No pen and 3 months warranty, Specs are okay for the price. I wonder what happens if you don't get the one that's in excellent condition

    • Yes, and I understand that not all S pens are compatible with each other, so I presume that the $4 S pens on ebay wouldn't work.

As a side note these are also quite chunky and heavy. The tablet and dock each weigh around 700-800g I believe.

  • i5-2467 ? That's launched 5 years ago

    • Yup, that is a SandyBridge. Intel CPUs stopped getting faster after that. A comparible modern i7 is less than twice as fast, and this should run rings round an atom. http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-6500U-vs-…

Stopped getting faster is totally wrong by your own admission, almost twice as fast is not an improvement? How about the power efficiency improvements from lithography and core enhancements?

There has been a slow down from each generation but the improvements continue, you will especially notice a difference in mobile applications

Power consumption has improved which is indeed important for portable devices.

It is unsurprising that a modern i7 is a little faster than an old i5. Newer chips aren't necessarily faster anymore. A smartwatch is way faster than a old 486DX, but this i5 is over twice as fast as the newish atom in my 2 in 1: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-2467M-vs-Intel-Celeron….

Performancewise rule of thumb is that anything older than sandybridge is rubbish, but sandybridge will give competitive performance for the foreseeable future.

I wonder what the battery life would be down to after years of use.

    • Battery replaced as part of refurbishment?

      • +3

        Where does it say refurbished?

        • +1

          My bad.

          That is a worry.

        • @tightwad: it is a worry without a refurb, it is only worth what you would pay on gumtree without it.

          @stormii:

Useless customer service, too. A Mainland Chinese woman answered the phone and basically offered no guarantees. Said it had a 3 month warranty. But upon further questioning that proved to be worthless. Just like in China. No wonder they manufacture everything and have no brands - the big money made by foreign companies that understand their customers.

    • Claims 5 hour battery life, but presumably only when new.

  • biggest problem with this is the dock - bumping the screen will dislodge it from the dock and you have to restart it again before it will redetect properly. No fix for this and Samsung does not officially acknowledge it as a design problem. Really sucks.

    • BTW, do you know where to get an S poem compatible with this device?

      • You referring to the S-Pen itself or the S-Note app?

        S-Note App is here:
        http://www.samsung.com/uk/apps/mobile/snote/

S-Pen - use any of the S-Pen's that is available on Ebay for the standard Galaxy Notes. All of them are compatible and using the same hardware. I interchanged and used the same pen between my phone (Note 4), my tablet (Note 8) and this PC (Ativ Pro) when I was using this combination and synced all the notes to the Samsung Cloud.

    • I had the same problem and Samsung fixed it out of warranty without charge. It is a common issue and I think either the dock gets replaced or the connection part of the tablet.

      • I took it into them and they kept dicking me around so gave up. Mine still works as long as you dont move it around too much. LOL.

        • Yeah you've got to be persistent sometimes! It was just a pain getting it to work on anything other than a flat hard surface before they fixed it.

    • Sticky dots might fix that?

  • BTW.. not sure if the specs on the site are correct - but I've never seen a XE-700T (which is the Pro version, not the XE-500T the Low end Atom version) with this screen resolution. I've only seen them in 1920x1080 FHD..

  • The screen resolution is terrible!
Do not do this to yourselves, especially with that small screen the terrible resolution will be really annoying. I have 2 tablets with that resolution rendered as useless on my desk collecting dust.

    • Are you complaining it is too hi-res or too lo-res? This is a 11.6" FHD 190PPI which is very high and very good screen unless you got squinty eyes.

  • The size ain't matter, infact the smaller the size the harder to work with documents and multi tasking in a low resolution screen, open a pdf article and see what I say. That's the reason that almost all phones have much much higher resolution and DPI than any monitor or TV on the face of the planet earth!
