That $65k requirement is weird. You can get a $400+k loan with that sort of income.

    • +6

A loan for a house maybe but not unsecured credit

  • +4

This has been around for ages with the same inclusions… not really a good deal compared to other credit card offers on www.finder.com.au - there are a few with $0 for first year and a bonus sum of points.

Everybody have different requirements, wants, and needs, better to have as many choice as possible.

  • Agree with the 65k requirement.

Someone on $50k single with no kids, has way more disposable income than a sole income earner on 65k with 2 kids.

    • Please note this is household gross pre-tax annual income.

I'll bite again when they make this 100,000+ points like they have in the past (I think I got 110,000 with referral).

Also, I think you can only get the bonus points if you haven't had an Amex Velocity in the past year if my memory serves me correctly.

    • 110,000 - Those were the days :)

    • Was that 100k member points or velocity points? The Amex Explorer has 100k, 110k with referral which equates to 83k VFF.

      • Velocity points. It was an Amex Velocity card. Still haven't used those points… saving them up for a trip to Europe.

    • Credit is slowly but surely becoming more expensive. I don't see these free points becoming more common in the future, i see them become less common.

The way airlines make money is by credit card companies basically paying the airline a higher $/point rate than you get it at.

When the spread of credit becomes greater i.e the buy/sell profit credit card companies make becomes greater, they will naturally not need these incentives to compete for customers' credit.

  • Virgin Australia Domestic Reward Chart -> Is this one-way? And does it mean the points + tax required for a flight or the points you earn?

Destination Guide -> Does this work for anyone? I click on a start City but it won't let me select a destination.

    • +1

      the flight is a return

    • +1

For destination guide, you need to click on the city of Departure. Say for example if you select Perth, it will show you all the cities you can travel to, from Perth.

How do people afford all these credit hits on their file all the time
I swear this place must have people earning 300k

    Starting to turn into Whirlpool

On the Internet nobody knows you're a broke dog.

      • haha too true

  • It says promotion only available if you haven't had an Amex in the last 18 months. Does anyone know if they check? I'm up for a new card soon and prefer velocity points then Qantas so this is ideal for me, the last Amex I had was about 12 months ago..

    • +1

Did you have an Amex issued card? If yes, which one?

      • Yup, Amex Velocity Platinum - same as this post. Cheers!

        • +2

Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any other Consumer Credit Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 18 month period are ineligible for this offer. Better wait at least 18 months, before applying, since you had the same card you want to apply for, if you have held a card with a different reward program, then maybe (I have seen people getting sign up points without waiting), but when it is the same reward program, there is almost no chance, and it is not a risk worth taking.

        • @Rashed: thanks for the heads up! Will wait the 18 months before applying again :)
