Android 4.4.4 … really? Why would you buy a TV with such an out of date OS that even though there is a 3 year warranty on it, they can't be bothered to update the OS to ensure that security vulnerabilities are closed off?

    • At least it has online capabilities. For example:

You can install Kodi through the browser (install Firefox first maybe) then it opens up a world of media options if you have the know how.

      • Yes, I have Kodi on my Sony X8500, but surely the dual core A7 and RAM in this will not be able to take full advantage of HDR and 4K processing which Kodi would require for jitter free display.

Lol HDR and 4K on kodi

        • @KegofCanz: what's a good alternative to kodi? I have been using the stock player on my Sony whenever Kodi struggles.

        • You'll probably find it renders to a 1080-line framebuffer (or less!), and upconverts to 4K.

I have a "4K" android box that renders to 720p, but since it decodes and outputs 4K, it seems that nobody notices.

Because it is "easy to use and spectacular"

    • You really shouldn't be keeping all of your personal info, and other sensitive data, on your television.

  • Epic deal! Curious though, the TV is only 50hz, doesnt 4k require 60hz to actually be 4k?

    • Nope. 4K content is typically 24,25 or 30Hz. You only need 60Hz for American interlaced video.
However, I'm sure the specs are wrong, and it will take 1080p60.

Does it even have HDMI2.0 input? Probably not, so you are limited to 30Hz with 4K. Which is OK for movies.

  • DO NOT BUY
I have the HD version of the 55" TV
Rubbish picture, all 3 HDMI inputs have failed.
I've also had other poor models of Soniq TVs
Buy the Bauhn or alternative version, if you want cheap UHD TV

    • The fact that it's 4k will still suck plenty in.

These panels prove that 4k is a gimmick on panel tv.

      • "These panels prove that 4k is a gimmick on panel tv."

        What does that even mean?

What other sort of display technology should we be using? CRT would be great, but then we have the power consumption. OLED is getting there….but that is a panel.

Maybe you mean the geometry is wrong and we should be viewing our graphic media on perhaps, a pyramid shaped display?

PS This particular TV will obviously by substandard compared to even LG..

        • It means that LGs OLEDs would still look better than anything else, even if they were 1080p.

4k sells. The fact that people actually paid 5k+ for the first 60inch 4k LED/LCDs proves it. Then of course the cheap brands get their hands on 4k, then it proves my point. Resolution alone means bugger all, especially 1080p->4k on panel TV.

    • Why didn't you comment in the previous deal then?

You have the HD, thats a bit different from the UHD and this has mainly positive reviews on JB's site…

I've also had other poor models of Soniq TVs

Have you had this model or are you just making generalisations?

      • LOL. It's the same company
I've had their 32" & 42" - their USB ports are under powered to run HDMI display adaptors

        Rubbish TVs

        • Have you tried their recent televisions rather than just going off your old models?

Rubbish TVs, USB ports are under powered to run HDMI display adaptors

Interesting how there are so many positive reviews for these "rubbish TVs" on JB though. Maybe you should give them a second chance, all TV manufacturers started off with average quality and look where Samsung, Sony and LG are today…

        • @ShamelessBargains: The 55", which I bought 3 months ago, starting having faults within 6 weeks.
          More than a second chance

        • +1

@ShamelessBargains: The problem with reviews is that most people post there review straight away. Sometimes before they have turned it on, or even without actually buying one. Even if their TV dies a week after the review the vast majority could not be bothered correcting the record.

Aldi have 4k 55inch for $499 on sale Saturday. https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-17-…

    • Thats crazy, but for $499 I get the feeling fast moving video and such will be rubbish too, along with no features haha. But I could be wrong!

So why cant we have a Sony 55" UHD tv for only $499, what a day that would be! hahaha

        Soniq is worse

        • Yoyama is right. Soniq quality is shite.

Aldi and Hisense both offer much better alternatives.

  • Anyone known a cheap 4k tv (40" plus) with HDR for Santa's ps4 Pro ?
