Spiegelau Beer Classics IPA Glasses - Pay for 4 Get 6 for $47.97 (Was $79.95) Click & Collect / In Store @ Myer

41

Seems to be part of the Myer Super Saturday sale. These glasses are great for enjoying many types of beer from but they're specifically designed for drinking IPA (India Pale Ale).

I did a price comparison with a few other stores:

$39.99 for two glasses @ Dan Murphy's
$69.99 for the buy 4 get 6 deal @ Kitchen Warehouse
Average price on Amazon US looks to be around USD$50 + shipping

Other Spiegelau beer glasses are also on sale if you search the Myer site but this set looked like a particularly good deal.

I have these, they get great reviews, but placebo effect anyone?

    • It's likely just the head of the glass is wide enough to fit your nose in. the hoppy smell does affect how your brain will perceive you tasting it (though "better" is arbitrary/subjective).

    • Yeah, see my comment below. They're just nice beer glasses if you don't already have a good set at home.

Video here if you want to understand the designers' decision making process for the glass: https://youtu.be/YVxMf7DVoDo

  • I just use a large 600ml or so sized wine glass for india pale ales, porters and amber ales that taste nice with a frothy head and aroma, i doubt it makes any difference.

  • The only reason I didn't neg such bulls**t as 'IPA Glasses' is that my Sierra Nevada branded glass is almost exactly the same shape … so maybe there is actually something to it.

But like the post above, I generally prefer large red-wine type glasses for IPAs.

    • The guy who founded Sierra Nevada was one of the two brewers consulted when the glass was designed. Plenty of craft beer gift packs have these exact Spiegelau glasses in them; just branded with whichever beer they come with.

Anyhow, I don't really buy the marketing spin behind it all. The Spiegelau Witbier and Stout glasses don't really look much different to the IPA one and I'm sure they do the same job of aerating the beer as you drink and amplifying the aromas.

These are just good quality glasses that have enough room for some of the larger canned craft beers you can buy. If you already have some nice 500mL+ glasses at home, you probably don't need these.

      • If that's the case, I guess mine is exactly the same shape as these. :)

Sorry to neg, but I've bought a fair few of these and you can normally find them cheaper - they're currently $39 for 6 from Peters of Kensington, which is their usual price. Free Click and Collect or $7 postage. Victoria's Basement usually do the same, but appear to be out of stock at the moment.
