  • ETA Delivery: 28/12/16

That's the dispatch date I think, not delivery.

    • +2

No, that's the ETA date when PCCG expects to receive stock into their warehouse, otherwise it's currently not in stock. It's got nothing to do with any dispatch or delivery date.

      • Yeah.

      • It said dispatch date on the website. No idea why you think that means at the warehouse.

        • +1

No where does it say dispatch date.

Point over the ETA: 28/12/16 that's in blue and situated right under the Add to Cart button, and it says this "This item is expected to arrive into our warehouse around 28/12/16". That means when PCCG is expecting to receive more stock into their warehouse since it's currently out of stock but more stock has been ordered in.

  • Does anyone know when's a good time to buy your pc parts? I'm planning on building my first pc but not sure if Christmas/Boxing day sales exist or if I should just buy them when I can afford them?

    • +1

The only good time to buy parts is there is going to be a launch of the Next Gen Tech.

For example the release of nvidia 1080 (the newest flagship model) has impacted 980 (the old flagship model) by around $300-500.

If u can live by older model, U will save heaps!

And also, it depends on what is your use of the computer is for?

      • Gaming mostly, nothing to high end just trying to play games at 1080p with medium settings. Just sick of playing things on a laptop mainly. I might as well buy some parts now then, thanks for the help.

        • If that is all you want I would buy a i5 4gen with an rx 460 or gtx 1050 (ti). That should be plenty. what's your budget?

        • Id honestly wait tbh, youre currently in mid cycle. From the news AMD has some big things planned with both Ryzen and Vega so thats definitely going to impact the market

        • @GossipGoat: he could be waiting 6 months though.

I am looking forward to some decent competition from AMD however.

        • @misu p:
Budget is around the $1000 mark, here's my current build if you wouldn't mind taking a look and letting me know if I can improve it. I asked for help on the forums and they absolutely ripped me to shreds last time. https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/hmXqr7

        • @Ryland04: I'd say just go for it TBH. See if there are any sales during boxing day, if not, just go for it. There are going to be some big hardware (cpu and high end gpu's) releases in the next 1-6 months, but those shouldn't impact the parts you are buying a lot. Without going into it too much, IMO these are mostly going to impact the very high end hardware.

BTW, I'd consider going for the rx 480 and pairing it with a freesync monitor(which costs next to nothing extra) because it's going to make game play feel a lot smoother. I'm not saying you should, but it's definitely worth looking into if you haven't done so.

        • @Ryland04: for 1000 aud you will be playing everything on ultra at 1080p. I am sure somebody will come with a very specific thing that you cannot but that will be a very specific example.

If you want to save more get a 1060 3gb version. The 6gb version is ~ 20% more expensive and it only offers less than 10% (between 5 andf 10% according to nvidia) more speed.

If you want to save even more be flexible. Do not search for a i5-6500 if you get a good price get an i5-6600 or i5-6400 or the k versions get those. The rx 480 8gb is the same as the 1060 6gb, and the rx470 is kind of the same as the 1060 3gb.

As long as you get any 1060 3/6bg, rx 470 4/8gb, rx 480 4/8gb you are good to go at 1080p.

It is a good balanced PC you have chosen btw, good job.

If you want to wait for ryzen go for it, but you will always find a reason to wait, new CPU from AMD, new one from Intel, new GPU from Nvidia, new one from AMD and so on.

        • @Hunga: yeah rx 480 is popping up everywhere for budget builds but I've always heard Nvidia were the better brand but I'll definitely look into that and the freesync monitor. Thanks for the tip!

        • @misu p: I'll be honest the different version of the CPUs and graphics cards confuse the hell out of me but I am starting to get the hang of it. Might look into those rx 480s and see if I can get a better deal than the 1060. Thanks for taking to the time to help me out, now I just have the actual Build to worry about.

        • @Ryland04: I recently did the same thing, choose components, built a PC. All my information will probably be obsolete in a couple of months :) so I am happy to share. Freesync is a lot cheaper than gsync but it depends a lot on the monitor and games you play. For example with a gtx 1060 3gb in all the games I play I get more than 60 fps. My 1080p monitor can only render 60 fps so… I actually do not care about g/free sync.

What I did want to get was an AMD GPU but I could not justify paying more for something that was worse than the 1060 I got. I know AMD people will jump up now but… I paid 20% less for a 1060 3gb compared to a rx 480 that with the latest drivers barely equals it.

Anyway, be flexible and have fun :), building a PC is quite entertaining. Now I went to the dark side where next on the shopping list are cables to match the color scheme I have.

        • @misu p: Yeah I ended up having a look at the g sync monitors and I think they're a bit out of my price range, 60fps on games is more than enough for me too. I'm coming from trying to game on my laptop so I'm sure I'll be more than happy with this Build for now. Might upgrade once Star Citizen comes out though.

Hopefully the Build runs smoothly though and all the parts work but I'm pretty excited for cable management which is weird, a bit OCD like that. There's some sick looking cases out there with the led strips, not there yet but I'll probably be joining you in the dark side too.

        • Once you play on 144 or 165 hz, you won't go back. People here don't know what they are missing. Yes, G-Sync is more expensive, but it's absolutely amazing. High hz vs 60hz is like night and day.

        • @cyrax83: yeah :) that is one of the reason why I do not want to try anything at more than 60hz or any resolutions bigger than 1080p.

        • @Ryland04: I don't think some people here really fully appreciate how great variable refresh rate monitors are (freesync/gsync). There are inherent issues when you run without it (tearing, stuttering and possibly latency), all of which contributes to the perceived smoothness and really doesn't have a whole lot to do with the FPS you are running at.

Here's a backstory as to why I'm an advocate for g-sync/freesync. I'm running a freesync monitor atm (it was basically free/didn't add much cost i upgraded my monitor to 144hz), I "upgraded" from a 290 to a gtx 1070 expecting top notch experience at 1080p. I was expecting high fps at 1080p would provide a smooth experience because on paper, it was a very significant upgrade. But I was kinda disappointed, frame dips even from 80 to 60 were very noticeable, tearing/stuttering even at high fps were noticeable too. All of which, weren't really there running between 40-60fps with the 290. I kinda miss having variable sync, I'll definitely consider getting either a g-sync monitor or going with an AMD equivalent to the 1070 in the coming months

It's definitely not for everyone though, you are going to need to do a bit of tinkering with gsync/freesync to get it working initially. This is probably going a bit deeper than you anticipated, so maybe just stick to your current plans because any of this is a significant upgrade to what you're playing with on your laptop ATM. But basically the main reason why I suggested that you get freesync is because of your limited budget. Often a g-sync equivalent monitor costs an extra 150-300.

        • @Hunga: well I appreciate the help nonetheless, if I can afford it, hopefully they will have Christmas sales I'll definitely look into getting one.

  • I don't want to spend money on this to find out that i have to upgrade my GTX970s to 1080s…:(

    • Believe me you need I have same problem

    • You will have to. Probably dual 1080

      • I do just fine with this resolution with an RX 480.

    • Yes, you will need an upgrade. I bought one at launch but returned it because my 980ti was only handling it around 45-65fps. The monitor can go to 100Hz. a 1080 will def do the trick.

  • How long until HDR monitors are available? Seems like now is a bad time to be paying this much for a monitor without it.

    • HDR10 and Dolby Vision are for films. Is there even a HDR standard for computer video?

      • -1

yes see ps4 pro it has HDR right now

        • No. PS4 uses HDR10. No computer user, sitting 30cm from LCD screen will tolerate 800-1000 nits that's optimum for HDR10 or Dolby Vision.

        • @AlexF: nubcakes downvoting lel …

    • There's an LG 32" 4K monitor with HDR coming out next year

      • Only costs an arm. GG sync version only costs 2 legs an arm and half of your head.

        • Probably won't even be very good. IPS = shitty contrast = meh 'HDR'.

Isn't a Predator X34P coming out very soon with support for Display Port 1.3 and default reffresh rate of 100Hz rather then overclocking this to 100 Hz ? Are all the QC issues fixed with the latest batches of X34 like backlight bleed etc?

    • +2

Yeh, it is said that the X34P will be released in 2017, not sure when though. PC Case Gear is probably trying to unload their X34 stock before they drop they have to drop its price once the newer X34P models come out.

      • Once CES 2017 (https://www.ces.tech/about-us) arrives in a couple of weeks we should see a lot more solid release dates on new technology availability dates

        • I think the only problem is once the newer model hits, for the first few months, the price will stay at 1299 USD or a bit more. Converting to AUD this will mean about A$1800 to A$1900 price tag which is too much IMHO :(. Might as well grab this monitor now then.

        • @Babe:

Not only that but you will have the usual QC issues with the first generation of stock

        • @motion2082: Yep I pulled the trigger. Funnily enough it is now showing to me that the Monitor has shipped and also I got an email form PC Case Gear saying that it has shipped! And I was not expecting it till next week !

        • @Babe: Mine arrives tomorrow so … so much for waiting until the 28th!

    • The X34P was meant to be coming out "soon" in July.

  • Ordered but it arrived on 22Nd damaged during shipping. PCCG were AWESOME and I've already shipped the damaged monitor back using their shipping.

At this rate I may get it before NYE still :)
