JB has it for $594.00, including a subwoofer.

But good luck with return if something go wrong…around $50 out of the window just for postage and the hassel

    • +1

Yeah that includes an amp too!!

Fully separate STR-Series Receiver (with digital in / out) 2 x HDMI and a POWERED Sub.

Can haggle down to $500. I got the same system.

What do you mean return shipping?? It can be picked up there are heaps of stores everywhere.

Actually it's now down to $448!!!

      http://www.jbhifi.com.au/home-theatre/sony/800-watt-5-1-chan…

Sounds — OK for 5.1 and powered sub.

You can even use as PC speakers.

    • +1

Not the same item at all. The speakers in this set would be much better than the satellites/sub in the other set. This is good for those who want to upgrade their speakers I believe.

  • +1

Sigh… Can do free shipping for 20kg+ item but then charged $13.99 for 500g item ỔöỔ
    OUCH

it's outta stock - musta been the right price for others!

      • +1

Not out of stock for me ?

  • +1

Unless I'm missing something, that's an exceptional deal.

Was recently shopping for speakers and couldn't get anywhere near this bargain from the stores.

  • +1

wow $700 off RRP, is this a too good to be true thing?
Dam being at work i have no time to research the system. Better be in stock by the time i get home!

  • +1

Looks tempting but not a single review on Google. I wonder if this is marketing under different model numbers outside of AUS.

    • +9

been a long time reader of the newsletter at http://www.eastwoodhifi.com.au/index.htm (the guys who writes it is Steve, def knows his stuff)

just sent him an email bout these - his response:

"As the main speakers only have a 4” woofer, I’m not sure I’d run them with anything greater than a 20 Watt amplifier (they quote 120 Watt peak). You also need a subwoofer as they wouldn’t be able to operate without one. Cheap though!"

if you're an audiophile you'll love his newsletter. plus often lists some pretty good specials on the website.

      • +1

Wow…quick response, nice to know his comment

do you need a amp to make these speakers work? Can i plug a optical cable straight into this puppy and im away?

    cheers

    • +1

      It'll require an amp.

  • +1

Still got my $20 voucher, so very tempting. If only I had space for them.

  • +1

just bought some, now to find a amp. any ideas? i need one with optical in

actually is hdmi or optical better for sound?

    • +1

HDMI - although for many things (e.g. low bandwidth sources) you'd probably struggle to hear any difference.

    • +1

HDMI is the only way that you can listen to high-def audio formats (TruHD, HDMA, and PCM 5.1/7.1) contained on blu-ray discs. Optical/coax don't have enough bandwidth I believe.

And if you have some decent gear, there is definitely a discernible difference.

    • +1

      Check my post above…

Buy that set even if you don't need the little speakers you get a powered sub and an amp with HDMI in for peanuts.

Sell the worse speakers off or something.

    • +1

He RHYs, noticed your question regarding an AMP…… Onkyo have just released the SR-TX 608 which is full 3d compatible 5 hdmi and some wicked other features (I think 175 Watts per channel and it's a 7.2 system. I bought one in Brisbane and it is brilliant. JB have them advertised for $1300 roughly but everyone I spoke to i.e Hardly Normal and JB will sell them for $900.00…. These speakers which I also bought will be good in the short term however it's a serious amp and will need some investment in some top end gear for you to get the full sound out of it……

cant use the coupon for free shipping?
Keeps coming up with: *Coupon codes can not be used in conjunction with on-going promotions

    • +1

I got that too. I might sign in and move further into the checkout process and see what happens. still, $25 shipping isn't too bad.

      • +1

ok i logged in, submitted the coupon, it gave that error, i clicked 'checkout' or whatever it is, then the back button on my browser, then it listed shipping as free, so i continued on and got it for $299 including shipping.

      • +1

        Ok thanks worked

  • -2

    buy a yamaha RX-V663 amp

    • +4

Did you apply the coupon code as instructed?

    • +6

I hate when people don't follow instructions then whine that other people have gotten it wrong.

  • +1

The coupon code for free shipping worked for me.

After putting coupon code, it said that coupons cannot be applied to promotional products. After closing the pop-up the shipping handling changed from $25 to free. So it works I presume.

  • +2

Rated sensitivity is only 85db/w. Suspicious for low quality drivers.

Plus the two surrounds and centre channel go for 70usd only on amazon, suggesting the sony australia rrp is LOL.

Difficult to say whether 300 is a good price

  • -1

2 men in a white van quality?
    Its a S'h'ONY -

For the price its likely good value.

  • +1

Will not have high hope in sony speakers….

Get yourself a set of JAMO…you wont have time for regret

  • +1

    So… good or not?

  • +1

$280 delivered if you still have the $20 voucher from the facebook promo.

  • +1

so just how good are those speakers? for movies+ music etc

  • +1

does anybody know if i can attach my media player and then play the sound throgh this somehow? Do you know of any other home theatres which would do that?

    • +1

You would need an amp/preamp to power the speakers. Most preamps these days will have HDMI in which you can output your media pc or whatever media box you have.

      • +1

If you have optical out you can get a receiver and play to these speakers that would be the best way.

        I think people are confused…

YOU NEED AN AMPLIFIER/RECEIVER to actually be able to USE these speakers.

        NO AMP - NO SOUND.

  • +1

i tried last night for ages and also this morning, cant get the free shipping.
might just be certain states? it's always $25 to SA no matter how many times i add the coupon and hit back or delete the item, re-add and then add the coupon.
oh well, prob just go to JB and get some speakers

    • +1

worked for me this morning to SA….add the code, then go to checkout……

      • +1

thanks for the reply andy, gave it another go, still no luck.
have tried on 2 comps (pc and a mac) same issue.
        giving up.

        • +1

The only thing I can think is that you maybe have the code wrong? I don't get why it wouldn't work for you and you alone

worked for me this morning as a trial run

          • +1

            @Wampus: using code: 54D458

            • +1

@emerson: when I put in the code…a script popped up saying not valid, or something similar….I just clicked ok and went ahead and at checkout, shipping was $0

  • +1

    $288 on http://www.sonyclearance.com.au/product.php
not saying it's a better deal than this,
just wondering maybe the sales price maybe more common than we thought

    • +2

I guess this posting says so much about the almighty power of OzBargain. People place utmost trust in it being a bargain without shopping around and end up purchasing something out of impulse without having any need for the item (or knowing how it works - in this case with the speakers not coming bundled with an amp).

      • +1

        Absolutely stunning, eh :-D

Reading this, I honestly can't believe that people are considering buying speakers, and can't work that they still need an amplifier!

Speakers don't make any sound without an amplifier to drive them. There are self-powered speakers around the place (eg: computer speakers) but it's pretty rare for audio speakers to include an integrated amp.

        • I bought them to replace the satellites in my HT setup. Ok so I know these aint top shelf speakers but for $280?? Its great. Im hooking them up to my Pioneer VSX1019. And yes I have a sub :)

Don't assume that everybody here has no idea. It's just a few people.

  • -1

    nice speakers, but rather small

would much rather get the sony muteki system for only $982 - usually $1500

    http://www.jbhifi.com.au/home-theatre/sony/1695-watt-7-2-cha…

    • +3

No offence, but those muteki speakers are all show. If you're willing to have a blaring concert in your room then by all means, go for them. However, it lacks clarity when you've got the volume set to a "normal" level. The speakers don't produce clean trebble since they've got horn tweeters. Also, the wiring is pretty shoddy and don't get me started with the amp.

If you're up for a decent setup, start with a good amplifier with plenty of features.

      Just my 2 cents.

      • eventually it boils down to the user. to some its fine, to others its rubbish. for the 'average/beginner' home theater owner, they are more than enough.

the source is often more important for sound quality. eg: if you have a sony ps3 blu ray with hdmi and optical connections with thick cabling, the sound will be impressive. but if your using a dvd player with rca's, the sound will be very dull in comparison !

  • +1

If those speakers are too small you should get 5 x Krix Epicentrix and totally blow the house down!

speakers cheaper as per link. $269 + 25 shipping.

  • +1

I went to the sony clearance centre at the DFO AT BRISBANE Airport today (link above) to check out these speakers and they are CRAP. They are tiny…..and the sony specialist said that you need the subwoofer to cover the lower frequency for these to work….add $199

I'm totally dissatisfied with shoppingsquare.com.au as I made a number of requests for assistance over the last four days and got no response. I then asked them to cancel my order yesterday and they responded today that the item was being dispatched today and there was nothing I could do about it. Yes there is….Small claims tribunal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please think very carefully before wasting your cash on these. They are tiny, and you will need a subwoofer for these which at best costs $199 for all ranges to be covered. Wow sight and Sound have the set with a subwoofer for $499 at the moment.

Save your pennies for something better…… These are seriously tiny speakers, shit inputs and finish……. I'm a fool for not researching before I wasted $330 for them

    • +1

I’m totally dissatisfied with shoppingsquare.com.au as I made a number of requests for assistance over the last four days and got no response…and there was nothing I could do about it.

Been warned you guys all along…
It's just beginning of the chapter…wait till the products faulty/warranty => more headache for you. :)
      Good luck with your case.

  • Tbh, unless you are buying large speakers with at least 8" woofers, you are going to need/want a dedicated subwoofer anyway.

Did you really expect these to be anything but bargain speakers? I spent $360 just on my center speaker alone (KEF iQ2c), and even that is regarded as a budget-range speaker, and also quite smallish (13cm woofer).

If those Sony speakers aren't that great, then just use them as surround/presence speakers.

Mebbe you can return them for a refund minus a re-stocking fee?

    • Shoppingsquare have offered to refund the amount on the speakers minus a 10% restocking fee which is fair…..

      Rant Over

  • -1

You guys seriously thought that these front speakers (2 x 10cm woofers, and a tweeter) would replace the need for a subwoofer?

Ummmmmm riiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Sorry but there is a reason that some bundles have the sub. It's needed.

What they will do is give you better mid-range over using a sub with satellites only. That's why I bought them. My Sony 1000w sub shakes the seats so I'm happy, but the satellites were the weak spot. :)

  • Antman….. Ummmmm Riiiiight!!!!!!!

Read my posts …. Not a d#ck measuring contest here just stating the speakers are CRAP quality / finish and tiny in size but more importantly the poor customer service from shoppingsquare and request to cancel the order which has been ignored is my biggest gripe….

I went to the DFO Brisbane to buy the subwoofer RRP $299 down to $199 to match the system. Had a look at the speakers and they are minature, crap finish and confirmed my desire not to buy them…… I didn't buy the sub either…..

    Thanks for your input though….

    • Wow relax for a minute. Sheesh. Did I make any mention of the customer service aspect of your post? No. I merely made comment regarding the assertion that some people made that they are shocked they needed a sub too. Also I did NOT reply to your message at all. I made a general comment in the topic thread. Get your facts straight before going on a rant.

  • +1

    Apologies Antman,

Was furious and vented my anger over the keyboard

Just bought a sweet system from JB….Dali's to match my Onkyo 608B….Rant over!!! and Shoppingsquare have finally come to the party!!

    Life is good

    • No problem mate. Unsurprisingly I am jealous of the Dali's but it all comes down to budget (which I spent most of mine on upgrading the sub)

I hope you enjoy your setup. Should be good!
