FWIW I picked up a $20 (now at $29 online) stick blender from Target and couldn't be happier with it. Has exactly the same accessories as this Braun one, except maybe not the large blender bowl. Is 400w instead of 750w but it doesn't matter for what I use it for: sauces, soups, mixing, blending, pastes, smoothies, etc. Just wanted to give a shout out to this cheaper option for people.

I must say, I always thought the same till I got the Electrolux one on clearance, makes things this super smooth valvety texture which is devine.
Was it much more expensive?
Lol $99 but its a brick, so huge and powerful.
@Slippery Fish:
Could you please share your trick?@Averell: my trick to what?
@Slippery Fish:
Sorry, mis-read "brick" with "trick"
So what did you mean in "brick" ? Is it bad or good? Could you please send me the link to that Electrolux one? As I'm in need of a blender.
Thanks.@Averell: it was a Harvey Norman clearance, by brick I mean its big and solid as hell.
Anyone know how this one compares to Bamix?
The Bamix are really well made and may last 20 years plus. They are good for some jobs but reportedly very slow at smoothing big pots of soup. I think this comes down to the shape of the blade guard. Some designs create more of a vortex and work faster. But the Bamix can run continuously without overheating and that is likely why most of these stick blenders fail. That and the removable shaft being a weak spot - the nylon drive ofter stripping. The Bamix is not removable so harder to wash but perhaps more reliable. Owners of Bamix generally love them but they fare less well in comparative reviews.
Thanks! :) Guess I'll give the Braun a go for this price.
It seems that this one also doesn't grind nuts :(
It seems Bamix Wet/Dry Processor is able to grind nuts (but don't quote me on it). It's available as a bonus if you buy the Bamix Mono here http://www.kitchenwarehouse.com.au/Bamix-Mono-Blender-140W-C… or you can purchase it separately (but I think it's only compatible with Bamix Stick Blender).
It says $88, not $81
