Bargain!! $99 for a rear ward facing up to 12months is pretty good. I'm going to get one as a spare.

This would look terrible in my Bugatti. Maybe this is better.

Cant stand the brand name 'Mothers Choice'. As a single Dad it makes my blood boil. Irrelevant to the bargain but I refuse to buy one.

Forget price, the first thing any responsible parent should be looking at is the Child seats website for safety ratings. Price is not an indicator of quality or safety.

    • As a soon to be parent, where do I find these safety rating websites?

      And what are your recommendations?

        https://www.childcarseats.com.au

For my daughter I bought the Infra Secure Luxi Treo thats convertible from birth to 8 years for $299 (this was the cheapest I could find it anywhere): https://www.babyandtoddlertown.com.au/infa-secure-luxi-treo-…

It is highly rated, convertible, and affordable based on our budget, not to mention a solid baby seat, high quality, comfortable and looks good. But it also comes down to your budget and car space.

Just to be clear though, I'm not suggesting the one advertised here is a bad deal or not safe, you'll need to do your research and compare it with others you find before making your selection.

Price is not an indicator, but neither is the CREP website which is also known as CRAP. Different ratings for two seats that are the same design, different fabric. Extra star for ISOFIX install (it's no safer) for one seat, but no other seats. The ease of install ratings that appear to have been done by different people each time.

And I don't know if there's a seat I hate more than the Luxi. The age range labeling system needs to be overhauled to stop people being fooled by this seat. The "0-8" Luxi is harnessed to 40cm torso height. For $199 (that's full price) you can get a "0-4" that's rear facing to 39cm and forward facing to 43cm. A type G seat which is really is to 8 years is harnessed to 51cm.

        • @deeevan:
Isn't the CREP testing for all seats done by Britax as well I thought I read somewhere?

        • @tissue:
Dunno, but you prompted me to finally look up who CREP are. As pointed out below, they don't test every seat on the market and take ages to update. I think my seat took 18 months to show up?

All seats sold in Australia have to meet the Australian Standard for safety. Beyond that it comes down to comfort, size, ISOFIX, features etc

      • +1

They have to meet the minimum standards. Some baby seat manufacturer's go above and beyond making them safer.

    • Not all seats have been CREP tested though, so it's not the be all and end all.

All seats sold in Australia have to meet stringent safety standards.

Mothers Choice seats can tend to be on the low side for markers though.

  • Apparently it's been out of stock in all stores for a very long time (WA).

recommendation from person (not me) in baby industry: do not buy Mothers Choice for any price.

    • This seat (and the brand in general) is known for low height markers (so unlikely to get to 12 months or 4 years), hard to install properly, and poor recline increasing chance your kid's head is going to flop onto their chest and squeeze their airways.

The budget picks are the Infasecure Neon II for $149 from Big W or the HiPod Kansas which is extended rear facing for $199 from Target

  • I have a mothers choice car seat I purchased from big w. It's not this model but it's great. Much better than our meridian ahr.

  • Just went instore and had a look at this baby seat. Didn't buy it as its looks real cheap and poor foam quality
