Insane to install, not even for a handyman
I think he means it doesn't need to cost minimum $500 - $1000 to install, like a split system does, since you can just stick it in a window or hole in the wall, with some work.
Strictly install related, not performance, or noise or whatever else. Id much prefer to install one of these myself, than a split. I have done several in the past without issues. That and I believe its a legal requirement for splits to be installed by qualified professionals.

No, a tradesman will do fine.
Its not terribly hard, but needs some skill and the right tools, including a vacuum pump.@manic: Whats the hair youre trying to split here? That it can be done by a motor mechanic, or a boiler maker, or maybe a plasterer?
There is a refrigerant licence, and unless that licence is held by a sparky, you need one of them too.
Just grumbling over the over-use of the word "professional" . It does not take an engineer.
@manic: Meh, a pro boxer is a professional … rarely a genius. I say let the lower classes have it what. Much like Mensa.
Got vertically sliding windows? It's a breeze.
Horizontally sliding windows? Look elsewhere.
No problem. You just need to fill the gap above the aircon.
You can even put these in a rental, and take them when you go. Does need a minor bit of handyman skill.Got vertically sliding windows? It's a breeze.
Horizontally sliding windows? Look elsewhere.
That makes absolutely NO sense.
It is exactly as easy to install in one compared to the other, and both need an equal amount of DIY to fill in the remaining area of the window.
Not sure about kelvinator anymore, it has only 2 years warranty compared to teco and midea that offer 5 years warranty, plus this model is just cooling. I got the Midea reverse window model 2.23 cooling and heating for $550 brand new from 2nds world.
Have this model and it's run flawlessly for 2 summers now and gets a heavy workout as we are in northern Vic, where it gets quite hot.
Install is easy, but that's all going to depend on where you put it and what's there already.
I was lucky as it fit in my window with weather strip around it and it took 10 minutes to make a frame with legs for it to stand on.
Was in another room/window originally and install was easy too with the same base, but there was a gap to the side as the window was wider, but a sheet of wood and weather strip fixed that.
Plugs into the power point in the room, so no electrician needed.Edit, noise is not an issue. I'm a shift worker and it doesn't bother me. Doesn't sound too bad outside either.
"Doesn't post to NSW Regional" damn.
easy to install ?? link please
