  • Hah, nice.

As the discussion in the COTD bargain, these aren't good knives. But for $36 you could do worse.

    • Or $30.94 even!

  • I was just going to ask if the knives were any good but Im guessing for 30.94 you get what you pay for.

Still a great bargain though :D

  • nah… i just love the design. Dun expect too much on the knifes… 36$? i would say no/// but yea.. still a + since it is much cheaperrrrrrrrr than COTD. and I love his comment (Creator) hahaha

    • +1

I am one one of COTD victims….spewing!!!!!!!!!!

  • just bought one.

  • Are these genuine or cheap knockoffs?

    • They reckon the RRP was $120ish according to the link, but who knows?
They had the same price in December (16th, 2009) and there were no complaints that I saw…

I'd only get them as a "joke" gift for someone but can't think of anyone to give them to.

  • -1

I was going to post this but didn't because nowhere does it say they are Voodoo brand knives.

If they are not Voodoo brand then you are just buying a generic brand and it is not really a good deal.

The title should have voodoo removed form it as these appear to be a knock off.

    Ahh paypal one day please

    • Ah yes neg voting bitches , what you dont like Paypal neg voters ?

See this is the problem with this site, a simple request with politeness is negged no wonder people turn to be assholes.

      • i +ved u. why the *%$# are people negging you because you want to pay by paypal? all decent e-tailers should offer this payment method now

      • Didnt neg it but for a merchant the fees paypal charge are excessive.

You are much better off negotiating a rate with a payment processor (eg e-way) and having all your transactions go through that than splitting it up across 2 payment processors as you will not get a processing fee as low as if you only used 1 processor as the fee the payment processor takes is linked to the value of transactions.

Outside of ebay paypal provides no extra security however if a merchant does accept it they have to pay paypal their excessive processing fees.

        • +2

Thanks anthony. i know all about feepay and scampals excessive fee slugging on both etailer merchants and ebay sellers.
But as a matter of convenience, and not extra security, many people prefer paypal as a payment option, particularly those that dont have credit cards and have their bank accounts linked to PP. Yes I know one day offers DPS payment express to cater for such people, but whatever the case, I dont think mikinoz needed to have 6 neg votes slammed on for such a request.

          • -1

            @ccrap:

But as a matter of convenience

            But is it really?
In the time it takes you to navigate away from the seller page, log into paypal, confirm paypal payment options (if you want to pay with credit card thats another few page loads as bank withdraw is always the default option, see below for why), submit that and go back to the merchant i doubt paypal is any faster

To type in your address each time is about 6 works and 30-40 characters
16 Digits for a credit card number.

particularly those that dont have credit cards and have their bank accounts linked to PP

I hate the idea of bank payments with paypal. The reason being is that paypal still charges a merchant fee for the service at the same rate as credit cards. The cost to paypal for withdrawing the money from your account would realistically be nothing.

There is no advantage to anyone to using bank transfer through paypal.

I do understand that people want paypal but i think by not accepting paypal it would allow the merchant to price things slightly cheaper and if people had a choice of paying more or less for the same item why would they want to pay more!

            • +1

@anthony: "is it really?" yes, no one wants to sign up to yet another method of payment. further, paying via paypal allows you to keep your financial details to yourself, as the transaction processing occurs with them, in case you are unsure of the website you are purchasing from….

and on and on we go… dont get me wrong, i hate paypals rorting just as much, if not more, than you - I used to have a high volume business on ebay and hated the double fees from ebay and paypal. but the fact it whilst we both have valid points, paypal had simply become a VERY common and generally sae way to pay which is by and large globally accepted with a large number of merchants…

in short, i know paypal is a b&$^h, but theres nothing wrong with miki expecting oneday to provide it as a payment option - its not a reason for negging miki's comment… anywy… i dont even know him/her so dunno why i noticed that earlier today or why this whole thing got my goat lol… im off to jb to see what i can pick up.. ciao

              • -1

                @ccrap:

no one wants to sign up to yet another method of payment

But you are not signing up for another payment method.
You either send them the money through a bank account or put your credit details into a credit card processing form. The merchant never sees your credit card details they are all processed by a payment processor who then pays the merchant.

paying via paypal allows you to keep your financial details to yourself

                As above.

in case you are unsure of the website you are purchasing from

If you are unsure as to the legitimacy of the merchant and pay with paypal your money is still as good as gone if they are dodgy.

Some banks now also will not allow a charge-back against paypal (CBA i think is one) as they do not deem paypal to be the merchant so will not allow you to charge back paypal transactions on your credit card.
If you paid a dodgy merchant directly with your credit card you are still guaranteed the ability to do a charge back.

  • This is not good. Thought that they were original Voodoo, purchased a set, and now realised that they aren't. Can't change my +ve to a -ve :(

  • +3

Yeah They are not real ones from what I see

    They are only 20cm knives

Here are the specs of the real ones

    http://www.voodooknifeblock.co.uk/index.php

I'm a bit unsure of this one. Perhaps not a good deal after all?

    EDIT:

Just used the online chat for 1-day:

You are now chatting with 'Kristian'

Kristian: Hi, how can we help you today?

    Matthew: Hello

Matthew: just wondering about the knife set

    Kristian: yes?

Matthew: is it a knock off brand of these:

    Matthew: http://www.voodooknifeblock.co.uk/index.php

    Matthew: or the real ones

Kristian: the knife set we have for sale is "unbranded"

    Matthew: ok thanks very much

Kristian: You're welcome, thanks for chatting

So yeah, not the real deal guys.

  • D'oh, I just bought thinking they were Voodoo. :(

    • -1

The website didnt say they were Voodoo.

If they were it would be a selling point as they are a brand name.

  • Just did the same - 'spoke' to the same guy, ahh well…

    REALLY MISLEADING POST !!!!!!!!!

    i bought them thinking they're voodoo, how do i retrieve my +ve ?? !!!

    • +1

i would be more interested in in getting my money back

      • i want scubaholes or 1-day sale to refund me !!!

        • -1

its not scuba's fault he just listed their deal , blame 1 day for shoddy tactics

          • +9

@Mikinoz: What did 1-day do wrong?

They never mentioned anywhere that the knives are voodoo brand.

            • -4

@anthony: Yeah your right, by the way do you want to buy a ferarri? its red and unbranded but i can do you a sweet deal lol

              • +10

@Mikinoz: You offered me a knock off Ferrari and called it a Ferrari. 1-day didnt do anything like that.

1-day listed a knife set with no brand name or indication of brand so people should assume that they are brand name knives.

People thought it was a brand name knife because the title of this post led them to believe that they were voodoo knives.

You should have read the 1-day product details page before making the purchase

                • -1

@anthony: Have a look around and see if you can buy a single 'voodoo' branded knife……you can't….the 'voodoo' branding is for the block, not the knives.

                • -5

@anthony: Selling unbranded products that are basically rip offs , sure there's nothing wrong with that in china

This is Australia since we does unbranded mean not a knock off , this is copyright is it not ?

                  • @Mikinoz: No, i dont think it is

                  • @Mikinoz:

this is copyright is it not ?

Not really for us to worry about I suppose….
more of a 1-day vs voodoo knife block issue…..

                    • @andy19363: now that i would like to see, wonder where they will stick the knives and if there will be a special edition like the 1 day knife block lol

                • @anthony: Your analogy is a little enthusiastic.

Maybe you should have said something like "You offered me a knock off Tata and called it a Tata".

                  • @[Deactivated]: lol good point

                    • +1

@Mikinoz: lol today is just not your day mikinoz, you're getting negged let right and centre…

                      • @ccrap: Thanks cc , its been like this for a while here, getting used to it now :)

    • I'm in exactly the same situation. I'd like to retract my +ve.

    • You can hit the -ve to retract your +ve but you can't vote -ve
Title has been changed to reflect the new info.

  • +1

should change the title so others will know

  • Voodoo style, and not actual Voodoo? How do they expect my voodoo knife placements to work? :-)

  • +2

who cares if they're unbranded. not like the voodoo brand give you quality knifes? ppl buy them for the aesthetics.

    • Not sure its that great for aesthetics more like a training diagram for murderers lol

    • That's what I thought, but apparently some think otherwise.
I had no intention of misleading, just didn't think there was much of a difference.

      • you didnt know the difference between something being original or a knock off ? !!!!

        • Voodoo knives have a reputation for being incredibly mediocre. I assume scuba assumed that even if it were a knock off the quality would be about the same.

          • @[Deactivated]: lol good call

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: Yeah, the difference between a brand name piece of crap and a no-name piece of crap that has the same visual effect at a fraction of the price is pretty marginal to me… Apparently others don't have that point of view.
As such, I have changed the post heading to be quite explicit.

If you want good knives, get out of the novelty department and into the knife department!
There's a massive difference in quality but you have to pay for it!

  • Has anyone canceled their order successfully? Please shed some light..

  • ordered one
just want it for the man
dont care about the knives (u cant get good knives for that cheap, even the voodoo ones1)
i had a chat with the guys there and they have 12 months warrenty

  • +5

To all the people pissed off it's not the real thing, calm down.
first up, what did you expect for about a fifth of the retail price.
secondly, dont worry, you've now got an identical looking product at a fraction of the price.
thirdly, if you're worried the knives wont be as good, dont! the original knives are mediocre at best so chances are this might actually be better.
at the end of the day, this is just a novelty knife holder. if you want a real knife go and get a global chef knife - you wont ever regret it!

  • +1

is there anyone that will tell me why u guys love the voodoo knives so much? paying more than 100 bucks, just for the design?

    • marketing……

  • QQh Noowh! dat Voodoo duz seem ta be workin' its foo foo, on suma youse!! >:O)

  • +3

I have had a fake set of these knives for 7 months now. They are not Global by any means but for 31 bucks, you will all be very happy with the quality. The only difference i can tell from the originals is these will not have the 'voodoo' stamp in the base that the originals have and my colour in the base has faded a little. Otherwise i just sharpen them with a knife sharpener and they can still with ease slice through anything i need them to do. For the price these are pretty awesome knives.. I just bought another two sets for a cheap fun present for friends who always comment on mine.
    Hope that helps :)

  • Well the COTD ones were the real thing with the Italian designer's name on the base and Voodoo on the knives. But even so were still made in Taiwan. Maybe the 1Day ones come out of the same factory. They are a unique design tho'. Were the ones on 1Day a few months ago then the real thing or copies as well?

  • +2

No offense but the Voodoo man is not exactly the most sophisticated thing in the world, what's to say that it wasnt already being made in a factory somewhere and they just slapped their own 'brand' on and started selling it under their own name - ppl are constantly exporting products from China under their own brand. I'm sure you've come across cheap products that are exactly identical to each other but have different 'labels' on them.

And based on what I've read from other owners of the official 'Voodoo' the knives sucked anyway (as you'd expect for under $100) so you're really only buying the plastic man in my opinion.

In any case, positive vote from me, I'd much rather pay $30 for this unbranded man as opposed to $80 for the other voodoo man but with a brand on the base.

  • whoever invented this deserves to be rich

  • it was Voodoo 1 year ago, but now it's unbranded!!

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/20300
    -WAS Designed by Raffaele Iannello
    -WAS 25 year warranty

    • Yeah, that's what threw me, I double checked the last time they posted only a few days ago when COTD had theirs…
Perhaps they had complaints that they weren't genuine last time either!

  • for all those disappointed they didn't get the 'real' voodoo block

    http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/smallfish_info.php?products_…
will fit well between the pizza maker, hot dog maker, Jaimie Oliver set of pans, and the waffle maker….perhaps next to the heineken fridge….

  • -1

The Catchoftheday knife set is the GENUINE Voodoo at half the price of a GENUINE Voodoo set. Those that know the difference in quality between a cheap knife and a good one, will understand the difference between the two…..

    • can you buy 'voodoo' knives without the block?

    • -1

Those that know the difference in quality between a cheap knife and a good one

      Yes i do.

will understand the difference between the two

      Which you dont.
The voodoo knife block and knives are not good quality knives.

    • and welcome to ozbargain.
