I found my last $10 voucher a waste of time. It cannot be used on the 'steals of the day' which are the only thinks worth buying!

    • +2

Last time the following trick worked for me:
      1. Add some random full-priced item to cart, go to checkout, input 10$ coupon on last screen.
      2. Add 'steal of the day' item to cart.
      3. Remove full-priced item from cart and continue with checkout.

  • $10!!!! that's your free shipping lol

which is an expensive shipping I say…

  • (No minimum spend, excludes postage, expiry date 20 August 2010)

not true … I found things I want to buy are cheaper elsewhere even with the $10 discount.

      • and you wouldn't have to waste your time jumping through the hoops to get it. Something for nothing sounds good in theory, but in this case, I'm not wasting my precious time.

    • Don forget the 5% MBC!

    • Thanks ordered the MicroSD also.

    • I think they had the sandisk 8gb micro for the same money with free shipping last week.

As other smart individuals discovered in the cordless phone deal from topbuy, it is possible to get the coupon to apply to any product.

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/27932

It is a matter of adding and then removing from the cart a product to which the coupon is accepted, followed by adding the real item of interest to the cart.

    • Does the trick still work?

    • +2

There's nothing "smart" about this; it's unfairly taking advantage of a glitch in Topbuy's site. As a Topbuy rep reiterated in a reply to you in that thread, coupons do not apply to "Steal of the Day" items.

      • jump22 - I think you should re-read what I wrote in that thread:

        —"
So I tried to leverage the $10 voucher from paypal; topbuy would not accept it.
“No Further Discounts On Steal Of The Day Offers”
So I tried adding additional items to my cart, still topbuy would not accept a voucher.
TopBuy rep - please explain why this is the case?
What is the point on providing vouchers if your site will not accept them?
        "—

You failed to point out that I tried to add additional items to my cart and still the coupon was not accepted? Is this a glitch too?

        • If the coupon workaround ‘glitch’ were on ebay/dell/amazon/etc it would be the #1 deal on every bargain website in the world.

That doesn't make such "workarounds" right. The retailer clearly doesn't intend the coupon to be used for "Steal of the Day" items, and what you (and others) are doing goes against the spirit of their promotion. Where's your sense of ethics and fairness? Are you really so desperate to save $10 that you need to exploit the goodwill of businesses?

Nowhere in the original “TopBuy’s Paypal End of Financial Year Sales Promotion.” did it mention the voucher had specific conditions. Not even in the email sent from topbuy. This has obviously changed now with this latest offer.

If it's obviously changed, then why alert people to the glitch/trick/workaround?

          • @[Deactivated]: Ahh, looks like you edited your comment to remove the bits I replied to!

I still have my $10 voucher from the previous deal. Couldn't find anything worthy on Topbuy to justify spending on.

    • i tried last time to buy something worth $9.95 with the voucher but it would not apply. I would assume that meant you had to spend above $10…hmm

  • Doesn't seem like there's anything good to use it on.

  • thanks for the tips guys, saved me from more spamz0r

  • +6

High prices for most items of interest to us… No real value here IMO.

  • +1

not a fan of topbuy. no real bargains

  • +1

Doesn't work on items that are below $10, so it's not true that there's no minimum spend.

Mods might want to amend the post with regards to that.

  • +5

even with $10 voucher almost everything seems overpriced…

  • Depsite what the T&C say there is a minimum spend… it doesnt work on $9.99 items, so basically you have to spend more than $10 on the item as well!

    • or the poster can.

But that was a comment about last time. If someone can confirm it this time around, then click on the report, if there is a minimum, we can update it.

      • I can confirm it this time around - I checked before I posted that message, didn't get it from last time.

      • -1

TopBuy shoppingcart system would NOT allow product price below coupon value, as it would NOT give credit or change for the price difference.
So, the minimum spend is the "coupon value", as otherwise the coupon system will not work, this is a shoppingcart issue.
However, there are over 20,000 products on TopBuy website, so we are sure there is someone for everyone!
Also, all cometics & beauty products are FREE SHIPPING!

    Very expensive crap..

  • +4

if you buy from topbuy you will get some top spam in your emails :)

  • I'm doubt anyone looking for bargain will purchase stuff from this site

    • +1

The 8GB MicroSD Prodigy pointed out for $16 delivered with this voucher is a bargain. Cheapest on ebay is $21.00 delivered from hong kong. Cheapest on static ice is $21 + Delivery. $16 delivered = Bargain.

    • Depends on what your idea about bargain is…

  • no bargain here.

  • A case of 24 Stella is $75 + $10 P+H… or still $75 with this voucher. Where is the bargain?

  • +1

they have the worst customer service I have ever experienced on online shops.

    • +1

      What about COTD?

      • yep COTD are No.1 for crap service and dodgy products

  • Seems over priced. No Bargain

  • I have to agree about the poor customer service. I recently purchased a DVR which arrived DOA. They have supplied a Return Authorisation number but want me to pay for registered post to return it to them. Not sure if this is normal practice but i fail to understand why i should have to pay for postage again as they have supplied a faulty product. I have sent a couple of emails over the past 2 weeks - still no response from them as to why i should pay. Looks like i'm forking out for postage again!

    • it might be worth checking with consumer affairs in your state, first.

Consumer affairs in my state has an enquiry line; maybe yours does too

    • thats the problem with buying online

as long as they offer to deal with it…….I dont think by law they have to pay for return purchase

that way these companies can sell a lot of cheap shit with no recourse

Hi Adzi, please email me your order ID and we will look into this for you.
      pleaes email to [email protected]

      • Foundit - Yep, have contacted The Office of Fair Trading and they are sending "intervention" documentation.

G_Man - Email sent. No response before but maybe this time. Fingers crossed.

  • Not a bargain.

  • Nope.

  • This is not a bargain

And Topbuy customer service is one of the worst
I don't think we got any Topbuy rep here in Ozbargain to defend this true statement

    • We at TopBuy are trying to improve on our customer experience, maybe your experience is over 12 months ago.
If you have purchase anything recently and is still having customer service issue, please let us know via our message system.

Negative from me. Horrible service, horrible prices, just horrible.
    Don't bother claiming a voucher

    You won't use it.

Welcome to TopBuy.com.au -Australia's largest online department store!

      Australia's largest online department store!

      wut?

  • waste of time.

  • ditto

  • Waste of my time, doubt this flop-buy will still exist in 2 years time.

  • Topbuy suck as above, generic USB mouse $49.95, $40 shipping to me.

    • -1

Wozz, not sure what you are referring to:
here is a list of all USB Mouse from TopBuy http://www.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/showsearchresults.asp?pag…

Cheapest start at $6.95, $7.99 and about half dozen other mouse are under $9.99

If you need further assistance finding someone you want, please let us know.
Posting accurate information would be appreciated.

      • +1

        Maybe he means $40 shipping + $9.95 mouse = $49.95 delivered

        • +1

          That's exactly right.
Sorry G-male. I stand corrected, can be had for $48.95 delivered.

  • I beg to differ on their customer service. Attention to detail may leave something to ponder. I ordered from their buy 5 items get free clock offer and only got one item delivered originally even though all communication indicated items had been shipped together. Received RMA advise that remaining 4 items + free clock will be re-shipped, but only received the 4 items. Free clock now being sent separately. Given they have lost out on the missing items plus 3 delivery charges I would say this is excellent customer service just bad operating procedures. Thumbs up from me on customer satisfaction, but I agree most of their prices are not competitive.

I.E. Turbo Convection Oven - http://www.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/Turbo-Convection-Oven-Exp… is the same model (different branding) as several other online discounters but all have it $20 cheaper.

P.S. My last $10 voucher also went in the delete bin after the expiry.

  • -1

Sign up to their news letter to get $20 free, so this "promo" sucks.

    • read some of the other comments that mention this. It's 2 x $5 + 1 x $10 voucher used over 3 orders. And what if you already get their newsletter.

  • +1

watta?? the p&h for the 8gb microsd is now $8. looks like they have increase the postage. not really a bargain now

  • I was considering buying a Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo 8GB with this $10 voucher but:

    Costs $60.85+10.05 at topbuy:
    http://www.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/Sony-Memory-Stick-PRO-Duo…

    and costs $40.54+4.69 at crazysales:
    http://www.crazysales.com.au/sony-8gb-memory-stick-pro-duo-m…

Not sure why it is uneconomical even with discount?

  • +3

lol I was going to post this when I got the email the other day. Lucky I didn't…it's getting slaughtered

  • Wow, expensive. I also compared some products. E.g. HD Set top box Laser $100+$10ship compared to crazysales which had exact same for $65+7.50ship last week. No variety either so I don't see how they can even claim to be the biggest. Would think BigW or similar to be bigger. Need more than $10 promo to make me look at Topbuy ever again.

  • TopBuy? Waste of time.

  • Overpriced, even with discount, not a bargain!

  • Worst pricing ever.

  • yeah they increasing their postage for the sd card , thumbs down
