with NPB and they are not aware of or do not care about the difference.
NPB is a niche product, it is growing but still niche. Aldi, for example, does not even sell it.
My mistake, I misinterpreted what you said. Thanks for clarifying.
@airal3rt: I agree with you that some foods have a lot of garbage in them but you should also consider the quantum of it. A donut which is made up of 70% sugar and fat is terrible for you.
A jar of peanut butter than lasts you a month and contains a total of 6 teaspoons of sugar in total and 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil is not going to make a material difference to your health.
Think about what you are eating and don't create a paranoid culture where people are afraid of a tiny bit of sugar or 'chemicals'. Kraft peanut butter is perfectly fine for your health.
The whole post that started this was by shrewduser who said "kraft has lots of sugar / cheap oils / low end peanuts. it's really not a comparison". That's a completely unfair statement. One is almost 100% peanuts while the other is 85% peanuts. It's hardly "LOTS" of sugar/cheap oils. 100% peanuts vs 85% peanuts. It's a comparable product. Yes the 100% peanut product should cost more but it doesn't justify being twice the price. That's just marketing hype and people like you that are afraid of every preservative or added sugar content out there regardless of amount.
@G3ck0: Are you saying that if I eat a peanut butter sandwich per day, consuming a whopping 1.9 grams of sugar per day that it is going to ruin my body? Do you realise that a single orange has 9 grams of sugar in it?
Yes and we all know that the body treats the sugar found in fruit the same as refined cane sugar added to processed foods.
In fact that is the basis of all healthy food advice, go cane sugar.
Same with the hydrogenated oils they put in normal peanut butter, why waste time eating better oil, Go hydrogenated with trans fats!
/sarcasm
@SamR: First of all you ignored the essence of my question. Do honestly you think 1.9 grams of added refined/cane sugar in my diet is going to ruin my body? The entire point of my second post was to pay attention to the quantum of these 'bad' ingredients that people see on labels.
Second of all yes the body treats fructose from fruit the same as refined cane sugar. Only difference from eating 9 grams of table sugar and eating an orange is that the sugar from the orange is absorbed at a slower rate due to the fruit's fibre content. This is a moot point though because the fat in peanut butter does the same thing, only better.
Kraft peanut butter's GI is much lower (16) than that of a natural raw orange (45). Therefore the sugar you get from the orange is actually more harmful AND larger in quantity than the sugar added sugar in serve of peanut butter.
Why don't you post something informative and useful instead of sarcastic comments that have no truth trying to scare people into not eating a healthy product.
Some people like the taste of peanut butter with a little sugar in it. In this case kraft peanut butter is a healthy product that needn't be avoided. The health consequences of eating either product are not materially different. Eating a Kraft peanut butter sandwich every day of your life is not going to negatively affect your health in any material way.
A lot of other people prefer the taste of natural peanut butter and that is great too. However, don't try to claim that they are completely different products. One does not deserve to be priced twice as much as the other because of 15% less peanuts.
NPB is not priced twice as much, Pic's is expensive but other brands are pretty much the same price as normal PB.
Not all normal PB is 85% nuts (which is bad enough) the KRAFT Peanut Butter Light is 63% nuts. That is the thinking behind Kraft, light means loading with sugar.
Then there are the hydrogenated oils added with trans fats! They won't even say what sort of oil, probably because it only exists in a lab. Yes more sarcasm.
I don't know about you but I PILE the PB on my toast, I sometimes eat it from the jar with a spoon. So if you want to ingest a bunch of junk food with your health food, go ahead but don't fool yourself. It is just healthier junk food.
Next you will be saying Nutella is healthy and you eat that too.
@SamR: Well I was talking about the normal Kraft peanut butter I didn't defend the light version.
Please do at least some research before you post. The amount of trans fats in a a serving of Kraft peanut butter is less than 0.1g. A tenth of a gram. Again not a material amount that could affect your health. So you know where you can shove your sarcasm.
I never said Kraft peanut butter was health food but it certainly doesn't qualify as junk food.
Nutella is not a comparable product to peanut butter. It is almost 60% sugar. I don't know why you bother to bring up a totally different product. I don't buy nutella but if someone serves me up a Nutella sandwich I will eat it. Yes I do eat junk food from time to time. Never said I didn't. But Kraft peanut butter is not junk food.
Thanks for the frank discussion !
@SamR: Can't tell if /sarcasm or not haha.
also they have a 100% peanuts one too https://www.google.com.au/search?q=peanut+butter+kraft+100%2…
Got some the other day at Coles 1/2 price… Really like the crunchy one. Won't be going back to non %100 nuts now - the taste is much better without the added crap.
It's approx 1000 times better than Kraft.
I'd still take Mayvers, though, which is both better, and cheaper as well. (And comes on special reasonably often so we can stock up.)
Kraft's is disgusting. This stuff is really good.
I prefere pics realy bad oily nut
I saw a few people at the Mardi Gras last night that got nut allergies.
One person was covered in a rash and wheezing everywhere.
Were you on the hunt and got put off. lol
If you have a nut allergy and you buy Peanut Butter, it's really not the manufacturers fault..
Probably not, since peanuts are a legume
Are you saying it's not the nut from a pea plant?
best peanut butter out there; taste and quality.
Call me a sicko but I prefer sanitariums 100% natural peanut butter. Pics was dry and salty.
You sicko!
What an assclown!
I agree, Sanitarium is the best. Once you get used to no salt the others taste different.
Dry & Salty? My jar was anything but
Mayvers is far better than this as it's a little dry for me. Couldn't wait to see the end of it to be honest.
I bought this peanut butter before the Mayvers special, it's very good
Oh cmon not another peanut buter 1/2 price special! Last time i bought a few from the coles special they didnt last the week.
Looks like im nuts. Im going to get those too!
Man I like puns and all but this thread is nuts
Is it nuts to buy cheap peanut butter when my job pays me peanuts?
I find most people who enjoy natural peanut butters gravitate to specific brands. I love Pics the most (the crunchy with salt added one).
this taste great. just finishing my first jar & will definitely grab a couple more now
There was a guy wrote a book about the world's peanut butters. American bloke.
Apparently Kraft and Sanitarium are two of the worst. Apparently it is at least partially if not totally the fault of the Australian consumer who has tended to favour homogeneous peanut butter, meaning the manufacturers use emulsifiers and that is more important than taste.
So I am willing to try anything that's neither of those.
Did that guys make a distinction between the regular PB and the all natural, 100% peanut ones? Because it wouldn't be fair to lump all Kraft and Sanitarium PB's into the same basket, as they both offer the natural varieties without any emulsifiers, sugar etc…
Back to this deal, dunno how I can justify it to wifey that we need more peanut butter after stocking up big from the Mayvers and the natural Sanitarium deal…
What's the difference between regular PB and the natural ones?
Natural ones are comprised of 100% peanuts with natural oils (some like Mayors may add some salt to it) and is considered a health food, whilst the regular run-of-the-mill PB from Kraft and Sanitatrium contains emulsifiers, sugar etc and is more a junk food…
Check out your local health food store.
My parents had one and they did fresh peanut butter in store. Ingredients - peanuts.
Same machine did cashew paste, macadamia paste, almond paste and tahini on different days. Both roasted and unroasted.Tahini they had to add a little olive oil to keep it moving.
Fresh macadamia paste on muffins in the morning…
Sanitarium make a whole range of PBs
Their Natural Peanut butter is the best of all of them, Pics included. Just peanuts and no salt.
The nuts are from Nicaragua a quality producer of peanuts.
Pics use Australian peanuts, IMHO that's another plus for them.
Mother Earth and Mayers also have Australian nuts and are much cheaper. On special both are often $2.50 not $3.75. They are also much cheaper every day.
Pic's is way overpriced for what it is.
Homogenised…
Skippy Crunchy is the way to go
Cover me! I'm going in!
Once I tried Aldi American style smooth peanut butter (blue), all other peanut butter brands died for me…
Is this 100% peanuts? All brands seem to offer that now without the added rubbish that's not needed (emulsifiers, sugar, etc.) - just give it a stir if the oil separates.
Best is to crush your own in a health store fresh, but the 100% peanut varieties are good enough for me.
rubbish … emulsifiers
You understand that emulsifiers are often 100% natural things like lethicin right?
It's rubbish in the sense that it is not needed. If I buy peanut butter I want… peanuts, preferably a little bit crushed.
And re your comment - the jury is still out on a lot of relatively benign additives - including thickening agents and emulsifiers - and their impact on health (particularly on the microbiome). It doesn't matter what their source is… the fact that it might be "natural" - i.e. once appeared in nature, and now is extracted from its original source - doesn't make it good for you.
@Diij1
You understand that "100% natural" has no bearing on safety and is a completely meaningless phrase right? I can take some "100% natural" toxic nightshade plant and blend it through your food and you won't have any issue with that because it's natural? Judge food additives on their individual safety profile not some arbitrary dichotomy of natural/synthetic, or better yet avoid food additives all together. There is simply no compelling reason to consume food additives when alternatives without them exist.
Food companies love adding this shit to your food because it extends shelf life and therefore their profits, they don't care about the long-term impact on your health.
In terms of calories, have anyone compared kraft peanut butter vs 100% peanut butter?
I find that I'm applying more 100% PB compared to kraft. Maybe coz kraft has more salt and sugar?
How does this stuff compare to Aldi's American Style? It is just delicious.
For anyone who buys Pics, when finished, soak the empty jar in hot water.
The label will come off easily allowing for easy re-use of the jar.
… and there are often poems or coupons on the back. While I presume you have to present the coupons to them in NZ, its still worth noting.
i find it impossible to get all the peanut butter out of a jar. boiling hot water and fairy liquid left all day (multiple times) doesn't do it. what's your secret?
I never have a problem with that, if anything at the end of the jar it's a bit dry and sticky so even the last dregs come out really easily.
I put it in the dishwasher.
Amazing peanut butter for this price. It was our favorite when we loved in NZ. I think the About Life made in store peanut butter rivals it and is cheaper normally. But for this price you can't beat it.
I love PB, try the Sanitarium didn't like at all. Now I'm having Kraft Crunchy PB taste pretty good.
I'll give this a try as well. Cheers.Don't forget to check for the hidden coupons on the inside of the label!
Excerpt from the e-mail when I asked how the coupons work:
"You’ll find one of the following icons on each PB coupon: Concrete mixer, Caravan, HQ Holden, Fido, Whistle, Plane, Morris Minor, Chicken, Hat, Boat, JandalIf you collect coupons with the same 5 icons you will get a 380g jar with your choice of smooth or crunchy PB and a wooden Pic’s PB spreader! -OR- Collect 10 of the same icons to get an awesome Pic’s pack including a 1kg tub of crunchy PB and a spreader!"
Mayver's Roasted and Pic's are my 2 faves

Most peanuts sold in Australia come from China… eat at your own risk!!!
Oh nooo… What do I eat now?
Reese's peanut butter is glorious… unfortunately has now been taken off the supermarket shelves. Likely didn't sell well because it was so expensive.
It's cheaper just to buy a bag of Homebrand Salted Peanuts and eat them dry on white bread while sobbing about your poverty.
good alternative to Mayver's - Practically perfect in every way :)
Misleading title, when I saw "½ Price Pics" I got excited and turned the lights down and pulled my credit card out.
Peanut Butter though so not totally disappointed, and they use Aussie nuts.
Anybody tried this and can comment on quality?
