Woolworths WISH eGift Cards 5.25% off @ Cashrewards

3120

I recall one of the recent deals expired earlier than the specified expiry date/time, so don't leave it too long!

Don't think these need an introduction here, but in case anyone is new to Ozbargain/WISH eGift Cards and has no idea what these are…

WISH eGift Cards are the digital version of the Woolworths WISH Gift cards which can be used at the following merchants:

  • Woolworths (can top up your Opal card, for any Sydney people)
  • Most Caltex/Woolworths (i.e. petrol) - must be Woolworths branded! (Can be converted to physical WISH gift card to maximise acceptance - see guide below)
  • Big W
  • Dan Murphy's
  • BWS
  • Thomas Dux
  • Cellarmasters
  • Masters - have they fully died yet?

This literally means you're getting a further discount off your groceries/petrol/alcohol/Opal Card that you're likely to purchase anyway.

To give some monetary examples:

Handy info about eGift Cards:

  • Available in denominations of $5-500. If you need more then just make multiple orders
  • Handy way of reaching min spend thresholds of Credit Cards ("Spend $2500 within 3 months to get 75k QFF points!")
  • Multiple use (i.e. like a debit card, keep using it until you use it up)
  • No minimum spend when using the card
  • 12 month expiry
  • Do not prevent you from earning Woolworths Rewards points (these are just a form of payment)
  • Can be stacked with almost all other promotions (these are just a form of payment)
  • Can be stored within Woolworths Money app for ease of tracking balances, expiry and transaction history: (iOS/Android (Screenshot))
  • Can be paid for using credit cards including AMEX with no surcharge (no PayPal)
  • Are categorised as "Supermarket Spend" (great for Platinum Edge & DJ AMEX Card holders)
  • The eGift Cards will generally arrive in your inbox within ~6 hours of ordering
  • Handy for getting your partner/housemate who happens to be swinging by Woolies anyway to get you the milk you forgot and pay with your eGift Card (just send them a screenshot of your card details) - no need to do bank transfers to arrange returning money!
  • System allows you to use these to pay for other gift cards - but may not be allowed by human intervention
  • This can mean an effective 5% off at other merchants by purchasing their gift cards sold at Woolworths including JB Hi-Fi, Jetstar, Freedom Furniture, Accor Hotels
  • If you ask for a refund for something you paid for with an eGift Card, they cannot re-issue you with an eGift Card. You will usually get it in the form of a "Returns Card" which is valid for either 3 months or 6 months from the time the refund is processed. Sometimes they will just give you cash (if lazy). I believe these still operate as WISH gift cards (i.e. can use it at the same merchants as eGift Cards)
  • Can be converted to physical WISH gift cards at the discretion of store staff - important for maximising acceptance at Caltex branches

To pay:

  • At self check-out, select "eGift Card" (bottom option): Photo
  • At a manned counter/cashier, say "I wish to pay by eGift Card"
  • If you only have $3.51 remaining, you can manually key that in via self check-out. You can also ask the assistant to type this in for you if it is manned.

How to visually tell if Caltex accepts WISH Physical or WISH eGift Cards (credit to cwongtech)

Fully Independent Caltex Co-branded Caltex & Woolworths Fully-Woolworths Owned Caltex
"Starmart"/Myer One Points Maybe Maybe No
Accepts 4c Fuel Voucher No Yes Yes
Accepts Woolworths WISH (Physical) No Yes Yes
Accepts Woolworths eGift Voucher No No Yes

Use this link to find Woolworths owned Caltex that accept eGift Cards. This link is the standard supermarket store locator, but also includes the locations of fully Woolworths owned Caltex locations.

You can convert (digital) eGift Cards to physical WISH cards at Woolworths to use as form of payment at your local Caltex if it is a co-branded store and not fully-woolworths owned. Self-serve can be used but requires assistance from staff to manually enter the desired value to be loaded onto the gift card to be purchased.
Do not bother trying to convert at Big W as the system no longer allows it.

        • May have to move in with one of those great Australian Tax dodgers Leyton Hewitt in Nassau, or Patrick Rafter -'Australian(taxdodger)of the year' in Bermuda.

you save 50 cents here you go somewhere else you save another 50 cents you have one dollar and you go to the dollar store you go buy something else

  • +1

Extra 0.25% is better than nothing, it's hard to find a bargain now days, I doubt you will get any better deal else where, +1 for op, and for the people who wings done buy it as your not obligated to.

Over the long term it all adds up you must be bad for maths if you can't figure that out, better than picking up pennies from the street :)

    • +1

Nothing wrong with looking for a good deal but i found a recent ABC radio discussion interesting. The guest "expert" talked about a study which suggested that people who constantly search out bargains are less satisfied than others. My guess is that this has something to do with their focus being on the bargain less than the usefulness/enjoyment of the actual purchase. Something to cogitate.

      • +2

My guess is that this has something to do with their focus being on the bargain less than the usefulness/enjoyment of the actual purchase.

I think it should be about knowing where to draw the line and being satisfied about it.
Effort used (quantifiable amount) to obtain impact on the bargain hunter's life.
Whether that impact is satisfaction, or monetary savings.

        • +2

This would be an interesting topic for a forum.
How do you quantify/value the effort?
How much is 30 minutes of your time worth?
How much time/effort would you sacrifice to save $1?
The $1 (or more) comes and goes.
Time only goes…you never get it back.
          Philosophical issue…

        • +2

Iirc the survey suggested it was more the mindset than the trade off between effort and result. Ie people who are constantly chasing deals and determined to wring the neck out of them (eg the recent much discussed Cashrewards "deal") are overall less likely to be satisfied. Doesn't surprise me in the least even if it is based on shaky data. Same people probably stress about the fact the price drops over time and there will often be a better product or price just over the horizon.

Moral is research what you need/want, look for a good deal (which isn't always the lowest price), buy, enjoy.

        • @Possumbly: Quite true, for some when bargain-hunting becomes driven by the FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) mindset, it becomes counter-productive. I watched a doco about such bargain-hunters, and the anxiety, and negative feelings that they experienced - it is no fun! There is always a balance to strike.

  • You can always use "split payment" if there are not enough fund in the card.

  • These can be used to recharge WW mobile prepaid? If so, does that work online only or at store also?

  • Anyone know if you can store these on your phone with an app?

    • +2

      Yes. Refer to the OP.

  • -1

    They email you the egiftcards.
Not too sure about how safe it is.
Emails can be compromised and all the crooks need is the "in store" card number and pin to use the egiftcard as cash to buy anything they want. No traceability after that…

Thanks for your contribution to the site, you're definitely the expert in posting bargains I take it. Well done on the negative vote.

    • +4

For me, it's always a bargain at 5%, so the additional .25 makes it sweeter. Opal top up FTW.

    • You must have many Sydney properties for not wanting a bargain or to save money.

Keep your negatively geered properties and profit by putting many Chinese students into one bedroom.

  • I like these egiftcards them better than normal cards. Just need to remember the numbers, don't need to bring a wallet. But they will expire after a year.

    • +5

No need to remember the numbers just load the cards into the Woolworths Money App.

  • 180 + votes for .25% extra savings than normal. I understand 5% is a good savings already.
Woolies operated caltex are mostly expensive compared to other local ones. We do our shopping from Coles, Aldi and Woolies. Woolies prices are not always that great.

Other than that, I have heard some stories of codes already being used and you have to remember the expiry date for them as well. Its way too much botheration compared to savings you have. You save extra 2.5 dollars per 1000 dollars of cash and paying in advance even with credit card, it is only 55 days or less credit.

Depends.. I like to go road-trippin' with my ozbargain brethren to 7/11s occasionally wink wink

Stick to the specials from each :D

180 + votes for .25% extra savings than normal.

If you want higher rates, go ozbargain classified for 7% off (they'd be using this deal anyway).
They're just buying credit card points :)

      • -1

        BTW, I didnt negg you.

Yes, that what we do and regular things can be bought in bulk.
See I understand that about higher rates, but so much love to these here is over me. $2.5 of savings for this deal over $1000 is over me. I saw your post for 7%, but I don't want them. If you have an issue with them, all your savings are gone. Also I can budget better with card rather than buying in advance.

People need to save wisely. I am fine to spend using my card directly with coles, woolies or aldi. 7/11 is very close to me and I prefer unleaded for my car compared to E10 which is 2 cents cheaper, but average wise you end up with cost after the mileage from each. E10 not so good for your engine.

  • I ordered at 8am this morning. Got the confirmation but no invoice or cards yet. They usually only take 2-3 hrs. Anyone else got theres yet?

    • +1

Normally it takes a couple of hours however this depends on the funds transfer.

To find out the process of your gift cards login
      select my account
      Gift Card order history
It should be in the following stages
      Processing
      Gift Cards being Issued
Gift Cards pending to be sent out
      Order Dispatched

Please don't quote my exactly on the stages but that is the process.

  • With refund using purchase egift card you can request a refund to a wish gift card.

The supervisor will always try and refund via a returns card however you are entitled to a full refund to another wish gift card.

    • +2

Oh our local woolies is funny, apparently these gift cards are just to difficult & often ask if refund as cash or to credit card is ok? Errr sure I'll take cash if that's easier ;-)

      • I had the above with Masters.

  • Oopsie just ordered $400 worth at 5% last night

    • you just missed out on a grand total of $1 savings

      • +1

        He needs this: 13 11 14.

      • +1

        yep, a large frozen coke

  • +1

I have ordered mine every two two weeks for $210 to be exact, for me it can take anywhere from 1h-3hours and I'm on commonwealthbank.

All these tiny savings adds up alot in your 99 years of your life, well if u live that long, and to the ones still complaining about only 0.25% you guys prob still pick up 5c coins form the ground, what do you call that?

    • I call that a foolish and irrational habit that should be broken.

  • -7

Only 0.25% extra so not a bargain. Even less % saving than the BigW NES deal that people negged

  • How is 5.25% off at Woolworths Group a better deal than this?

I do not understand the hype of an extra 0.25% off.

If i purchase $1500 of egift cards, I receive an additional $3.75 off. Fantastic …

    • The one you are refering to is now expired. If it was active, 1. Hard to get stock. 2. Limited to $88
0.25% might not be a lot to you but to some it is. Sometimes it is the thinking of the value of 'oh crap i could have gotten a better deal'.

Also cashrewards allows amex and it is instant with email sent by woolies.

Purcahse $200,000, of cards and it is $500, if it a business that might be HUGE.

      Each to their own

      • +1

Get the triple points on your amex platinum too right Turd?

      • Yes, but it was available for a week.
        1. I was able to find it in stock in 2/3 stores I visited.
        2. You mean it is an inconvenience that it is limited to $88? Well, I don't see it as an issue if you are able to get an additional 5% off at all retailers that have an eftpos terminal.

The eftpos deal can be combined with 5% off CashRewards/NRMA/RACV which are instant and combined with AmEx and 3x points with Platinum Edge, which you would definitely know, Turd.

        • True!

    • +1

Are you going by the # of votes?

Yea you know what - I can't disagree.

As you've pointed out though, you can combine them which makes the combination of the two a better deal. I also think the availability of this deal makes it better - it's not stock dependent. I'm surprised you were able to find stock at 2/3. I wasn't able to find any stock at all after day 1 (and I didn't expect to)

In isolation I don't actually think that deal is that great a deal. Why would you pay for $1 with $1? It's really about the fact that you can get 3x pts per $ and 5% off eGift Cards, effectively allowing you to not only pay with AMEX almost everywhere but also get 3x pts per dollar everywhere.

      • +1

I agree. It's good to get the word out to people so the time are aware they can save 5%+ easily with Woolworths Group. Thanks for the informative post.

  • Heinz baked beans are so much cheaper (everyday) at Costco lol.

    • +1

      Opal topup isn't though ;)

  • So, I finally got my first WISH eGift Card. Feels like I've stepped up in the OzB world.

Wanted to stack the 5.25% with the CashRewards 7% cash back on wine from Dan Murphy's but checked the terms and saw:
    - Cashback cannot be earned if a gift card is used or the order is not completed online.

Anyone who has tried stacking able to confirm whether they got their cash back or not? (Worth confirming, even if the terms are clear.)

    • +1

That's from the general rules. But in this case, this "Rewards are payable when you pay for your purchase with a Dan Murphy's or WISH gift card."supersedes it.

      • Nice catch. I didn't even see that before. I'll give it a go now.

      • Awesome, I can confirm that stacking works. Also noticed that Cashrewards cash back on items discounted because of a member offer are calculated on the full price (as if there was no discount).

For example, with this $19.99 six pack of organic beer currently available for $10 to members, the 5% cash back is effectively doubled to ~10% because the cash back is calculated on the full $19.99 instead of the $10 actually paid.

  • +2

Tried this morning. Advertised on Cashrewards "Save 5.25%" but by the time it adds to the cart it's only 5%. Maybe Everyday Giftcards have expired this earlier.

    • +1

Same result for me. Cashrewards claim it expires at 11:59pm tonight, but I think maybe they got the day wrong.

      • Just did a whole bunch and they are still 5.25% off

      • Yep noticed this too this morning.

Just tried half an hour ago though and it was back to 5.25% again.

    • +2

I got one at 5% when it was suppose to be 5.25%.
I paid $47.5 for a $50 ewish card on my credit card.

Today when I had a look at my card transactions I was surprised to see they actually gave me back $0.13 (0.25% of $50)
I like it when companies do this without needing you to email them :)

  • Just curious.
Are these guys simply paying 2% for the extra amex points after they get the 5% off from various sources?

    • The egift sellers on ozb?
      Yes they are.
      Its triple points as well
So if its 7% rate, take a $100 egift voucher for example, you pay 93 to them, they pay 95 to woolies, and they're out of pocket for $2.
But they get $95 x 3 spending worth of points for $2.

      • OK thanks. Was just curious how it all worked. Good on them for thinking outside the square

I don't think they are worth 2% for me personally. But it sounds like they do business and first class flights

Unless there is something else that's worth more or similar in terms of points

    • From the horse's mouth (i.e. me)

      Yes.

      • You must extract a lot of value per point?

        • Yep otherwise it wouldn't be worth doing it I guess :P hahaha
