AT&T branded but unlocked BlackBerry Priv - out they go! Up until recently the AT&T branded Privs were a dead end for anyone not on AT&T as software updates would only come OTA via AT&T. So no SIM = no updates. Updates to unlocked AT&T Privs now come directly from BlackBerry. As it's from the USA it's a variant of the ST100-1 which means it doesn't have band 28 but it does have wireless charging, plus a little AT&T logo on the back. When you power it up the first time it'll be on Android 5 but it will check for and find the update to Android 6 (Marshmallow). While waiting for that to happen, you'll see a few AT&T apps baked in which can't be removed (but can be disabled so they disappear from the launcher). The magic happens when the updated OS installs and those AT&T apps get wiped during the update.

How do I know this? I made the leap a couple of Fridays ago. Ordered on Friday night, phone arrived at DHL in Port Melbourne on the following Monday, drivers were apparently flat out and I got the phone on the Tuesday. Software updates were seamless. I haven't noticed the missing band 28 yet. This is a lot of phone for just over $AUS460 shipped. For giggles I got the sync dock for an extra $USD10.00 so it looks trick on my desk at work. I know one of my OzB lurking colleagues (we'll call him Nugget Party) is secretly envious….!

BH also have the unbranded US Priv for $349.00

Bought one a few months back from ozb deals. It doesn't have ota update on min. (Some at&t handset can not receive OTA).

Went onto blackberry support and done my manual update.

Best Android phone out there with a real keyboard. The thing is actually pretty slim without a case.

PS. On have bb-ed my android tablet with their launcher (and other apps, such as BB hub) via Google store.

    • I have At&t Priv. Able to update OTA since 2-3 months ago.

    Link to dock?

Would seriously consider this if it were not for the 2MP front cam ^^

  • The unbranded ones were $299 for about 2 weeks around Black Friday.

Nice phone, but given that blackberry has now officially stopped doing hardware I'm not sure I'd be buying…

    • Would be more concerned if they stop doing software all together.

    • Yeah, I dithered around and missed that one. The AT&T one turns out to be the same after it updates so it's all good.

I am not worried about them no longer producing hardware and I imagine TCL will build them to BlackBerry requirements like they have for the dtek50 and 60. So long as they keep getting updates out promptly!

      • A Priv 2 would be sweet!

        • I saw spy shots of the dtek70, which could have been a priv2 but it's more like the Passport with a fixed keyboard, not a slider like the PRIV. Maybe dtek80?

        • Interesting! I personally would have preferred that they had followed the same design of the passport (the 1:1 craziness :P ).
Also, I doubt TCL is capable of making a worthy Priv 2.

Any idea how long these deal is going for? Keen but money slim…

    • Limited stock at that price according to the website.

    • Don't know - and there's no indication of stock levels on the BH website other than 'low stocks' or whatever it says.
