Not the absolute cheapest it has been, but a good price nonetheless. Local stock is still $999 at JB Hifi.

Dual-SIM (4G+3G), has Band 28, and generally a very good device.

Beautiful headset, amazing specs…… However, grey importing an LG handset is only for the brave or supremely optimistic.

Of course I speak of the well documented Boot Loop issue that has plagued just about all LG Flagship phones in recent years. Including G3, G4, G5, Nexus 5 and V10. The vast majority of G3 and G4 handsets auto 'Bricked themselves' before the 12 month mark, other handsets less frequent, but still significant.

Bottom line is, pay extra and get a local warranty.

    • I can confirm boot loop issue happened to me on LG G4. Not sure if the v20 is effected, but still worth researching before committing. Better off going with another brand at this price.

      • Even than, V20 is just 4 months old and you may not hear much report for now.

    • also comes with free cracked camera glass cover.

    • Its really sad. Loved my G2 but switched to iPhone SE. V20 is a beast.

  • Yeah. Was looking at this earlier.

This dont vote well for confidence…

I wish I could find a waterproof dual sim phone in the sale…

I got a grey import via ebay which came from Taiwan, and can confirm I've had no issues for the past few months. No boot loops, no lag, no cracked camera glass.

The Quad DAC adds heaps of clarity to music when you listen using headphones, and because it's overseas stock, it's tuned in collaboration with B&O, and comes with a pair of their earphones.

Camera quality's great, the wide-angle lens takes some really good landscape or just group shots. The screen resolution is exceptional, and the second screen is useful for quick access to apps or frequently used contacts.

Definitely recommend to those who like big screens with good resolution; high quality cameras; and top-notch audio. Expandable memory and battery are a massive bonus too, and LG is pretty much the last of the major producers offering it.

It's a beautiful phone on paper and in the hand…… Ticks just about every box in terms of features I'd want, but unfortunately I've been burnt by LG before so I'm extra cautious.

Fingers crossed they've resolved the issues now.

      • Exactly the same here. I want to be able to trust this phone, because it's exactly what I want!

    • Have you owned this phone for at least 12 months?

      • 3 months. Prior to that I was using the LG G4 [grey import] which I've had since June 2015 and had no issues with it at all.

        • You are very VERY lucky. I've gone through 2 that lost WIFI and Bluetooth but hadn't boot looped. Last time was a real headache to get it replaced. Without a flagship phone for weeks and then to try to get me a new phone JBHiFi changed my contract without my permission creating a huge huge mess!!!!

I loved the LG G4. It was a beautiful phone! Mine went into the boot loop after 12 months. It was getting really hot and turning off for no reason. LG are doing the repair which is great, but I'm now without the phone for 6 weeks.

For those with an LG phone purchased from an Australian business with ABN Tax Invoice provided (whether it is grey import or local stock), you can pursue two options under Australian Consumer Law (ACL).

        1. Under 12 months : have the item repaired, replaced or refunded. The retailer my opt to have the phone assessed to make sure the problem wasn't "end user caused". This is legal, but you can still indicate you'll only be accepting a refund once it's assessed.

        2. 12-24 months : you're still covered by ACL (section 54). S54 stipulates the product should be fit for purpose for an appropriate period time given the product category and purchase price. For a $500 handset that's usually 2 years, for expensive TV's its usually 3 years (another reason why extended warranties are a waste of money). Again you are entitled to one of the three options above.

If the LG phone (or any item for that matter) is Australian stock, a remedy can be enforced from either the retailer or the manufacturer/distributor. If it is a grey import, you can only seek remedy from the retailer only.

  • Just a note, this model is unique in that it has nearly every single 4G Band that is being used around the world, and so will give you exceptional compatibility if you go overseas alot. The LG V20, like many other phones have many regional versions, and those selling at JB, will probably have less bands, and possibly not even dual sim capability like this one. Of course, you'll be paying for local warranty etc. which is a plus, but if I have to buy a phone purely off specs, this would be the one.

    • JB Hifi sells the same variant (H990DS), only difference is local warranty

Love my G4. Never had an issue with it. Shopping square, however, will not send you a replacement if your package gets lost in the mail and there's nothing you can do about it.

    • paypal dispute should sort them

      • Possibly. My purchase was through the website. They send they'd resend it, and never did, and stopped responding to emails. People complain about gearbest, but gb have always responded to my emails.

        • Similar story with me for Shopping square. Had an issue with a Galaxy S7. Sent the phone back then they stopped responding. In the end had to go through Paypal dispute.

And I've had my G4 for 16 months and no issues either.

      • Definitely it does.

    • +2

You won't be happy when your G4 bootloops, as mine did 13 months in just after warranty expired. Just a matter of time. Never LG again.

      • +1

Maybe, but this issue doesn't affect every single G4. Possibly a bad batch or two? Almost every single phone I've ever had has had similar issues, including a pre smartphone era LG. Swore off LG for ages, but I'm so happy with my current LG and have been for over a year now.

        • +3

It affects a very large number of G4s and V10s…the G5 seems to be by and large OK for boot looping, but build quality is questionable…and the V20 seems to have the camera glass prone to breakage…

        • @twister292: I read that the camera glass is an extremely small number so not a prob at all.
Some photos clearly show the camera has Ben hit with a point, not a random break at all.

  • People stop talking about outdated G4.

    • +6

Stop warning people that they are likely to get screwed? No You should stop rewarding companies who've burnt many MANY customers with your service. LG could have handled things better and fixed their problem in a more timely fashion rather than let the same issue affect multiple phones to different degrees. But they did not. And as a result people are right not to trust them.

Also the G4 is not a 10 year old phone. The model was widely released June 2015. 19 months may be ancient to you but there are still people using them.

      • +1

Still using mine, hope we get Nougat soon or I'll use it as a brick to injure someone lol.

        • +1

I don't want Nougat. Every "upgrade" of Android has taken away something I rely on and added crap that either doesn't work or I couldn't care less about. When my G4 was replaced the second time I couldn't run as many apps without doing dodgey stuff to split SD storage into native and portable. No way am I encrypting my gallery photos such that I lose them if the phone dies…especially as it is only a matter of time with the G4. Like the camera but overall this phone has been a pain in the behind.

          @syousef:

I genuinely dont think android has been good since v4.3

          Note I haven't used v6+ and probably don't know what I'm talking about ;)

It's the lock screen that annoys me the most. That got ruined in v4.4. It used to work beautifully: press an app icon and drag and the phone would unlock and the app would open. Now, all sorts of weird crap happens with sliding boxes & lock symbols that dont actually do anything, I think it's related to some nonsense attempt to make notifications more 'in your face'. Worse yet if you've flashed a v5 google rom and are forced to have right swipe open calls and left swipe open contacts making upward swipes (intended to unlock your phone) an exercise in failure far too often.

          @justtoreply:

I could almost live with 5. 6 is awful. You can only move apps to an encrypted SD card. On some phones you can divide your SD card into 2 sections and encrypt just one. On other phones you have to do that through adb and hope things don't break. If you encrypt your whole SD card and your phone dies, you lose your photos and videos.

Yes having to swipe more than once instead of just touch an answer button annoys me too.

Another Bootloop victim here. My G4 died at six month but now it's fixed and still using it. I'll be staying away from LG phones in the near future. Possible alternatives include Mate 9 and Axon 7.

  • There are reports of boatload on v20 so be careful

I suggest Blackberry dtek60 amazing Phone similar price and specs

There are reports of a boat being loaded on a v20?!?!?
