OP: what do you need so many for? I bought 8 cans of degreaser a while back on a supercheap special. After degreasing my project car, a little squirt and hose on oil spills when changing my oil on our 2 regular cars, i still have 6 cans 2 years later

What made you buy 8 cans of degreaser? ;)

        Ozbargain

    • Meh it's a really good price so why not buy in bulk?

    • +2

Brake cleaner is a completely different product to degreaser.

      • Randomninja also uses degreaser for brakes :)

if you were a real grease monkey you wouldnt be asking that question ;)

you can never have enough brake cleaner

      • Well im not.. i have 2 cars i maintain myself after hours from my white collar job and a project that hasnt wasted away to rust.

Am a real mechanic, and can confirm, can never have enough brake cleaner… problem is, I don't know why they call it brake cleaner as that's seldom what I use it for…

It should be called, sump gasket/head gasket/rocker gasket/any gasket surface cleaner, cause that's where 90% of mine ends up… :D

    • In the last 5 years I can safely say I've used at least 15 cans of degreaser.

This happens when you own a classic car and a classic bike and do all your maintenance.

This stuff is good, have a couple cans kicking around. Cuts through most crap but an old toothbrush will help it out immensely, cans last a fair while too. Perfect for cars with those ******* euro style pads which just spew out dust.

  • I just bought a can of this 2 weeks ago and price was $7 and some change. I guess it makes working on your car a bit easier and faster as you can clean things in no time and it evaporates without leaving anything behind, however if you really want to be a tight arse you can just use some soapy water and a clean rag

  • Anyone have any experience with that tool chest/trolley on the same page? It's probably big enough for my tools as I don't have that much, 99 sounds cheap as the smallest one at bunnings is about 400 for the top and bottom but is 7 drawers

    • I have seen these in store and the are small and crappy, but if you don't have many tools and your gentle it might be ok. Very light too so when you open a drawer you need another hand to steady it.

      • Hmm, might pass, although if I head in for the brake cleaner will have a look

I love the smell of brake cleaner in the morning

    • it smells like victory.

      • And Donald J. Trump.

  • Pretty good for bicycle maintenance too.

Always cleaning disks and contamination is a lot more of an issue

  • Does brake cleaning stop the squeeking?

      grease stops the squeeking

I don't know if you are serious or not, but really bad advice, but almost the right advice at the same time…

No, grease around brakes is a bad idea. BUT! You can put a small amount on the slides on the caliper. Brake squeal is usually the brake pad vibrating at a really high frequency.

There is a product that you can use that may stop it. Just google anti brake squeal and it will come up.

Don't use grease unless you know what you are doing and where to put it…

        grease stops the squeeking braking

        fixed

      • Perhaps your brake pads are worn out.
