  • Thanks MiCCAS and skinny, let me just quickly edit my post ;)

    • Good work! :)

  • Ty, just what i needed too

  • Do you think the $10 difference is worth it compared to the Seagate deal by mln? (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/26435) I feel that WD is better than Seagate in terms of durability.

    • Everyone seems to have differing opinions on the two brands. Some have bad experiences with WD, some with Seagate. Considering they are the two largest manufacturers of hard drives, it's hardly surprising.

I wish I had been able to get the $69 Seagate drive, but Officeworks wouldn't pricematch it here in Sydney. The mln deal was out of the ordinary, I think, and I'm just going to ignore those people who say that $59 is standard because they got some random iomega drive. $79 seems to be a bit lower than average right now for 500GB, but only a bit.

If you can pick up, fluidtek has been selling 500gb samsung portables for $85, sometimes $80 for a number of months now. And I recently noticed that ITEstate is selling the 640gb version for $91. Both shops are in NSW. I haven't had personal experience with the Samsungs, but I haven't heard complaints about them either.

What I'm worried about is the WD Scorpio Blue drive. I've heard that it goes to sleep very often, and I'm not sure if that's a problem or not. It would be great if anyone who's had experience with it could chip in. Cheers

      • i bought the same a few months ago in perth for $79 without case… have installed it in my macbook pro, using it intensively for video work, absolutely no problems so far, silent and suprisingly quick even compared with my 3.5in external WD 7200rpm ;)

  • i got mine without case (i use a hdd dock) for $60 but this is a great deal with a case

    • where did u get it for $60?

  • Thanks matey! (grabbed)

  • These drives are almost 3 years old, keep that in mind before rushing off to get one. The price is also not much of a deal. http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=500gb+scorp…

    • From what I can see, they were released around September 2008, making them less than 2 years old, and many sites in Australia didn't list them for sale until 2009.

I think the deal is also quite reasonable as it includes free shipping and an Astone ISO Gear 282 Case which goes for about $20.

  • This work in a ps3

    • Yes it does, I have one in my PS3.

  • So you just take it out of the case and put it in your ps3?

    • Yep, pretty much. I remember the PS3 has the upgrade procedure in the manual. The only thing I had a problem with was the correct naming of a folder, which was easily solved via google.

Thanks for this deal, just bought one.
I miss out on these bargains during the week because I'm pushed to work my ass-off every day and it's too late when I get home.

  • So they are made in 2008? Are there any other drives for the ps3 made in 2010?

    • They weren't necessarily - and probably not - made in 2008, although they were first released in 2008.

I somehow don't believe that with already 1600 click-throughs and product still available at that price. The drive is also advertised on the website homepage.

  • Very nice deal. I'm impressed.

  • Has anyone received a tracking number yet?

    • no tracking number here, a little unimpressed with the response so far.

  • still waiting on mine here

  • No tracking number as well. Still waiting. Service is bit slow.

  • So I contacted them and they promised to send the drives on fri - today is sunday and there is still no tracking number. I am having my doubts now that they will honour this deal.

  • Still no tracking number. If they don't want to honour the deal, just refund and let people know. Why need to keep silenced. These people are really doggy.

For goodness sake people. All orders have been shipped last Friday. Ordinarily we send tracking numbers for all purchases, in this case we have not due to the extremely large amount of orders and additional manual labor involved in sending them out. (we have no automated system of doing so as yet).

Can I clarify a couple of things with you all, Firstly this deal has been available for 3 months, nobody noticed it till last week. When our stock was input for this promotion (3 months ago), a limit was not set in our system to stop the promo after a certain number of units. All of a sudden, someone notices the promotion 3 months later, we got flooded with sales and lost around $1600 due to the fact we had to re-order to honour the sales. (Yes WE lost $1600).

Lastly, building 200+ external HDDs does take time, not to mention packing and sending the units.

All orders have been sent. Sydney Metro orders will arrive tomorrow. Melbourne Wednesday …

Well that's your problem if you lost $1600 because of a mistake on your part. No need to go ranting on about it here — very unprofessional. Most likely you have got some or all of that money back already with free promotion on OzB and new customers on your mailing list.

How hard is to send an email to your customers to let them know that there will be a slight delay in shipping? Most people will understand and appreciate the good communication on your part. Most will be waiting 10 days or more for their order to arrive — way to long without some kind of communication on your part with your customers.

That's today's lesson in customer service. Feel free to share it with your colleagues.

With your kind of response above, it's very unlikely I will be shopping at JJ again.

      Hey mate,

I just wanted to put my 2 cents worth in here (hope it's ok!) - you've probably noticed a lot of people have been saying things regarding the products they purchased.

I think the issue is that they've all paid money, and felt like they weren't going to receive the goods. It's perfectly understandable that you had to reorder some hard drives, and they were at a loss to your business. I can't tell you how much of a great opportunity you have to say to people - "Hey, we screwed up - but we're a great company, and we're not going to let you guys miss out!". And just explain to people that they aren't going to get a tracking number due to the volume of shipments, but they can be assured it would be sent Friday, and to contact you if they don't receive them by the end of next week.

People aren't complaining about your good actions, they're only worried as there was no communication (as far as I can see). They don't know unless you tell them!

      Michael.

      • We have promptly replied to ALL emails and ALL phone calls in regards to the matter. We were not subscribed to this thread, nor were monitoring it until yesterday. If people have a question, they can always ask. When they do they receive a prompt and accurate response - either by email or telephone.

        • May i suggest you subscribe to all your threads its a great way of monitoring your customers

        • -1

I'm referring to everyone saying "no tracking number" - as far as they assume, they're used to tracking numbers from your company, and as you didn't supply it they think you haven't shipped the item. There's nothing wrong with not sending the tracking number, but you should post a message here.

I know that it was your first post in this thread, but you didn't need to arrogantly complain at your customers - just a simple, "sorry! But it's on it's way!!" would have sufficed.

          • @MiCCAS: "I know that it was your first post in this thread, but you didn’t need to arrogantly complain at your customers - just a simple, “sorry! But it’s on it’s way!!” would have sufficed."

What? Did you read my last post. We did not post this deal. No-one from junglejumble, or anyone associated with junglejumble posted this deal. NO-ONE.

And to all the customers who asked via email or telephone - a "sorry, it is on its way" is what they got.

Again. We were not following this thread, we were not subscribed to this thread, we only became aware of the complaints about lack of tracking numbers yesterday when we FIRST subscribed to this thread.

            • @junglejumble: The first thing I see when I go to the JJ website is the $79 500GB portable drive special — even though it's been unavailable for several days.

If it's out of stock and you're losing money at that price and it's obviously not going to be restocked, take the bloody thing off the front page of your website!

Good to see your response mate. Thanks for that.

The fact that you guys are trying to honour the deal even at lost to your business means you are good people.

However, I agree with others here. Probably, next time you should have some sort of communication. If not through email, then try to post it on the ozbargain forum then.

Hope my next order with you guys will be a better experience for both sides.

  • Received it yesterday, all good thanks
