This is called getting one's toe in the door ;)

Good budget notebook for a student at least.

    • thought i should get the post in quick ;)

the $399 + shipping machine is good value - i bought one recently for a friend and only negs are a slightly flimsy screen surround, the machine's quite chunky, and it's only got 2 USB ports

    • Thanks for saving me the trouble of having to read through the specs. Def. not for me.

  • +2

I believe the model number is EME527-332G25MI cheapest price on staticice is $549 + Postage.

Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Dont buy from this guys. I have recently bought from them. The item I received had issue. They blamed manufacture. When I asked for refund they just ignored and no more reply.

Did you email the rep on here? He is your best contact if customer service does not help, and will get it sorted, if its a genuine problem… [email protected]

      • email sent. will see what happens. Thanks anyway.

i've got stuff off cotd a few times now and everything has been in pretty good condition when i've got it… and the one time i've had to deal with their customer service they were really good…

      • +2

I agree, but some of their stuff by nature is worthless and sometimes I feel like their description is misleading. But overall a good place to buy cheap if you know what are you doing.

      • Same here

  • Whats the model number for Acer 15.6" eMachine ?

  • Thanks for posting conrad. U posted before I asked.

shyza! I bought the princess table an hour ago. I'm worried the box might be damaged as usual.
    It's a prezzie

    • If you happen to get it undamaged, then it's good deal. For me I'd prefer a retailer with walk in customer service now.

  • Anyone know of the Power consumption of the $399 unit? I need something that will run my security system that will be the cheapest.

  • No LED backlit?

  • Terrible, terrible, terrible machine. my colleague has owned his for 3 weeks and the tracking pad no longer works. Build quality is also poor…. don't bother!

  • Any thoughts on the other two laptops? The Lenovo looks decent, although it has onboard graphics (which I don't mind personally).

Why wud anyone want a Celeron??

    • For office/web use, i think its fine.

  • +1

    go the i5

    • +2

doesnt everybody have a friend that has one and it has "insert problem" ?

  • I prefer the Lenovo personally, better specs but at a much higher price. Build quality on Lenovo is supposed to be good too. Acer don't seem to have a very good rep but to be fair I've never owned one.

    • so how have you formed your opinion?

      • lenovos build quality is great have a thinkpad was ibm when i bought in 2003 and it is still going strong

        • Yea that was before IBM was taken over by Lenovo in 2005.

Since then, the quality of Thinkpads have dropped. They don't make em' like they used to.
Build quality wise they are still above average, but not quite the same in the good old days.

  • I'd personally go for the Lenovo. I had a Thinkpad in the early 2000s and the build quality was superb. Thing was practically indestructible. Plus the specs are much much better for a full-fledged laptop. The Acer is cheap, but is already obsolete hardware

  • much prefer the ati hd5470 on the acer than the intel gma on the lenovo

  • Can anyone tell me if the Lenovo has hdmi? I can't read it anywhere, but maybe it's there… if it is can someone point it out to me please? Also, how good is the intel GMA? Can you play games on it? I'm a recovering games addict, and I'd be annoyed if it can't handle the graphics on games I uh..plan to play in moderation in the future.. =) I already have a laptop but I'm looking to replace my dinosaur relic pc with another laptop that stays put and is permanently connected to my printer/network.. also would love if it has hdmi as my sony media player is the closest thing to garbage I've ever received. Thanks in advanced!

    • +1

i would be surprised if it didn't have HDMI.. but from this https://www.techsmart.net.au/Product/Product.asp?Notebook=N/… it looks like it does

also, intel gma = fail for graphics.. u'd be better off with the ati hd 5470.. but even that is like low end for graphics

      • Thanks, guess this is no go for me then. I like the i5 processor though… I'm in no hurry anyway.. Dinosaur relic's still going strong despite being slow as a tortoise, and I do have a decent 1yr old Samsung laptop that I'm glued to 12hr/day.

  • Why do not go for Lenovo G560 for $698. It got HDMI.
