    Nice little laptop.
My daughter loves the one I got her last time this deal was on

    • +4

Looks like a nice unit. Decent CPU for everyday tasks. Got the newest integrated graphics, which can decode x265 and play some old games. The 128GB SSD is very attractive too.
      Wish I needed a new, throw-about.

  • +3

above 300 which means u can claim GST if you travel :)

    • -3

How do you claim GST? Can we do it online?

      • +2

Seriously….i mean Australia is a great country(except for the GST part), but you still need to get out and explore other countries sometimes too.

        • +8

          o…other…countries?

        • +2

          @Balls: Yeah like Tasmania.

        • What about the GST? Would you rather go back to all of the tariffs, duties, and 22% 32% sales tax?

      • is it true u cant claim gst at airport beacuse you brought the product online?

        • +1

You can claim GST as the product isn't exactly "bought online".
And yes, you paid the money to Ebay, but it's not recognised as an ebay transaction either.

In short, you will get an invoice from ebay, a receipt of payment from paypal, and a whole lot of other stuff. Just ignore all those.

A few days after your ebay purchase, DELL would contact you via email about your purchase.
When you receive the laptop, dell would again contact you and send you a tax receipt (no relation to ebay at all).

        • @bsmksg: wow mang thanks too that actually helped a lot but too bad im going japan next week :(

    • Perhaps not:

      Item location:
      Dell Overseas Factory, Malaysia

      • +1

The computer is indeed made and sent from Malaysia, but the order is paid to Dell Australia and the invoice includes GST, so no problem claiming under the TRS.

  • +1

It seems like a great little machine for the price. I would buy one if only the screen was a little larger and 1080p. Perfect for basic use.

    • +13

and it wouldnt be that price

  • Damn. Was hoping to get one in white but already sold out :(

  • Easy to upgrade RAM, SSD?

  • very happy with the one I got last time, expect for the touchpad, which is absolutely terrible

  • For the tech savvy, is this laptop just as good as a low end i3 cpu with standard sata drive?

    • +3

Nah, the cpu in it is a glorified ATOM chip.

Not to say it's not a good cpu, it does the job fantastically for what I use it for but just don't expect it to be as snappy as an i3.
By sata drive I take it you mean just a normal HDD? In which case this is miles ahead. The SSD really makes a world of difference.

    • +2

It will be much snappier than a laptop with HDD because it has an SSD but the CPU is nowhere near as good as an i3. Still good for general use though.

  • ordered, thanks op

  • +2

Can anyone please tell me if this laptop has Hackintosh potential (installing OSX Sierra).
If so, is it doable for novices?

  • +1

I just purchased this from the last deal. I have to agree the touchpad and screen aren't great. They could have also colour-coded the USB 3.0 port so you could quickly identify which one was USB 3.0. A built-in ethernet port would have also been nice.
However, no regrets at all .. for the price, it's an overall very nice unit. I am dual booting Windows 10 and Linux Mint.

Oh, and some info for anyone that wants to upgrade its internals … there is 1 covered screw on the underside of the unit. Right in the middle, you need to remove the small round disc. It can easily be missed, as all remaining screws are exposed.

  • +1

Glad to see this little beast is back!

I bought mine last time around and it's been great.
Just be wary about the quality of the screen though, don't go expecting amazing colours and viewing angles as the panel in these are pretty average.

Apart from the screen though, this is a perfect little unit for when I plan to go overseas later on the year and then it'll serve me as a couch laptop. :)

  • Silly question, will this "video out" to a 1080p TV with 1080p resolution or will be limited to its native resolution?

    • +1

It will be fine, I hook it up to my TV and playback 1080p with no issues.

    • +1

Hooking up at both ends (laptop and TV) with an HDMI cable: it should be able to output at 1080p no issues.

  • Completely non-sarcastic question.

I use my Surface Pro 2 mainly on the toilet and bedroom to watch videos and browse the net. Is this a decent replacement size wise? My Surface is slowly dying otherwise I'd be perfectly happy with it.

    • +1

I would assume the keyboard is not detachable.

    • +1

Not quite, as the screen resolution is a few levels below.

    • +1

I would restore the Surface to factory defaults and install updates. Might be ok after that.

      • Thanks, I'll give it a go.

    Out of stock!

  • +1

Does anyone know when they usually restock? Keen to pickup a white one if it goes back in stock.

  • +1

Yea gone now :( do they ever restock during the sale period?

  • I had the last blue one in my basket but by the time I had paid - poof, gone.
Had to get a red one instead but still happy.

  • Out of stock but just out of curiosity does it have touch screen option

    • No

  • Bought one a few weeks back when it was on and in white.
My review, great little machine for the money, if you need something like this dont hesitate.

One question though does it have a hidden partition because it comes with no manual or Windows CD or motherboard drivers.
What happens if you need to reinstall?

    • +2

Yes it has but you can also download the OS Recovery Image from Dell:
      http://www.dell.com/support/home/au/en/aubsdt1/product-suppo…

It's 6.37GB and needs to be downloaded to the laptop, uses Dell System Detect to verify the right image.

So you can recover the space for your own use if you want to and just use the recovery image if you ever need to nuke it back to factory default.

Easier just to image the SSD and keep it somewhere then you can restore it if necessary.

Just upgraded mine to Win10 Pro so I'll be nuking the recovery partition and reinstalling from a normal Win10 ISO if I ever need to.

      • Thanks, Have AOMEI backupper so will take an image, but how do I install from the hidden partition thats on the SSD?

Is it tapping a certain key on boot up?

        • Tap either of the following keys while the Dell logo is on screen:
          F2 - BIOS
F12 - Boot options USB, HDD, Diagnostics, etc

Might have to tap a few times to hit the right time.

Could also be Control+F11 - seems to be a common Dell recovery key combo.

Guess I'll have to read the manual gasp … or I could just nuke the recovery partition …. hmmm … hard choice …

EDIT: Seems to be a BIOS update since I got mine.

    • There should be an option for you to create a recovery media. I created one on a USB drive, that I can use to restore the laptop to factory settings.

EDIT: In the search box in the taskbar, type "recovery", the choose "create USB recovery". The USB drive should be at least 16gb.

  • +3

they just restocked, got a white one :)

  • Back in stock.

  • Would you know if I can install Windows 7 on this? Some of my legacy applications do not like Windows 10..

    • Windows 7 drivers are listed on the Dell Download site so I would assume so….

  • +1

Thanks OP, bought a red one.
    Purchase History ATOR:
    White: 24 sold
    Blue: 38 sold
    Red: 38 sold

    Go team Red!

  • Sweet as! Got a white one after restock. Got 1TB SSD and 8 gb ram ready.

  • +1

Great little unit for the money, boots up in seconds with the SSD, great for an inexpensive laptop for trips & holiday's …which I why I purchased one. No big loss when overseas, unlike my MB Air!. Paid $349 so $319 is a very good deal!!.

  • Awesome little laptop, bought one in the last sale. However does anyone else have or has had a stuck pixel on their screen? I'm not sure how to fix it. Anyone else had any experience with stuck pixels?

  • Got one from last deal, nice unit for my wife to watch movie and YouTube.

  • Can anybody point me to a suitable second AC charger?

  • Thank you, guys. Just bought the white one.
I was using a Toshiba 2 Chromebook for the last 13 months. Last month the battery died (it was sudden, the battery was working perfectly until then) and I could only use the Chromebook plugged. Toshiba didn't want to take any responsibility because I bought from Amazon and the 12-month warranty had expired two weeks before the problem. I contacted Amazon, which amazingly gave me a full refund (probably because I buy lots of stuff from them). I sent the Chromebook ten days ago, and last week I got my refund, which I will use to pay this Dell. I believe that Chromebooks have a good potential after the introduction of Play Store, but not yet. I use the personal laptop for browsing and MS office edition, so I believe this Dell is a good option.

    • -1

screen will look like dirt compared to the toshiba chromebook 2 unfortunately.

      • :(

Probably still worth the money, though…

  • hi guys. i have a samsung 900X ultrabook, i5-3317 CPU @ 1.70Ghz processor with 120 gb ssd. Purchased in 2012 but now battery is pretty weak. I was wondering if the dell would be a good upgrade for my ultrabook? I need it for office applications, some basic softwares and internet surfing. thanks!

    • +1

It wouldn't be an "upgrade" in the true sense of the word but it will cope well with all the requirements you've listed. That said, the screen size is only suitable for occasional word processing unless you have great eyes that you're prepared to ruin. You'll also want to upgrade the RAM to 8GB ($40 used or $80 new on eBay).

      • Thank you for the feedback..

      • Is it still under warranty if I change it?

        • Usually if the upgrades are user installable, the warranty should still apply where it's not directly affected by the upgraded parts. eg screen's backlight, USB ports not working etc.

    • +2

Downgrade in terms of processing performance, keyboard, build quality, and display. You should be able to replace the battery yourself for around $50, such as here. Obviously not an original battery, but should have pretty close to/identical capacity to the original (has a one year warranty anyway).

  • White was out of stock for a while there, but now back. So ordered one. Should be good for the kids. And I can't resist anything with an SSD at this price.

    • +1, ordered one after contemplating for 6 hours. Hope dad likes it, how is still using a pc which is 15 years old that's running like a snail with windows 98 i guess

      • Yeah, he should be good. My son is used to my MacBook Pro Retina though, so this might come as a bit of a shock… But not to worry, there's plenty of younger siblings who should find use for this.

  • Just wondering, bought mine from last deal, and sometime when I open facebook there is a noise (probably coil whine). Is it normal?

  • Purchased one for my niece who just started high school this year :) Thanks OP! She no long will have to fight her 3 brothers for a computer to do homework.

  • Non-tech savvy here.
Would this be a good laptop for my daughter who is just about to start uni? So, for word processing, research and accessing the school portals etc? Thanks.

    • +1

would be sufficient for word processing and surfing web. make sure she does not require the laptop to use for special software for her course. might be hard to work on it for long time at home, but great for on-the-go and inexpensive :)

    • +1

I'm 3rd year uni and purchased one in the previous sale. Awesome laptop for the price, can't find a better valued laptop in my opinion. It really suits me for uni because of it's insane battery life (don't need to take charger in bag), size/portability and it fits on the lecture tables while having a book next to it as well. Just check if she requires a larger laptop or special software that could be intensive for the course/ degree. Other then that it's an amazing choice

      • +1

        Great information. Thankyou!

  • We've got one of each colour in our house. Great little laptop for high school students.

  • Bought on for the missus from the last sale. Great for the price. Cons are the screen, and there's no LED light to show the charge state. Thought this would be standard on laptops. Anyhoo, good deal!

  • Bought one over the last deal. Is there a combination security lock that fits this Dell laptop? I noticed the normal Kensington lock doesn't fit. Bought it for a primary school student.

  • Am i missing something? Is it $399 delivered now?

Also does it come with Office?

    • +1

You need to apply code CATCH20 for 20% off = $319.20

      • Thank you for the help!

Do you happen to know whether this comes with Microsoft Office - specifically word and excel?

        • It's not mentioned anywhere so I'd be pretty sure that it doesn't include MS Office. Edit, confirmed on product page it comes with Office trial only.

You could check here and here to see if there are any deals around/that apply to you. Or get a free version like Openoffice which would do if you just wanted something for word/excel.

  • Just changed my red to white after they re-stocked.

Can anyone recommend where to buy the upgrade-able goods?

    Cheers

  • Just ordered red one - thanks.

  • +1

In my humble opinion, vendors ought to give us OzBargainers an additional discount on all items, since we encourage each other to buy things and trouble shoot on the companies' behalf as well!

    • Lol, agreed there. The amount of money that I've saved via ozbargain..Or should that be money spent..

  • Did I miss something? The computer is now on for $399 on ebay.
