My advice is to buy the SC as you can probably have no use for the RGB lighting and 13mhz in clock speed in boost mode.
Also you can overclock yourself, just pray to the silicon lottery gods and go spend the extra $45 on ozbargains while overclocking.

3yr international warranty

Record low according to CAMELCAMELCAMEL for new instances of this item.
To Sydney for me it was $559.89 + $13.96 Shipping & Import Fees Deposit to Australia
Works out around ~$750 through google currency converter so may be out $10 if you choose to pay in AUD.

Very cheap and signalling that new cards(1080TI) are on the horizon but that also means the 1080 is heaps cheaper by $100USD

EVGA has 3yr international warranty so no issues there.

From website:
EVGA does offer global warranty on all current products regardless of where it is purchased from and where you reside.
Details of the warranty policy within your region can be found here http://au.evga.com/support/warranty/.
If warranty services are needed you can submit a support ticket or email our support team directly at [email protected]

vBios update does surely increase fan noise but if you have a loud aftermarket CPU cooler it makes no difference. Rather that than a silicon doorstop.

For cooling issues request a FREE cooling mod here: You can request here: http://www.evga.com/thermalmod/

Great price, just be aware of cooler issue (and may be the reason for price drop).

(I thought) Read below for more details.

Issue has already been fixed. All card shipped from November 1 last year had the VBIOS update. This model is covered.

      Source:http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/evga-gtx-1080-1070-overheating-issue/ and many others

Note that all graphics cards shipped after November 1 will already have the VBIOS update intact.

Here is a list of cards supported by the update:

      GTX 1080 Part Numbers
      08G-P4-6181
      08G-P4-6183
      08G-P4-6284

      ARRRHHH,
damn EVGA, just as i got my new 1070 ACX SC they do a new replacement program… :(

    • +1

1080ti announcement on the 28th. That could also be the reason.

  • +2

The BIOS update just changes fan profile so it will be noisier.

At the very least get the thermal pads as well

    http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/2668-how-to-install-therma…

    • True. However it is the cheapest price I've seen apart from $722 for Phoeonix EOL ones I found on MSY that were extremely limited stock.

    • +1

vBios update does surely increase fan noise by changing fan curve but if you have a loud aftermarket CPU cooler it makes no difference. Rather that than a silicon doorstop.

  • +2

VBIOS update fixed the issue? Speeding up the fans isn't a fix to a design flaw. They are just getting rid of old stock.

    • Agreed, probably clearing for new 1080's ICX's so not selling both concurrently.

      • +1

I got a brand new 1080 FTW a month ago. It did not include the thermal pad mod installed. The vbios was up to date though.

          From the page:
Optional EVGA Thermal Pad Mod Request

The test used in the referenced review from Toms Hardware (Germany) is running under Furmark, an extreme usage case, as most overclockers know. We believe this is a good approach to have some idea about the graphics card limit, and the thermal performance under the worst case scenario. EVGA has performed a similar qualification test during the design process, at a higher ambient temperature (30C in chamber) with a thermal coupler probe directly contacting the key components and after the Toms Hardware (Germany) review, we have retested this again. The results in both tests show the temperature of PWM and memory is within the spec tolerance under the same stress test, and is working as originally designed with no issues.

With this being said, EVGA understands that lower temperatures are preferred by reviewers and customers.

During our recent testing, we have applied additional thermal pads between the backplate and the PCB and between the baseplate and the heatsink fins, with the results shown below. We will offer these optional thermal pads free of charge to EVGA owners who want to have a lower temperature. These thermal pads will be ready soon; and customers can request them starting Monday, October 24th, 2016. Also, we will work with Toms Hardware to do a retest.

  • From http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/2668-how-to-install-therma…
The thermal mod kit from EVGA includes two thermal pads, for which we have specified the dimensions below (width/height), a tube of thermal compound, and some instructions. That kit is provided free to affected EVGA customers, but you could also buy your own thermal pads (~$7) of comparable size if EVGA cannot fulfill a request.

Bring on the GTX1080 deals, been waiting since Nov16

    • holy crap, same here man, I already got the 32gb ram ready just waiting on the 1080 …. tbh I never thought I would afford and enjoy a 1080, only ever thought about mid range GCs, haha times are changing fast.

      • +1

Just received my 1060… and I was waiting to pull the trigger on that since release. Since I only game on 1080p, that's as high as I'm willing to go. Indeed, I think this is the most expensive video card I've ever purchased. My sweet spot is around the $150 mark…. Except for a $200 one maybe 10 years ago.

  • +2

Typical, just after I've ordered a 1070 Watercooled the 1080s start dropping in price

    • Bad luck mate :P
Another example of market price skimming and technology advancement.

"Moore's law refers to an observation made by Intel co-founder Gordon Moore in 1965. He noticed that the number of transistors per square inch on integrated circuits had doubled every year since their invention. Moore's law predicts that this trend will continue into the foreseeable future."

At least you can count on the fact everybody's tech will be obsolete in a few years time.

      • I'm not worried about it as these aren't Watercooled

Also I'm waiting for the day I can drive 3 x 27" 1440p ultra, preferably from a single card

        • Few years from there imho. But we are currently limited by refresh rate 60Hz of the monitors as well as GPU. I don't mind SLI as it gives you extra upgrade room if you have the PSU wiggle room but historically more than 2 sli/crossfire gives diminishing returns and GTX 1080 only supports 2 way SLI.

        • Well we have 1440p 144Hz monitors now. But I'm guessing at least 3 years until we have GPU to support that. But I'll be happy with my setup now until then.

If it makes you feel any better it's expected the 1080 Ti will be announced next week too :)

      • +1

Yeah lets wait and see on the 28th :)

  • +1

Everyone keeps talking about 1080ti but Mark my words 1080ti will be at least $1500. Not even in a comparable prove range.

    • Common sense prevails. Will not even equate to a discount if they are not in same price range which they shouldn't be.

  • Must resist and wait for Vega.

  • Meh… will wait for Vega. Even if it costs more, it'll still probably save me lots when picking up a new monitor with freesync instead of GSync

    • Vega may be cherry picked bechmarks or a card only good at benchmarking again. All speculation too. Of course I still want competition and am rooting for underdog.

    • +3

Same, although it's Freesync 2 now… always something new around the corner. Either way Vega will hopefully put price pressure on rip-off merchants nVidia.

  • +1

A wise man once said: Best time to upgrade is never.

  • Shipping dates have now changed to 2-4 weeks instead of 1-2days Getting Ozbargained guys! On mobile so cannot edit.

  • Any good 1070 deals? :)

      • Thanks mate! I noticed that the SC Black version is slightly cheaper, what's the difference between the two? Is it just a colour option? Hopefully this stock doesn't have any issues and it is new stock from the factory.

        • +1

Go sc it has a backplate.

  • +1

Works out around ~$520 shipped. Didn't check postage but used my gtx 1080 postage price to estimate.

  • This is just confirmation 1080 TI is on the way.

    • +2

I said that in Nov16 too just before CES dropped…3 months later…still waiting

    • They are clearing these for ICX model imo.

  • vega any time soon?

    • AMD is hosting an event at Game Developers Conference, on the 28th of February called Capsaicin & Cream. It is expected that they will announce more Information on Vega.

They have previously stated that Vega will be released 1H 2017.

  • International warranty, sounds good. Where do you post it to?

    • Straight to home cost me less than the parcel point oddly enough.

      • I mean where do you post it to for warranty repairs should the need arise

        • EVGA provides repair centers throughout the world headquartered in: Brea, CA, USA; Munich, Germany; Taipei, Taiwan.
          http://au.evga.com/support/warranty/
EVGA will pay for return shipping on RMAs via EVGA’s choice of courier and shipping method.
EVGA recommends shipping via UPS, DHL, or FedEx and to always purchase insurance to protect your investment.

I have a friend working in IT who uses EVGA cards for all his computers in ridiculous water cooled 8k builds.
I have owned EVGA's before in Titan Black's and they were great.
          Software support is very good.

        • @Levity:
When they say they'll pay for return shipping, does that mean that they will pay both ways or do you pay to send it to Taiwan and they just pay to return it to you after they repair it?

Always been curious about this. I should probably just ask them I guess.

        • @picket23: Yeah I would like to know too.
