LATAM (formerly Lan Chile before the merger with TAM) has a great fare to Santiago from $1022 for travel between May and November (there are some blackout periods that apply).

Details are below -

• Sydney to Santiago - $1022 (requires stop in Auckland of approx 2hrs either way)
• Melbourne to Santiago - $1018 (Qantas connecting flight to and from Auckland with a layover of 5hrs on the way there and 2hrs on the way back)
• Auckland to Santiago - $1011 (AUD, nonstop flight)

  Wow great deal and on a dreamliner too (although personally I think it's the same thing if you're in economy). Back in 2013 I paid $1600 to get to South America (Buenos Aires) on Aerolineas Argentina on some shitty old 747 that hadn't been renovated in like decades. Complete with large projector screen at the front of the cabin. LAN was about $2200 for the same dates (but to Santiago).

    did that aerolineas flight a few years earlier. The inflight entertainment broke, so they just turned off the lights and kept it a sleeping flight! Flown LAN a few times since and thank god for that!

  Not sure this deal is still active; I can't find anything cheaper than $1,440 in the date range advertised (May to November).
