  • Ugh, just got some amplifiers from GearBest. Too slow EB!

  • I need to extend the wifi signal from one end of the house to the other.. there is probably 15-20m of distance.. Is this product the right thing to get?.. does it need to be plugged into the router or the device/area it needs to extend to? What other products are out there that would be needed for my situation? Sorry for the noob questions. thanks for your help :-)

Ideally you want to run a cat6 cable from one end of the house from the other, but that is often not possible. The next best alternative is ethernet over powerline, and deals are posted regularly.

If you go the wifi repeater approach expect your performance to drop in half as the repeater will use the same frequency to resend the data.

15-20m is not that far so you might find placing your router on top of a bookshelf or buying a modem / wireless access point with AC and connecting it to the modem might solve the problem.

      • As it is cable internet.. it's connected directly to my computer from the wall and is limited by how long the cable is.. so is only placed on my desk and no higher.

Can any of the options you mentioned be done with cable internet? Sorry if this sounds really stupid :-)

        • +2

Your cable internet still runs through a modem. Best options are as said running cat cable or EoP. With the EoP you plug a Ethernet cable into one of them, plug into PowerPoint, with the 2nd EoP yoi plug into the other location and either connect other device with Ethernet or attach another router as a access point (some EoP do have wifi built in though so a access point won't be needed). Another option is to be a better modem/router, with this you will put your current modem on bridge mode and connect your new high garde router as your wifi access point. Hope that makes sense

I suggest posting your question on the Whirlpool Networking Forum. Plenty of helpful people to walk you through the options.

      Ditto

Does your router have external antennae?

      http://www.instructables.com/id/WIFI-Antenna-Hack!/?ALLSTEPS

      • Nope, it's a Netgear Bigpond Ultimate Home modem

        • +2

Looks like the modem wireless performance is poor. The good news is that it should have 4 ports at the back and you can connect a wireless router to one of the four ports.

Unfortunately, according to the Xiaomi store on Aliexpress, the Xiaomi Mi WiFi 300Mbps Amplifier 2 is "Only compatible with Xiaomi router / xiaomi router mini at present." The Netgear EX6100 could be a solution. It is priced over $100 though, and would likely need to be connected to the existing modem via a LAN cable.

Marketing material provided by Xiaomi shows the Amplifier 2 being officially compatible with any router. The original adapter was unofficially supported by 3rd party routers.

Yes Clear, you are right. It appears Xiaomi's Official Store information is wrong. Instructions on how to do this are here. Therefore there is the potential for kimba88 to daisy chain these extenders to reach the most distant part of the house. This would be far cheaper than any other solution I can think of.

@oztonyau: That'd be because Xiaomi does not have an official Xiaomi store on Aliexpress. I'd be curious to see if one Amplifier would do the job for kimba.

Make sure you also grab the tempered glass screen protector for the Mi5s… it doesn't have any Gorilla Glass on it.

    • wow…

for a flagship that is poor. Even cheaper phones have gorilla.

Bought a USB charger at the end of Nov. it's been over a month and I haven't received it. Tracking says it's still in China.

Email support but I still haven't heard back! What's the go??

    • +1

Due to the Christmas period the carriers and processing centres have delays due to extra packages. It's still within the 30 business day window so it shouldn't be too far away. Happy to check on it if you PM me your order number.

      • Why put 2 xiaomi wifi only got one price off?

        • Make separate orders.

    • Yeap, me too. I bought usb charger and it's still not arrived yet. Tracking says 5/12/16 and it's still in China.

On another notes, I bought battery charger from tmart almost at the same time, it arrived mid December and the tracking was perfect (same tracking url 17track.net).

      • Christmas is the reason delay and even then it can take up to 30 business days.

    • +1

      Most likely holiday delay.

  • bought USB charger beginning of Oct. Never got it. for whatever reason, parcel redirected to the seller in the middle of shipping….
Customer service is hopeless and went through Clear to help me. Finally got answer from the customer service saying "we will give you refund once the returned parcel reached us" What the… now I'm waiting for refund…may take couple of months

    • I'll get that refund processed for you.

    • You will be receiving a refund from GeekBuying soon. Usually within 48 hours.

  • I would like to know if it's better to put the amplifier in the room of the device receiving the connection, or in the room in between that room and the router's room?

    • The best place is to put it between your router and where the coverage starts to drop.

  • I ordered a Mi 5S from geekbuying at the start of November and I paid for tracked shipping. I received a shipping number a week and a half later that still doesn't have any tracking information available when its searched for…

I tried contacting the tracking support and was told I would get a refund but now I've been given the runaround saying they need 'information from the shipping company'

Its been 48 days (35 business days) since I received the shipping notification and still no sign of my phone

my order number is #3837163, could I get a resolution over this?

    • Holiday period does cause delays. I'll look into it.

      • That would be great, its 2 months since purchase date now, getting a little worried I wont ever see my phone :(
        Cheers.

      • So, I still haven’t received my phone.

        Support emails have gone from
‘If you find the track information still don't work until 30th December, we can refund to you’

        To
‘if you still haven't got it after 10th Feb. we can full refund to you’

        And now
‘We are sorry for the inconvenience, our shipping company have no answer for it, if you still haven't got it until 20th Feb. we will full refund to you’

What type of customer service is this!? Two weeks ago I still had hope that my phone would arrive, now I don’t even think I’ll get a refund!

        • I will message them and ensure you're refunded.
